firstly, thank you to Markis10 for posting the number for woolworths on line customer service.. very helpful supervisor who thought that it was wonderful that I was going to donate it all. and thought it marvelous that I was taking advantage of the offer.. logged into my account and changed the quantities to allow me to place my order and spoke to the local store who is delivering it all to the lost cats home on Monday. then contacted the lost cats home to let them know that it was being delivered and that it was for them and not just some wrong address..
now to wait and see how long it takes to post the points..

s#*t,, wonder what my missus will say when I tell her how much i spent on cat food??????

So what was your outlay, total haul of cat food and expected points return?

Yep, I'd like to know the quantity too. I have got rain checks a few stores but they're limiting me on how much. Also maybe I'm not as enthusiastic as I already did the big haul 2 weeks ago. Still, sounds even easier so would be happy to join in the fun.

Oh and an additional question. How have you factored in getting a donation receipt for tax deduction purposes by getting it delivered directly? In my case I have spoken to people at the shelter so they'd be well aware who and what it is and have the accounts department provide a statement confirming the donation for the value of the shopping receipt(s).

Might give the online number a call myself, I honestly enjoyed driving around emptying shelves but not that this is part 2 for me I'm happier to do it the easiest way possible. Most of all glad to see others are benefiting and giving it a go, since it really is a win-win for all!

oh,, I forgot to thank Joshua for the inspiration to do the trolley run,, well it wasn't really a trolley run, more a click and call run..
first question.. total outlay $2070. which, when I take into account the tax deduction is a nett cost of $1138.50
second question,,, 3000 cans,, which at 100 points should equate to 300000 qff points
Joshua,, I have called the lost cats home to let them know that the donation is being delivered to them and is in my name so that they are aware of it and don't think that woolies has made a mistake with the delivery address.. they are also sending me confirmation of the donation which along with my receipt should be enough to appease the ato..
I have to say, that once I had explained to the supervisor what I was doing, she was very helpful, she actually went into the system and changed it so that I could order the quantity that I wanted to, and changed the delivery address on my profile.
and yes,, it's a win win for all concerned.

I've realised what this thread reminds me of!

Punch Drunk Love:

"his plan to exploit a loophole in a Healthy Choice promotion and amass a million frequent flyer miles by buying large quantities of pudding (based on the true story of David Phillips)"

David Phillips (born 1964), also called The Pudding Guy,[1] is an American civil engineer best known for accumulating many frequent flyer miles by taking advantage of a promotion by Healthy Choice Foods in 1999.

Phillips, who teaches at the University of California, Davis, calculated while grocery shopping that the value of a mail-in promotion for frequent flyer points exceeded the cost of the entree on which it is offered. In May 1999, Phillips received 1,253,000 frequent flyer miles."

Provided this all works, it sounds like you have taken this to the next level by cutting out all the running around! This means instead of doing a run you can just do a mass order online/over the phone and not even have to pick it up! All you would have to do is visit the charity to collect the WOW and tax deduction receipts.

Are you going to do it again later this week if it works (i.e. if you get the points in time).

This is the most exciting thread on AFF!

I think you're right... isn't it just one reward of 50 points for buying any number of Select products. I think the offer reads that way, not 50 points per purchase.

I really don't think that my wife would be very happy if I told her that I did this again.. although I suppose if down the track some offer came along that would benefit a charity? I would definitely do it this way as apposed to spending my day running around to different super markets. You also know that the goods will be put to good use.

I suspect all the supervisor contacts will result this being shut down or at least severly limited to xx items.

Afterall on these super- cheap products, I suspect woolies is running at a loss.
Cat food $0.75
Cost $0.40 (assuming a decent profit margin as generic brand)
Normal profit $0.35

Then deduct Cost of points (given when redeemed for cash it is abot 1c/point, QFF will sell them to woolworths for more than this... Lets assume 1.2c)

50 point offer $0.60
Loss on sale $0.25 per item...

100 point offer $1.20
Loss on sale $0.85 per item...

Amazing work Joshua.
Here I thought I was crazy (along with a few others) mr'ing in the USA but you sir have taken it to a whole new level.
Hanging to hear about the next one!

My wife said that Taco seasoning sprinkled onto chicken and then grilled comes out nice. I was too afraid to ask how long 17,000 servings would take her to do...

Funnily enough I did exactly that last night (couldn't be bothered going down to the shop to get anything else so made something out of what was in the cupboard/freezer!), but unfortunately was Schwartz and not Select  No Woolworths over here...

I've always assumed that the big buyers of points such as credit card companies and supermarket loyalty programs would get a good discount on the frequent flyer points. The best thing about points from Qantas perspective is that they effectively a huge pool of currency that sits in their accounts that they don't have to pay any interest on and people rarely cash in.

If you consider the net present value of money, you could sell the points to someone like woolworths for less value than you will later recoup because you have $X,xx_,xx_X dollars sitting in your account making interest while people are sitting on their points.

Does anyone know the what the cost is to buy points for the big players?

Well done Joshua! I admire your enthusiasm.

Not sure what I would do if I received the same sort of offer as I have more QFF points than I can use at the moment but who knows....
