Would anyone be interested in a AFF "Centurion Members" Dinner / Drinks night?

Are AFF Centurion Members keen for a Centurion Dinner / Drinks night?

Yep, and we have all had quite a few laughs recently haven't we.

So from a level headed conversation, you and Russ swing this to a personal level. Well done.

Pop your water pistols away!:p

I was only commenting that Russ's comment was amusing in an ironic way, nothing personal from me. I don't even know you! :)

As a mildy related point I would have thought that the QF anytime access wake was pretty specific to those who could originally have made use of it. Nothing wrong with that at all, and fair play to those who attended that were not WP's

My viewpoint is similar to NM's though. If Centurion Card holders want a get together then let them do so. I couldn't give a monkey's chuff! :)

It seems this thread is going off track...

In any event, it would be nice to meet other Centurion members...
Hayden, have you decided the location yet?

I don't see any reason, why a Centurion gathering can't be open to all. Love to meet up with other Cent members but also love other people to join in. I am more involve with certain car forum, and we never exclude any cars to join us. Always the more the merrier. At the end of the day it is a networking event not a DYKWIA event.

BTW, I can't attend in Nov, promised SO not to travel between Nov and March.

In my opinion, placing a limitation* like a particular type of card you have goes against what AFF is about, a community of sharing (mostly). It may not be breaking the site rules (as Hayden and I have discussed - he was concerned that the rules could be broken) but goes against the spirit of our online community.
Is this really any different to QF First Lounge runs, VA Appreciation run, *Alliance DOs, Oneworld DOs?

It is an online forum with many interest groups. Simply ignore what does not interest you. Also I would not want to attend any social gathering where I would do not feel welcome....

I'm in Wellington at the moment so have been offline & just got myself acquainted with the recent posts on this thread. I knew it was inevitable that munitalP would bring this up (!) on the thread - was just a matter of time, wasn't it munitalP?

Quite frankly if American Express can hold Centurion only events - so can I. And using a public forum for arranging it shouldn't be an issue. I'm surprised at some of the attitudes here, it's no wonder that some Centurion members stay out of the limelight if they automatically get tagged with a DYKWIA label.

The event will go ahead at a to be announced location. I will try to touch base with Amex upon my return to Sydney to see what ideas they can throw together for us.

Hayden

I tend to agree with NM's position on this

My view:

If people who something in common (in this case being holders of Amex Cenurion cards) want to get together, then go right ahead and do it. Personally I don't such a card and as such would not be interested in the discussion topic which I expect will be based around the pros and cons of the card and associated services available, so I have no interest in wanting t attend. But I support the conept of people with something in common having the chance to arrange a meeting/gathering based on that common factor.

I do think that people who are seriously considering buying into the Centurion program may also value meeting with you all and bothj gaining from the experience as well as contributing to the discussion and sharing their experiences and thoughts.

So go ahead. Have a great time. Enjoy sharing the common theme.

Given that we are an open community, all events promoted on AFF should, in principle, be open to all our members who have a genuine interest in attending. When arranging an event which is not open to all AFFers, I'd prefer that its not promoted on AFF.

I am happy that there are groups who can improve their positions and get excited by it. Would it matter if the US Air group wanted to get together about getting the best result from purchasing points? I wouldn't feel excluded by not going along. With Centurion the points cap is the big problem but if we don't read up on the product we could miss a vital change. Centurion members love their card so go for it.
Just as Hayden is stoked with Centurion I am the same with my US Gold Amex Premium Rewards earning up to 5 Kris points per dollar at Staples,Walmart and Target and 2 other places. That is like giving me an exchange rate of 1.20 for the Aussie dollar today. Excitement is good for all of us.

Thanks admin & NM

I acknowledge this comment and as this is your community you can choose what is posted and what is not. I carefully consulted the forum rules and did not appear to be breaking any rules, so this appears to be a "morally vs legally" issue - as the thread has not been closed down, I take it that your blessing has been provided to continue.

Not putting words in Admins mouth. I read this as perhaps a wording issue.

There could be valid input from centurion "wannabes". People that have had an invitation from Amex and want to talk to actual card holders.

There are politically correct ways to open it to everyone here, but ensure the actual turn out is the people you desire.

Off the top of my head. Hold it at a $500 a head minimum over stuffy small portioned snooty SYD restaurant. :-)

Thank you to Hayden for doing your best to make a nice get together for some like minded people.
I am sure we would all have lots more interesting things to talk about other than our points or pros and cons of the card.
As the Centurion events themselves are getting fewer and fewer, a nice relaxing night out to make new friends is
always welcome :)

It's not like we will have a bouncer to check the "ID" - Black Card anyway.

If I have the opportunity to attend the event (Depending on the location), I may not bring my centurion card at all :)
As I'm very young... I intended to keep a very low profile.

Agree with Admin. Noticed a couple of other posts re "Secret Meetings" lately. Thought this site was to share info with all for the benefit of all.
(Sounds a bit socialist)

I have no status with any airline, hotel group etc as ALL my flying is on points- I am right on the bottom of the heap. BUT enjoy my Amex points
and "The Private Room" and the pointy end a couple of times each year. Our staff enjoy bonus flights as a reward each year.

I did have "Black" Amex luggage tags but they only lasted until my first domestic flight - bags arrived minus tags. So I understand status is important to some.

Quick update:

Next week I hope to touch base with the Amex rep on AFF (once I find out who they are) or the Concierge team to come up with options.

Am looking at both a Sydney AND Melbourne event on consecutive weekends - this way people won't have to miss out, and those that want to come to both, can.

More details to come, but dates could look like this:

Sydney (Fri/Sat 4th November)
Melbourne (Fri/Sat 11th November)

Thoughts on these dates and the split location idea?

That works for me for Melbourne - will be in Lombok and the Gili Islands when the Sydney one is on!

Lol.....Like a labor party fundraiser!!

Awesome. I've spoken with the concierge team and they will get some options to me by Friday. It's a special event, so I hope they will come back with some good ideas/options. It's a great opportunity for Amex to show a public audience what their concierge team are capable of.

PS.... invites will be sent out as follows:
