Re: 2015 in review

We don't travel for work but this year I took my husband, who in a past life must have been a roadie or muso, to Jimi Hendrix's grave in Seattle plus a few other places significant to Hendrix and then he got in touch with is hippy side in SF followed by the Fender Guitar factory to pick up his custom Strat. I rock as a wife :) And we went to Darwin for the first time and I want to move there.

Best experience: A Darwin sunset - I could watch a hundred of them.

Worst: VA "J" seats long haul - I repeat, I would happily torch them when they get replaced this year.

Up coming: Cambodia so hubby can take photos and be Lara Croft, NZ/Wellington for the Bledisloe, and thinking of flying to Perth on Christmas day... because we can and I have to start planning our next trip, thinking South Utah/North Arizona or Moscow.

Oh and flew VX for the first time - highly recommended even without a lounge and was able to utilise the VA Hilton Diamond offer and scored a couple of suite upgrades.

Agree on the old VA long haul seats in J - pretty dated. Seat next to mine kept getting stuck and made loud noises. Service on the other hand was excellent, and the EY lounge in Sydney AWESOME

Re: 2015 in review

Not a big year for me

26 segments.

New airports...DUD...ZQN...BME...KOE

New Airline TL (Air North)

All of the 235 flights listed in AFF Flight tracker have been since I retired. I have no idea of the total flights during my working life.

Looking forward to my first SQ A380 flight in J (I have booked the curry lamb shanks already) in about 3 weeks

Re: 2015 in review

CBA pulling out the list of flights, its less than you lot but enough nonetheless.

Higlights: America and Canada. Three times for a total of 5 weeks. LOVED every second of it. Air NZ Space seat was pretty good too. UA gate lady taking pity on me, and after a long chat about Melbourne (her family is here) bumped me to first. Spending my birthday with the three people in the whole world I love the most, in two different cities none of which my home.

This was also the year I made platinum on Virgin, premier gold on United, and status match to Avianca Diamond.

Lowlights: Middle seat at the back of the 7am plane with a 3 day hangover LAS to ATL. Every single flight that morning was booked solid including first class. Being rejected from the Delta club in Salt Lake City because I couldn't find my velocity card. Forgetting the second set of care hire keys in BNE and racing, 20 minutes to take off, drunk, outside to hertz and back to the gate in time. I was a bit green :-|

Re: 2015 in review

Quiet year for me.

New airports: BNE, MKY.

Finally visited the Whitsundays - beautiful place. Amazed at how much I enjoyed Mackay - thought it would be bogan central but it's a lovely city.

I spent most of the time living vicariously through others travels :)

Re: 2015 in review

Only one new airport for me this year: DXB. I'd not been to the UK since the QF/EK alliance, so it was interesting. I'm not keen on flying in that vicinity TBH, but it was OK. The lounges were intriguing.

My quality of life during travelling for business has been immensely enhanced by the new CBR terminal. Also I regularly get assigned exit-row seating in Y with a shadow when flying out of CBR on the 1710 B717, so I am very grateful.

Really hoping the QF upgrade fairy works their magic on me to go from J to F on my return SYD-DFW trip in Jan! :D

First time travel to Europe for me. Sadly went more often to the airport to drop off/pick up others than flying myself. Not a big year for flying, but thats what happens when your career gets a big shake up.

Re: 2015 in review

I managed three overseas trips this year. I also managed to enjoy both QF int. J and F for the first time this year. I'm addicted now!

Re: 2015 in review

I joined AFF in 2015 so this marks the beginning of my FF life.

New airports for me were LAX, JFK, SFO & WLG. Had my very first lounge experience in the WLG QF lounge thanks to a generous forum member. Also visited the Wingtips (JFK) and KAL (LAX) lounges.
Flew with QF, VA & VX all in whY.

My goal is to have my first J flight in 2016 thanks to the knowledge gained here =)

Re: 2015 in review

Lots of first experiences for me this year. 52 flights, first time on EY (including first F experience which was first OP upgrade) first A380 flight, first F flight on Delta, first countries visited were Singapore, UAE (Abu Dhabi and Dubai), France, Switzerland, Turkey, first time to New York, Niagara, Washington DC and Atlanta, and first time to those associated countries and states airports. A few firsts for next year planned by visiting Oman and India.

Re: 2015 in review

Hey - interesting thread - found it via link in AFF newsletter. It was another big travel year for myself and Mr LL -

- Dec14/Jan15 - Antarctica (and a few other places in South America) - tick that one off the bucket list - trip of a life time - flew LA and QF using AA points in J

- Feb - 3 weeks skiing in Whistler - flew AC SYD-YVR in J then YVR-PEK-SYD in J using LM points

- April - SYD-Japan-Guam-Seoul-SYD using the (RIP) US DM program loophole of 30,000 miles return in J with stops in Japan and Seoul (this was actually an add-on)

- May-June - Sweden, then the Baltic and Norway cruise - flew SQ F Suites (love those AmEx points)

- Sept - New York, Montreal, Boston, Newport, Southampton, Yosemite & Sequoia - flew JL (J and F) using US DM points

- Nov - Tasmania - flew VA Y (I survived)

- Now in Jan 2016 it's off to Whistler (3 weeks) again with a stop in Niseko on the way home to try that Japanese powder snow - flying JL J - our last hurrah using US DM points

Re: 2015 in review

Quiet year for me, 18 flights, 27000 miles.

One new airport - CNS.

First actual entry to Thailand (as opposed to transit at BKK) for 25 years (though I only stayed a few days in Bangkok).

Next year looks like being much 'bigger'. :)
