How long for complimentary Car Rental status to come through?

Started this topic as a companion to the Hotel Status thread.

I went with the Hertz option, applied for it on August 30th, day after my status match came through.
 
Good idea. Here's what I wrote on the Hotel status thread yesterday......

I received an email from Europcar today stating my tier upgrade would be completed as soon as I update my privilege profile (which I did last week-end).

She then stated my status upgrade would occur within 10 working days!

I might just add, I hadn't updated my profile last week-end, that was Hertz I was thinking of, so that's a valid reason for delay. I guess the hint for quick processing is to make sure you're a Privilege member and your details are up to date!

Well the hertz email came through yesterday. Click on the link to finish the process. The only optiom available is hertz gold. The five star is not an option, i thought the 5 star was the level provided to golds. Am i correct?
If its only hertz gold then that bites, because i am better off sticking with thrifty blue chip, which is free anyway, and, a very efficient system

Hertz Gold is the program, it's not indicative of the level.

You have to join the club initially as per Markis quote above, in that link it waives the normal $60 annual fee and then Hertz Representative can activate the correct level that you are at.
 
Interesting that some people are seeing a quick response on the Hertz membership.

I'm already a Hertz #1 Gold club member, have been for years, applied for the PC match (and received "someone will contact you" email) on the 29th of August. Still waiting for something to happen ...

Unfortunately work dictates that we use them.

I've got a 6 day rental coming up in 2 weeks, I was really hoping for the status match to come through in time for the free upgrade.

Thanks for that, it did say gold five star in the email I recieved, and didn't know how it worked. I will send it through
 
Received email from Hertz last night. Now Presidents Circle. Applied 30 August.:p
 
On a related topic, I note on the "My Europcar" Privilege site, that they don't list the status level, or am I missing something basic?

Under the "My Loyalty Information" heading it does say this:
Welcome to your Privilege Club summary page!

When my Gold status match comes through, will that change to:
Welcome to your Privilege Executive summary page! ?


Another thing I note, booking a car through Virgin/CarTrawler, does not show up under the "Manage My Bookings" tab. I can use the reservation number provided by CarTrawler to bring up the booking in the Europcar web site, but it can't be modified or canceled from there, like my other bookings can be and it only stays there until the page is closed, then it's gone into cyber-space again.

I've also noticed, the DJ site books the car with fairly generous time delays between landing and pick-up and again between drop off and take off! Forget that, I change the preselected times now as I'd prefer to have the Europcar staff waiting for me rather than the other way around (like what happened to me previously one time).

From what I can see, there is no benefit from using the DJ booking engine to book the car, but there are those drawbacks. You apparently still receive the 3 points per dollar even if you book directly. Does anyone know of any benefit by using the DJ site? Whats others do with their bookings?
 
I know someone was wondering if the rental car status matches get reset on 31 Dec (end of calandar year) but I can't find the post now so I don't know if they meant Europcar or Hertz.

I did just find this in the Europcar FAQs;

Level Upgrades
As soon as a Member earns enough PRIVILEGE Credits to be upgraded, the upgrade will be implemented with immediate effect. This means that a new Card reflecting the new status of the said Member will be automatically sent to the Member.

Any new status reached is valid for a period of twelve (12) months (three hundred and sixty five (365) days) during a calendar year: January 1 - December 31

Level Downgrades
On 31 December of each year, the level in the Program to which a Member is to be entitled the next year will be determined by the number of PRIVILEGE Credits accumulated from 1 January until 31 December of that same year:

I'm not entirely sure what that means. To me, it seems this means a status match now will mean at least 365 days at that comped status level, but unless we achieve the min. hire days between now and 31 Dec 2011, it's back down a level after the 365 days. Is this the way others read that comment. Either that, or the status is for next year and the following year (2013) status will be determined by 2012 hires.

The upside for the Privilege Elite members (comped Plats) is that there is a soft landing:
  • If a Member has earned no PRIVILEGE Credits during the relevant year, the Member will be downgraded to one level lower;
  • If a Member has earned PRIVILEGE Credits during the year, but not enough to maintain his current membership level as per the rules defined in Chapter -1 hereby, the Member will be downgraded to one level lower.

I never heard anything from Hertz after applying for the President's Circle upgrade, but I just logged into my Hertz account and it is clearly showing me as a President's Circle member. So it took a couple of weeks from applying to getting the upgrade.

As soon as you have completed your Privilege enrolment we will be able to elevate your tier status within 10 business days.

I had my Hertz upgrade to Presidents Circle come through yesterday :)
 
Next time I go to CNS and actually get a Yaris I booked because there are too many PCs now I will be looking at you MR! :)

My partner received his europcar email about two hours ago. I created his account, and after that about 10 days later it will be upgraded to the correct status for gold. Have also added our booking already made for Europe next year which will save us a couple of hundred dollars to add me as an extra driver (not that I plan to do any driving!:shock:) plus a free upgrade. Gotta love their cars in Europe - a BMW for the price of a camry here!

I just did a requote from the original booking and see that a promo code of $30 has already been applied. Will wait until the upgrade occurs and will re book the hire car.

Well done Pushka. I too got my europcar email today. I have completed my registration etc, and am waiting to be upgraded which said will take around 10 business days. The upgrade and the free weekend rental for platinum is great.
