It that a cancellation and rebooking fee of 2 x 5K?

You may be able to swing it with change fees, now up to 3.5K each ...

Hey Serfty - I was able to do a change instead of a cancellation as you said.. I just assumed that a change would be 5000 each, but it turned out to be 3500 which was actually a nice thing hehe! Thanks for the post

Re: Would u pay 10,000 points to change your flight from starclass flight to QF busin

I'm a big fan of star class but at the appropriate price. If using the points is not a big issue for you then I would do it. Even though the seats are not skybed they will be more comfortable than star class with a lot more leg room.

And the inflight service / meal offering will be better on Qantas although personally I don't mind the meat pie on JQ!

Very good point. As l have mentioned in a previous thread, l did HKT-SYD *Class and the food was rubbish. Seats were good. Lots of room. Service was pretty bad.

What do you expect from a LCC?

Interesting fact: The meat pies on JQ StarClass are the same as the meat pies on Emirates F!

QF J (any seat config) compared to JQ *C is like comparing apples to rotten apples.

Even Cloth covered Millennium seats on Qantas to Leather Covered Millennium seats on JQ?

Don't get me wrong; I sort of agree ...

Forget the seat and consider the total experience - check-in, staff, FOOD, etc. I personally hate the leather seats myself and find the cloth more comfortable.

Saying that, I'd do my level best to avoid any route not serviced by a skybed MKII+ ;)

Re: Would u pay 10,000 points to change your flight from starclass flight to QF busin

If anything, I think *C really should be sold as Y+ rather than J. Just drop the lounge access, then the overall service offerings and (promotional) price points would be pretty consistent with what is expected for Y+.

Re: Would u pay 10,000 points to change your flight from starclass flight to QF busin

yes, and its a shame that simongr didn't get it.

i got the double sc offer and have booked 4 trips for Jan and is looking to book another one for Febto cdg so simonge better be right about their safety records.

It’s easier to pick up on sarcasm in a post if you include a smiley such as :p

Without a smiley, it’s easily interpreted as if you were being serious.

Personally I've flown *C several times and have had a great experience, when you compare the price to what you receive. But it is still a Y+ product, not a Business product.

However, depending on which way you are looking at it, it can be a blessing in disguise. If you're trying to EARN SC's then it's an economical way of doing it - certainly cheaper than QF J (on the same routes). But if you're REDEEMING points to fly, then the opposite applies - it's a way for Qantas to get you to use your points up on a relatively cheaper product.

What I think QF need to do is introduce a new Status Credit level in between Full Y and J. They already give you 10% more points in Y+ than Y, so why not an extra amount of SCs? Then they could drop *C earn and redeem levels down to the same as QF PE as it's a similar product. *C earn shouldn't be equal to QF J, but nor should be redeeming points for it.

So MEL-NRT SC earn for example should be
Discount Y = 35 SCs
Full Y = 70 SCs
Y+ & *C = 105 SCs
J = 140 SCs

While I'm at it, maybe the points bonus should be updated as well - 10% for Full Y, 20% for Y+ and 30% for J...thoughts anyone?

Re: Would u pay 10,000 points to change your flight from starclass flight to QF busin

Wash your mouth out with soap

Don't get me wrong, I've used *C over QF on occasion purely for the SC earn and I milk it for all it's worth! I just think than QF Y+ should have a higher earn, and *C should be the same as that, so therefore slightly less than J...

Re: Would u pay 10,000 points to change your flight from starclass flight to QF busin

In the past two weeks, I have flown QF Business SYD to HNL, and back to SYD by JQ Starclass. There is NO comparison - QF Business is FAR superior. The old Dreamtime business seats on QF are still WAAAAY ahead of the Millennium seats in JQ starclass.

I do not think anyone would disagree with you on that. You do however need to relate the cost difference in there as well. When you factor that in they are all pretty appropriate except the points and SC awarded.

Jetstar describe it as their business class, so that's what it is.

I would argue that the Qantas economy experience is better than the Jetstar economy experience, and they cost the same number of points to redeem as well.

Thanks - 'tis reassurance that I did the right thing in changing the flights and paying a few extra points

Umm... Have you seen the prices? I don't believe that *C is sold as anything more than Y+, except by name!

Bit late now wilco, this thread is from December 2010

Starclass no longer exists, it's now called Business. How it relates to QF's Business offering is another thing obviously as JQ is a LCC and QF is not.

(probably best to check dates before dredging up old threads ;))

I didn't realize posts had a "best before" date. But cheers for the heads up and your response to a 10 month old post!
