Amazing!
Just wondering, what is the taco seasoning like? (I'm guessing you have tried it at least once)

What about the next offer? :p:p

I bet you are wrong on the "never go into woolies again" part.

Indeed! For few who missed it in the main thread, another card in the house got the same offer last night... so part 2 is no doubt around the corner.

I'll be keeping an eye on ACA/Today Tonight as I'm sure your 15 mins of fame is just around the corner:D
Good job on donating the product:cool:

It's nice to be able to donate it, I was put off with the taco seasoning because there's only so much you can do with it. Maybe make a sandpit with it?

I'm more the private type otherwise I would imagine it's the sort of thing 'those' shows would lap up.

Obviously nobody can figure out exactly how you get these Select and Macro offers, however in our case we infrequently purchase a couple Select branded items, seldom Macro and subsequently have received no Macro offers.

Amazing!

Actually haven't tried it yet! Though a close friend told me it was the best of the ones from a supermarket in her opinion.

I would suggest trying the click and collect feature to save running around, do it with a far enough collection window in advance and call the store manager and I am sure your order will be complete.

I guess there's only so many Mexican nights you can throw (but then you'd have to pay for the taco shells, meat, veggies.... that adds up).

You could open a taco shop in Rundle Mall?

Then you need to start buying the Select taco shells as well :p

Terrific read. Had me laughing out loud at my desk with the 'country stores stay open late!' and 'i never want to go into a Woolies again'.

I've never had the guts to do a huge buy for an offer like that - I keep thinking I would be too embarrassed to walk up to a checkout with 100 packets of taco seasoning (although I could probably imagine greeting the checkout chick with a cheeky 'hola!').

Have a search/read up on the US DM 'stickers' promo from a few years ago - a guy went completely beserk on that one Christmas to the point where the sticker companies CEO had to cancel his Christmas holiday because the company couldn't handle the ridiculously large orders.

On another note, do you think WOW think of you as ripping them off or do they see you as a great customer? I guess they might realise you were only buying it for the points but if they're making money surely they encourage it? The point Im getting at is that if they realise what you did would it discourage them from making similar offers in the future or would it encourage them?

Congratulations, Joshua. Thoroughly entertaining. What was your final dollar spend on the tacos and cat food to get the 142.5k?

I think it's time I started to pay attention to this Woolworths card thing.

Does AFF have a thread explaining how it all works?

Thanks to everyone about donating the seasoning. I am on it and plan to, just haven't sorted that one out quite yet. The expiries on all these products are well into 2013 which is ideal for donating.

That's always up for discussion but loyalty programs really are a one-way street. Maybe some arbitrage going on here, but I think it's a win-win for everyone. Really we could have a big philosophical discussion about it and I'd love to read what loyalty program mangers have written on the topic. In reality it's probably such a small number relatively for Woolworths and EDR. I'd definitely be an outlier but most likely overlooked. Still I'm moving a lot of their cat food stock locally.

Sorry, I completely forgot to put in the total cost!!

Worked out around $2200 which includes quite a few other random items that lift the cost per point up a bit.

I think I also forgot to mention the final seasoning total was about 15000 servings.

If I was to do it again this week I could do it for nearly $350 cheaper, again before tax implications.

A very interesting read. I think I might sign up to EDR now.

Also be aware that the taco seasoning is a bit of a niche product and some charities might not be so receptive to receiving such a large amount all in one go.

cat food will be going to the RSPCA.

A big 'LIKE' for this one :)

And as for the other major purchase-

I guess there's only so many Mexican nights you can throw (but then you'd have to pay for the taco shells, meat, veggies.... that adds up).

My thoughts too - you'd want a lot of friends who loved a lot of Mexican (it is hard being a bit of a niche product IMHO)... I'm willing to bet that apart from everything else, you're Australia's #1 taco mix buyer!

That was a mighty points credit to your FF account - even the longest F flight with WP bonus pales in comparison. Would make many an AFFer shake in excitement and envy to see that entry :p

Now, if anyone ever says I'm crazy for going to TSV or DRW and hopping on the next flight back without even getting out of the airport, I can say "Well you think that's something? Let me tell you about someone I read about once..."

This pretty much sums up my reaction to joshua's efforts here:

The look of the poor sod in the EDR Audit/Analysis offices when he runs the report looking for anomalies would be priceless. He'll see a massive points transaction, look at the promotions and transactions which made it, look back at the promotion conditions - before writing a report and watching the coughs further up the chain be properly kicked. Oh to be a fly on the wall when that all goes down :D

Seriously, bravo. *tips my hat*

Ahhh markis10, what have we spawned? Joshua the Mexican Cat guy :D. Glad that our research into the tax effect has helped.

I can just see the next "Extreme Couponing" intro :D

"in an International twist, meet Joshua, an Australian who has taken shopping at Woolworths and collecting FF points to a new level. Let's see his story.."

Actually, the Taco mix tastes really good, still have a couple left. It is a bit spicy for children, but Foodbank will love it.

No better time to be doing it, just prior to the end of FY, so hopefully any tax benefits flow back before the bill is due for payment.

Words/phrases that are now part of our vocabulary:

A. Extreme couponing (Australian style)
B. Trolley runs
C. Joshua the Mexican Cat guy

The impressive things:

1. You had a willing accomplice. I could only imagine the look I'd get from my wife
2. Learning from experience. Don't work harder, work smarter. Click&Collect, a couple of phone calls and hey presto!
3. You get to do it all again this week ;)

My wife said that Taco seasoning sprinkled onto chicken and then grilled comes out nice. I was too afraid to ask how long 17,000 servings would take her to do...

Just checked my inbox. And got the same offer. Well, not exactly the same, it's 100 point per product.

Hmm, trolley run...

Of course, I just went to WW online myself and thought "I wonder what happens when you put a qty of 1000 in there?"

You just answered my question...

And it's real close to tax time. I could use some more deductions. The RSPCA is going to love me..
