Would anyone be interested in a AFF "Centurion Members" Dinner / Drinks night?

Are AFF Centurion Members keen for a Centurion Dinner / Drinks night?

Maybe we could have a platinum dinner on the table next to them!

Every bank hands out a platinum card to just about anybody these days, so the chances are high that there will be a platinum having dinner on a table next to us. It just shows how normal and down-to-earth we are - that we are prepared to eat near regular people. ;)

Hi,

I have only been a Centurion member since earlier this year - and whilst I "lurk" a lot on here, I don't post much.

However - if a meet was organised, and dates were "right" (oh, and if I was invited :cool:) - I would love to participate and meet up with others. Melbourne would suit me better, but could probably make Sydney as well.

Will be following this thread closely :):)

Cheers,

Brooke

Great! Looks like we could have a decent gathering here... hopefully we can get more centurion lurkers out of the woodwork to join in :)

If we were lucky they might throw us a few crumbs :p
Or we could throw them a few crumbs :!:

The more important question from where I'm sitting is whether the rest of the world is ready to eat near the DYKWIA brigade :!:     :p

I see the undertone and I agree :|

In my opinion, placing a limitation* like a particular type of card you have goes against what AFF is about, a community of sharing (mostly). It may not be breaking the site rules (as Hayden and I have discussed - he was concerned that the rules could be broken) but goes against the spirit of our online community.

Sorry Hayden,IMH (un-centurion) Opinion, organising this event with this limitation is somehow wrong with all the other sharing that goes on here.

*To be fair Hayden has invited me to this event, which I will most likely attend, will have to pay on my lowly platinum card, but my attendance would be to see my friend Hayden again, and to meet some new AFFers

I'm sorry but I don't agree at all. What about the end of anytime access meet ups or the F lounge get togethers, both of which were/are really just for QF WPs. There are plenty of things organised and discussed in this place which are inaccessible to some for various reasons. I've got nothing against you personally munitalP but if the Centurion dinner becomes some sort of free-for-all then I think it loses its raison d'être and I would lose interest in attending.

The beauty of a forum, you can think and say what you want. You may however want to edit your post as we (regular organisers) have never closed F Lounge runs to WP's only, and inaccessible due to geographic constraints is a heck of a lot different. I am interested in you naming one AFF organised event that has been limited to a select few members - if you can, I eat humble pie for a week

I'm not accusing anyone of restricting access. I'm just pointing out that this is the reality. How many NBs did you get to the end of anytime access wake?

Why don't we invite people off the street to join Hayden and other Centurion members to discuss the card? All they need to do is sign up for AFF and they can get in?

It just doesn't make sense to me. But as it's Hayden's (and your???) event I will leave it to you guys.

Has nothing to do with me

If it did, it would follow the spirit of AFF, not be a closed door affair.

You obviously need to attend a few AFF events and learn who attends. Without the facts, I would guess 2-3 NB's at the ATA wake - 2 silvers, and 5-6 golds.

Boy I wish I could take back the 3 minutes of my life I just wasted reading this thread.

For the record, I agree with Municipal, very un-AFF.

My view:

If people whohave something in common (in this case being holders of Amex Cenurion cards) want to get together, then go right ahead and do it. Personally I don't have such a card and as such would not be interested in the discussion topic which I expect will be based around the pros and cons of the card and associated services available, so I have no interest in wanting to attend. But I support the conept of people with something in common having the chance to arrange a meeting/gathering based on that common factor.

I do think that people who are seriously considering buying into the Centurion program may also value meeting with you all and both gaining from the experience as well as contributing to the discussion and sharing their experiences and thoughts.

So go ahead. Have a great time. Enjoy sharing the common theme.

munitalP, Perhaps one of the Centurion holders will be kind enough to guest you in?

Actually, munitalP, I was supporting your view. I was subtly pointing out that this function was going against the AFF norm of offering to guest people into lounges.
