I am more annoyed that the Woolworths petrol stations will be converting to BP, which means their prices will be going up by 7 cents a litre, at least.

For me BP is just about the cheapest I can get without going right out of my way. Combine that with the velocity pts & no surcharge for AMEX and they are my go to station. I fill up a couple of times a week with them. Will be disappointing when the Velocity deal is no more.

Quite the opposite experience here - getting Velocity points is about the only "plus" for us in fuelling up at BP. Their prices are usually well above the other fuel retailers in the area, and of the 5 BPs that are easily accessible to us (near home or on the way to/from work), 4 have an AMEX surcharge.

I wonder if it's because the affiliation wasn't the revenue generating bonanza BP thought it would be. Perhaps it couldn't offset the fact that they charge way above what the station across the street charges. Or the fact that half the time your Velocity card wouldn't work in their outdated POS systems. Or could it be their dumb TV promos weren't that great. Or that the points took forever to appear.

Or............should I keep going?

BP is very inconsistent here in Sydney - there's one nearby which is cheap, so I've ended up using it reasonably frequently. But more often than not BP are the second most expensive to Shell/Coles Express. I've stopped collecting the Coles fuel vouchers because they're more than 4c more expensive 99% of the time.

On the Gold Coast they're outrageously priced sometimes. Certainly more than the United, 7-Eleven and Woolworths-Caltex all in my area.

As for the actual topic, I can see why they need to end their partnership considering they've bought into Woolworths service. They didn't actively seek out a deal with Qantas but because of Woolworths deal with Qantas it puts them in a tricky position. Could be very interesting if for a small period of time you could choose your frequent flyer program or even double dip.

Sort of unfortunate I just got a Starcard because of Qantas Business Rewards as I might need the BP equivalent soon.

Seem to recall the outlet near OOL being at least 20c a litre more expensive than the nearby Coles Express, presumably to capture that lucrative "return rental with full tank" market.

I feel like in this case Velocity are better off seeking some sort of compensation from BP for ending the agreement early, better than having a partner who is actively trying to ditch you!

On the sunny coast BP are usually the dearest and cheapest.Unfortunately the ones near us are usually the dearest.The BP at Palmwoods often makes the grade as the cheapest on the coast.Near us the Coles/shell are quite often the cheapest.

In Perth BP are very expensive. So much so that I only used them when Velocity had a bonus points offer. I find the cheapest are independents like Vibe - especially with an IGA receipt. No AMEX surcharge. But no FF points either!

Likewise in Gippsland. Not sure how they sell any fuel due their prices.

That's a yes from me. I am a long time Woolies rewards card member (as well as Coles) so I shouldn't complain. With my spend at Woolworths I can choose from either QFF points or Christmas bonus points to redeem at the checkout in mid December.

Hmmmm, points for an airline I hardly fly, or a nice fat ham leg on the Chrissy table?

I am in the dearest BP camp... BP always 8 - 10 cents dearer than say Woolworths before 4c discount.

A lot of people feel it is dearer and based on fact, a lot are dearer, so benefit / cost does not stack up
