XMAS Event 2012 - planning thread

Now that we have settled on a date and a location, is there any value in starting a new thread.

Any ideas for dinner for the Saturday night, I do know that it is 5 months away.

I have booked JQ35, and Hilton South Wharf, I think you can do better on your prices so I have made only a flexi hotel booking at the moment.

Will there be a pre-do in Sydney on Friday night?

hmmm
note to self
Pay attentionto thread or all the good rooms get taken!

i'm a platinum for drinks and dinner
Mrs C i cant vouch for but she probably will if APC or FIFA turns up! (she remembers your real names not your handles!)

She will be staying in a yarra suite before that so may well want to go again!
As a lowly gold i have to book these things to ensure i get them!

If only the damn hilton site worked properly

Hi People

another planning survey - sorry to inflict this torture upon you, but to ensure that the event caters for everyone - well at least majority, I need to ask some more questions.

Thanks

munitalP Have completed google form and posted +2 for dinner but if too many are coming they won't mind, I am NOT a lover of Greek or Middle Eastern even though I dotted don't care.

Looking forward to meeting you +1 and some more AFF'ers.

Filled and submitted the form - thanks munitalP!

Seeing the form kind of reminded me about Home - The Colonial Tramcar Restaurant. Always wanted to try it - yes, it is very gimmicky for the expense; yes, I know it was done for AFF Gather #1 (which I missed on this particular event); yes, it is quite expensive. But, it is kinda cool, one car can fit 36 people, the departure point is near the MCEC and it continues the 'transport' theme (not sure if you could have announcements etc. in the carriage, though).

Busy filling in (mostly with the fence-sitting option) - just need to check, I assume the 'do you need guesting?' question is in relation to JQ35 (which I'm not doing) and not something else like Exec lounge or something?

I love the tramcar. Yes, it is expensive if you just take into account the quality of the meal (think reception centre) but IMHO the ambience (looking out the window to find yourself in a new part of Melbourne every 5 minutes) and the generosity in the topping up of the drinks makes up for it. Personally, I don't like the 'entertaining' staff - I'm quite happy being entertained by the company I'm with - but I think you can request a more low-key service if you have all or the majority of the tram.

That said, December is usually booked out a good 6 months ahead I understand.

The tramcar restaurant was part of Ozfest 4, Melbourne 2007, an event that serfty organized.

AFF1 was in Melbourne in August 2008, where anat0l and I both flew a JQ35 run, serfty joined us that day but First lounge only allowed one guest that particular day.

Unless the online form is lousy for checking the real-time availability of seats, checking the availability on 22/12/2012 for 36 people on the late night sitting seems to yield OK (I got up to the payment page, didn't proceed past that).

I was surprised too - expecting it to be booked out.

Sorry - drifting O/T now and away from the good organisation here.... and further EDIT: OK no more about the tram car restaurant. :)

Completed the form.

I might just add that I am not a fan of alternate drops, if that what one of the questions was getting at......
