Hope you are all enjoying your weekends!

There have been many questions asked over the past few months as to what is happening with our frequent flyer program.
While we're not re-launching the program until later in the year, one thing I can confirm is that we will have a Platinum tier - U asked for it, we've listened. It's on its way!

More information will be announced closer to the relaunch

Great news! Good to see people inside Virgin are listening!!

I doubt I'll ever make it, but its definatly something to strive for!

They have promised to keep things rolling out throughout the year so I would not be too disappointed just yet. :D

Kind of beggs the question, why has the Velocity system been down all weekend?

Thanks for the heads up...

I am not sure how to take this - in many ways it's great news, but it also means I'm no longer top tier, and may jot get my automatic allocation of row 3 :(

I was hoping today would see the whole relaunch happen too!

Do we have any idea of what qualification requirements will be needed - and I assume of course that AFF Gold members will receive complimentary Platinum level...

Liam: when you texted me you didn't seem so happy about this news: one down from the top baby: deal with it!:rolleyes:

Why yes, us AFF members are more than happy to trial the new Platinum level to see how it works. What a great way to sort out all the bugs! *Thinks back to Qantas NCGI*

Thats because I'm nolonger the highest tier!

And that's why I didn't status match last time around... ;)

Hopefully they can put together some interesting benefits more than just more points and more luggage and more whatever, listening QF?

Congrats, certainly needed.

No doubt yet to be conformed the exact benefits, but personally i'd like to see it called something other than platinum, too much "keeping up" and less "innovating". I know it's just a name, but image, as they say, is everything. It's another chance to "leap ahead" rather than mimic.

Interesting. Will be interesting to see how high the bar is to qualify. Shall we run a pool on how many SC's it will take?

Currently Silver = 20k, Gold = 50k, Plat = ?

it rings to me of the QF announcement of Platinum Plus... wave the carrot around!

Exactly. What's the fuss all about. So they'll have a level called Platinum. Hooray!

I'll get excited when they tell us what's involved, other than a name. In the meantime, more of the drip feed.

Yup. Time to do some fence sitting, eat some PopCorn and watch as the battle rolls out on the small screen of my laptop. I mean this is just another Soap Opera. Right?

Maybe thats why Virgin aren't putting IFE into their aircraft yet. Watching this whole battle between the airlines is entertainment in itself. :p

Some clues as to the amount of flying required to achieve this level would be nice. Also, I trust that y'all at Virgin Australia understand that we'll be expecting a little more than ~60% bonus points on flighting with VA .. :p

Fantastic news!

I think the qualification for Gold will reduce and Plat will only be marginally higher than current Gold. I think they will go down a mileage based earn route rather than the current dollar spend (I actually prefer points based on dollar spend)... Time will tell!!

Agreed - I note today that the earn rates on VS have changed for DJ - they are now 50%-125% based on fare class and mileage over the previous distance bands.

Thanks for making the announcement. We kind-of knew it was in the works, but wanted confirmation ;) (There is always something to strive higher to obtain!!).

Please let us know the details when you can.

[See I can post something relatively nice towards Virgin Australia occasionally ;) ]
