No-one else did, so I had to mention the .. er ... altercation... & asked the question. He shone his torch at the offending part. Then later showed us where the repairs were done. Where the bits exploded out & flew through the wing, & out the other side... Yikes!
It was great to meet the flight Engineer who spent many months in SIN with Nancy getting her shirt together, & then deliver her back to QF. He was in the coughpit today, & did the taxi out of the hangar to the high thrust test zone.

Many thanks to all at QF today :)

He also showed the gaffer tape jobbie holding the wing back together ;)

I think I would rather remain hug-less if that is the attitude here

We were surprised that you didn't send your standard greeting on sat - especially considering all the important forum members were in the J Lounge simultaneously ;)

I was unfortunately busy doing this strange work thing...

That horrible four letter word that ends in K.

It was a great night (and morning after at breakfast). The food was awesome, the conversations very interesting and I got a hug. :p

After breakfast on Sunday I went to the P1 MCA lounge and a couple of us enjoyed a quiet hour overlooking the harbour.

Absolutely packed flight on the way home, no shadow and the bloke in 4B had wide shoulders. :(

Interestingly enough I did see the crew walking around with the pax list but none approached me. Que sera.

Would be nice to be able to attend both events next year. Maybe some date negotiation would benefit attendees who might like to attend both events?

The Melbourne event was organised as an alternative for those that couldnt attend Syd (which was what I had in mind when I raised the idea with JessicaTam)

No the Melbourne event was organized because people who should behave like adults are not capable of kissing and making up.

/rant over.

Some people were never going to be able to attend the Sydney event due family commitments. (Me for example). The small gathering in Melbourne was a way for some of those people still being able to catch up with at least some of their friends for a Christmas dinner. I was fortunate that I was able to intertwine my family Christmas commitments with the AFF dinner on Saturday night.

We all have different reasons for doing what we do and I’m sure that everyone at both get-togethers had a great time.

That's as may be, Straitman, but why did AFF set their event for the exact same evening as the Facebook FFA group held theirs in Sydney? To me this seems less about an "alternative" to suit some Melbourne folk and more about competition to make Melbourne AFF members choose between the AFF and FFA dinners.

I was unable to attend the Sydney Facebook FFA dinner so I do not have a vested interest either way.

But it seems disingenuous for AFF to smarm about Melbourne being an alternative and to say "I’m sure that everyone at both get-togethers had a great time" when AFF's deliberately chosen date ensured that nobody could attend both get-togethers if that is what they would have liked to have done.

I don't think it was about choosing; the Syd event was planned well ahead of Melbourne, we just picked up the left-over people who each had their own reasons for not attending the Syd do (for me, I couldn't justify the cost to fly up for dinner). And for the record, the MEL event has been on the last weekend before Christmas for the last few years.

I am personally extremely offended that both events occurred at a time when I was particularly busy at work, therefore couldn't attend either :( :( :(

I am going to write to the pope and ask that Christmas be rescheduled for April to coincide with a better time of year for me...

:p :p :p

I concur - I couldn't make Sydney due to work commitments, and so Melbourne was a nearby alternative (unfortunately didn't make that one either!) - so conspiracy theorists please remove your tin-foil hats :)

On a more serious note - why does everyone feel that they need to hurl mud on this issue.

I am a happy member of both AFF and FFA (and many other travel forums).

Let's keep both groups / forums about talking about TRAVEL... If you have enough time to bare ill-will then clearly you aren't travelling enough... GET OUT OF YOUR HOUSE AND FLY SOMEWHERE!!!!!

And apologies from me for accidently setting off the debate
