VA7 BNE-LAX delayed 8rs+ Mon 2/9/13

Does anyone here know how or why VA7 BNE-LAX is delayed tomorrow (Monday 2nd Sept).

Scheduled: Dep 1115, Arr 0730
Revised: Dep 1905, Arrive 1520

Despite the delay and being Platinum, I can't change it because it's a business seat using points :-(

I am totally screwed now, miss connecting flights, lose a weeks pre-paid accom and no flights till the next day to get to my destination.

So I am now going to be about $2500 out of pocket, something which the travel insurer will try and dodge.
Do they offer any compensation at all or is it a case of suck it up and get over it mr platinum.

:-(

Is your connecting flight on the same booking?

Re: VA7 BNE-LAX delayed 8rs+ Mon 2/9/13

The inbound is VA8 meant to be operated by VH-VPF. It's currently in LAX... did someone back it into a fence?!

Re: VA7 BNE-LAX delayed 8rs+ Mon 2/9/13

I wonder if there's a spot available ex SYD on VA1?

Re: VA7 BNE-LAX delayed 8rs+ Mon 2/9/13

I have been in a similar situation. Went to the airport service desk day before flight pleaded my case and was put on VA1. It was oversold so they hinted to arrive early. They might be able to put you on Delta too.

That's really strange that the customer line won't do anything at all to help. I had flights booked per-mel-adl (the mel-adl was a separate booking as we had a change of plans) and the per-mel flight was going to be delayed by 6 hours, which meant we would miss the mel-adl flight and so miss a meeting in ADL. They ended up rerouting us per-adl in order to get there in time, and those were paid flights upgraded with points. Is it because it's international that they're being so unhelpful?

Why would you lose 1 weeks pre-paid accommodation if you're at most 1 day late?

How can a 8+ hours delay cause you to lose a weeks pre paid accommodation ?
No one accepts consequential loss's. Travel insurance is for that

I wonder if the OP has made the call to VA to make alternative arrangements or is he merely assuming he is screwed based on the stated on time running of the plane?

Re: VA7 BNE-LAX delayed 8rs+ Mon 2/9/13

I'm affected by this too. There's a group of us travelling in the pointy bit but we're paid pax. Will be seeking compensation and have searched what others have managed to get from other airlines in similar circumstances. Luckily we don't have connecting flights. When I got the alert from kayak's 'my trips' I rang to confirm the delay and was not offered re-route or compensation. A reroute would actually not interest me given it is a family trip.

Good point erkpod, JASON have you call VA?

Easy - take the fact the OP has a connecting flight to another city and the fact that there's no more flights to said city after VA's updated arrival time. As the OP will not make it to that city on that day, then the hotel will cancel the whole booking due to no show.

To guard against such scenarios, assuming pricing is the same, it is safer to book the first night as its own one-night booking and then book the remaining nights as a second booking. This will protect you for an up to 24 hour delay.

Good tip! I'll keep that in mind for my next trip.

VA 7 / VA 8 is not having a good run over the last few months .........would pay to keep that in mind when looking at booking options ........not a lot of depth in the VA777 ranks .......... Surely not another wing ding here .......???

Any thoughts on the knock on effects down the line

VA 8 out of LAX 22:55 Mon. Sept 2 arriving BNE 7:00 Wed. Sept 4 shows OK at this time .......as does VA 7 out on Wed - 11:15

???

It was only last week that VA23/24 were out of schedule by 12 hours... VA's reliability on the TPAC run hasn't been good lately.

Re: VA7 BNE-LAX delayed 8rs+ Mon 2/9/13

Any suggestions of what sort of compensation a paying J passenger might reasonably request for this delay? No connecting flight loss, no hotel loss, but quite annoying lost day of holiday, now have to take a taxi to BNE airport rather than getting a relative to drop us off.

Surely a phone call to the accommodation advising of your delayed flight would see them honour the remaining 6 nights?

Re: VA7 BNE-LAX delayed 8rs+ Mon 2/9/13

Tomorrows (Monday) VA7 has been delayed and will now not depart until 19.05 ( was 11.15) , arrival into LAX is scheduled for same day Monday 15.20. Assuming no further problems this should allow the a/c to turnaround & operate VA8 back to BNE on schedule at 23.55 on Monday night arriving into BNE on Wed 4th Sept as scheduled.

Re: VA7 BNE-LAX delayed 8rs+ Mon 2/9/13

A few examples of service slipping here, some family members are due to fly LAX-MEL next month but received a call last week advising their flight had been overbooked by 250pax!! They were offered some very unhelpful alternative routings or a flight out of LAX 2 days later, with accommodation provided in the meantime. Not ideal given work schedules.
