Hi All,

While I know that the "Live the Dream" finishes soon..... with the the "normal" rate looking to be as cheap as 51K MEL -Europe return (dymanic pricing and so point costsgo higher once the cheap seats are one. ie I have seen it at 98K one way) that makes a return to Europe at 102 K in J.

While I know from reviews it is not rated highly, it looks easy enough to get the A380 on the KL to Europe leg, and with very good availability, possibly comparable to Thai, this would seem to make it a good option.

Dummy bookings were allowing me to book 4 and even 6 in J . As such this could make ita good option for family groups.

So at 102K in J with similar fuelfines/taxes to SQ, it would seem to be a good option "value for points" -wise compared to SQ which is about 60% more points.

What are peoples opinions on flying in J to Europe with Malaysian?

The satay is very good! Service friendly and attentive, good choice of timings with the flights and seat ok (not everyone likes it, I found it a little too hard). I haven't flown SQ but would happily fly J with MH again

Thanks.

Yes the timings are good. In terms of actually enjoying J there is more daytime hours.

I have a sister who has never flown J, or been to Europe. so I am thinking of bumping up her points total so that she and her partner can do it. 204 K all up.

Just slightly more epensive than the current promo if you book 4 separate segments. But as a novice traveller it will be a lot easier on her and less stressful than if one flight is delayed as with a booked through ticket MAS would worry about connections rather than my sister.

That's lovely for you to do that for your sister...she will love it! There is always more availability on that daytime flight also than the night one...not sure why..personally I prefer it much more and by the time you arrive in London at 430pm...you can have an early night and start the day fresh.

Nighttime would have (presumably) higher premium loadings as business connections higher?

Agree it seems like excellent value. I'd be tempted. However, I have flown Malaysian to Europe in J, and I didn't think it was great (MEL-KUL-AMS rtn last year). In fact, of all the airlines that I have flown in J to Europe with, I'd probably rank Malaysian the lowest (others have been Qantas, VA, Air France, Etihad and Singapore, ranked in order of my increasing preference).

When I flew with MH, the seat wasn't fully flat, but I wasn't on a 380. I thought the service was ordinary - they seemed pretty reluctant to serve booze! Also, food was not great and it was one of those "how many times can you eat breakfast in one day" scenarios. Meal before landing in KUL on way back - breakfast. Only food in lounge during layover - breakfast. Meal after takeover on connecting flight - breakfast. The satay is good, but that was about it. The lounge in KUL is decent enough, but doesn't compare to SQ or EY lounges.

That said, obviously J on any full service airline is infinitely better than Y, so if you can get a good deal, as I said I'd be tempted. Just don't expect it to be as good as SQ.

They are a Muslim country so the booze thing may have some currency, I found the same thing on Emirates, used to serve booze in these small glasses. I had to help them out lets say.

Compared to QF, very different

have flown J with MAS many times but only Syd-KUL-SYD. service has always been excellent. have also flown J on Singapore, and all but A380 flights, MAS was much superior. OK, SG A380 is excellent, but have found there old planes to be a little flat. if haven't flown J before i think you'd find it excellent. a shame the website has been rooted for the last couple of weeks, and many people found that they weren't able to take advantage of the 50% redemption for points flights the last couple of days of the year.
i already have 3 X J seats booked for March, but made sure i did it way earlier than 31/12, as they are renown for having hiccups during the end of special periods. you always need to get in early.
l can live without the Satay too, BTW..............too many Satays............1st world problem!

Yes, Cruiser Elite, that was my way of being polite..............doesn't happen very often.........but it does describe MH website beautifully. i do find their phone service quite good if you are an Enrich member, if you're not you're not going to get far. ( i could've said ROOTED again, but didn't).

Been on MH J class to LHR a few times. Services are fine. Satay great - often end up eating too much and nothing else afterwards. Not as good as SQ or CX for sure but very happy to fly MH J anytime, esp if cheaper (usually is). Just beware of their code share flights with KLM to Europe though: KLM business class is significantly worse.

Just booked booked mel to han with MH for june even being a Enrich member still can not get onto manage my bookings i feel that i have to agree with KLN

have it on good authirity that phoning the call centre as a Enrich member will get you further than the website. not in the right frame of mind to try that myself yet tho

Looking at flying Syd-Kul-Syd in 2 months. V good fares available right now.
It looks even better with the QF offer to get double points for this (between 15th Feb and 15th Apr) now that MH is part of OW.

Just got back from my first trip on Malaysian in J since around 1998. Must say that their service was pretty good and a lot less mechanical and individual than what I have found on SQ. Going over I was on the 747 on the lower deck, at the lounge in Sydney they changed my seat because they reckoned my original seat (last row bottom deck) is cough and noisy so gave my the first row. Coming home was row 3 on the 777 which was only 1/4 full.

The seat is angled, not true flat, so no doubt some will deduct points for that. Meal ok, though I thought the meal choices KUL-SYD which was a 9am depature, 8pm arrival was a little odd. The main meal with all the choices was a so called brunch just after take off with a refreshment, no choices before arrival. I would have preferred a snack first and main meal at dinner time 2 hours out from arrival.

Lounges in KL are certainly showing their age and could do with a refresh.

But overall pretty good.

Now just hope my points and SC get credited soon. Still waiting for my outbound flight which was on the 19th Feb with return yesterday.

Still waiting on my 16th Feb flights!

FWIW the last 747 service left Sydney today.

Thanks for the update as I was looking at them as an option to go to KUL, rather then via SIN, good to have some feed back on them.

I am still waiting for my SIN-KUL J flight on the 18 of Feb and retunr on the 22nd to post, and have lodged a claim but no sign of them yet.

Are you sure you're not me? 17K aboard the 744 on the way over from SYD>KUL on Tuesday, and 2J aboard the 777 on the way back tonight. J Cabin lower deck was very empty on the way over. I have some photos up on my report so far here:http://www.australianfrequentflyer....avel-options-wp-g-sin-46436-3.html#post771603

Hmm we must be. Going over I was 17A (having originally been assigned 20B) but that was on the 19th Feb and on Friday I was in 3K so right behind you.

Still waiting on my 16th Feb flights!

MH122/123 is also changing from 777 to A330 but later this week. So for a few short days daily double 777's then a 777/A330 combo.
