... we lack the kind of nation building muscle demonstrated in the Wuhan hospital building exercise
Reminds me of the very fast train idea, from Melbourne to the north (somewhere), that has been discussed since the 1980’s. 😀

Edit: And we are still arguing about it

Fast train still doesn't make sense for Australia
About the only one that would make sense is in the Wollongong-Canberra-Neecastle triangle, obviously including Sydney.

Will be interesting to see whether this latest announcement makes Qantas bring forward it's suspension from Feb 9.

If your an Aussie citizen in China I'd be getting out asap

Yes. It’s just the 30 years of procrastination, going nowhere, instead of decisions as to something. Also in the 1960s: The need was recognised to determine a site for a second airport for Sydney

I have need to use hand sanitiser regularly and usually buy 2 x 1L Aqium every couple months.

Tonight I checked online more than 150 chemists in Victoria within 3 hours driving of Melbourne and 5-6 national delivery online chemist chains (for delivery) and all came back "out of stock". I found some limited stock in-store in another state for personal pickup, but a long way to go get it. 🚗

More of those pesky Preppers, stockpiling.

Similar method used building the Great Wall ... not sure that worked out all that well for the workers.

Might be a bit of a stretch comparing those two projects. 😉

I lived in China for just over a year as a trailing spouse for MrsMac’s work. If still there I would be happy to stay (we were in Guangzhou) however her company is now recalling all expats to their home countries, so the choice would be out of our hands. I imagine many other global companies are doing the same, which is probably one reason there are still another week of flights scheduled by QF. As a westerner I expect crossing to HK and flying from there would be the easiest way out if more airlines stop flying, though if the HK border is closed it may be a long wait.

Similar story around the country, and also in many countries around the world.

Apparently most are in Australia Post satchels bound for China.

And now H5N1. Bird flu in China.

I have three days in Beijing in June. I have tried all sorts of alternative routes by OWA but nothing at this stage. I have taken the decision to let things take their course for the time being which could go either way so will remain flexible. If I was booked to go in the near future I would choose not to go. At the least you may be forced into 14 days of self quarantine.

Hopefully, it will be all clear by then. However, the quarantine would be the least of my worries as I would be more concerned about contracting the virus. 🤔
