S.S.S.S.S.S. Tour (Singapore, Switzerland, Scotland, Sydney in Singapore Suites

First time poster as a trip report, so I hope I keep you entertained or at least informed, mainly by pictures, as I am an "organiser" not a writer.
But here goes....
My first ever trip in F and I score 4 legs in Singapore Suites. SQ 232 from Sydney to Singapore. All legs were in A380.
Sydney Singapore lounge nothing to rave about, so no images. I sleep a good 75% of flights - no matter what class I am flying, but gee, the bed was good.





Just a bit more room in the bathroom than in Y.




There was only 5 of us in the cabin for this leg, and 2 bathrooms to share.

And just to be very precise - the bathroom behind the A Suites is a little larger than the one behind the F Suites - I like room

SQ 346 SIN - ZRH only 3 pax this time in cabin. I must be scaring them off.

Next stop Zurich for 2 days, but a few plugs first.
Riccardo from Blacklane Limousines was my driver. Nothing was too much trouble, and a very well travelled gentleman. Would highly recommend, and the price about par with cost of a taxi. In fact one journey I had Riccardo drive me, and as I had no idea how long I would be at my appointment, decided I would just get a taxi back. The taxi cost me more than the Limo ride.

So, next day I decided to go for train ride to other side of the lake and then a walk described in Lonely Planet.

Uetliberg – Zurich's Very Own "Mountain"
Uetliberg is Zurich's very own "mountain", from where you have beautiful views of the city and lake – and perhaps even a glimpse of the Alps.
At 2,850 feet above sea level, Uetliberg towers over the rooftops of Zürich.
The mountain affords an impressive panoramic view of the city, the lake and the Alps.

The Uetliberg is particularly popular in November, as its summit is often above the blanket of fog that can cover the city at this time of year. In the winter, the hiking trails to the summit are converted into sledding runs.

In summer, there’s plenty to discover on well-marked hiking routes, a mountain bike route, and on the Planet Trail. This two-hour walk from Uetliberg to Felsenegg (Adliswil) takes you on a fascinating tour through a model of our solar system.

This was a beautiful way to spend a couple of hours.

My hotel for this first stop at Zurich was Hotel Seehof, great location just 1 block from the lake. Nothing overly fancy, but did the job for the 2 nights.

I now have 6 days between appointments in Zurich. I had not seen my daughter for several months, as she was taking the year to study abroad, and was currently in Scotland - she does not know that I am on this trip, so time to go surprise her.
BA 0713 ZHR to LHR
BA1314 LHR to Aberdeen
BA4040 Aberdeen to Kirkwell (Orkney Islands) operated by Loganair.

My flight into Kirkwell is the last one for the day, and my bag did not make the flight. By the time they tell me it will be on the first flight next morning, I have missed the bus into town, all the airport staff are waiting for me to leave so they can lock up for the night. They are kind enough to call a taxi for me.

I have booked into the same accommodation as my daughter- The Kirkwell Peedi Hostel Kirkwall Peedie Hostel, Orkney, Islands



I find her in the guest lounge, cheese platter and bottle of red, laying on the lounge watching TV. I am greeted by "what the cough* are you doing here!!"
Love you too sweetheart.

After been chastised for swearing, we head off to the Kirkwell Hotel for dinner and a catch-up.

My husband had asked me to view the Kirkwall Scoll for him, unfortunately it no longer resides here due to insurance costs.

On the west wall of the temple of Lodge Kirkwall Kilwinning No. 38(2) in Orkney hangs one of the oldest and most important Masonic artefacts in the world. Known as The Kirkwall Scroll, it is made of three pieces of strong linen (some suggest sailcloth) sewn together and hand-painted throughout. The complete hanging cloth is eighteen feet six inches long and five feet six inches wide. It consists of a centre strip which contains around one hundred Masonic symbols, and two outer strips which appear to be maps. The two outside strips appear to have come from the same piece of material and may well have been joined at one time.

I am unable to find a rental car on the entire island, so our trips around the islands are by public transport.

Then on to Stromness, with a boat ride out to Island of Hoy.

Next overnight ferry to the Shetland Islands.



This time I am able to secure a car, and we are able to travel the entire length of the main island.




Above really is a wonderful hostel. The staff - the best I have ever encountered. Marked on our map all the places we should try to get too.
First stop - our most northern point - Hermaness National Nature Reserve. 60 degrees North.
