Interesting article in the news about Oprah Winfrey’s car give away. It cost the company over 7million USD for everyone to receive a car. But what the show didn’t highlight was that each recipient had to pay up to $7000 in Government Taxes depending on their income. The audience were pre selected in terms of need for updating their car. They were hardly likely to afford stumping up that cash. But what a weird tax system they have in the US. They were offered cash in lieu of the car if they didn’t want to pay that tax.

Would be interesting to know the split of cash v car takers?

My first "proper" job (with any kind of payroll) was in a cafe in Albert Park. Cafe is long gone, but memories remain. It was a good job for a young student - customer service, making coffee, light kitchen duties, waiting tables, dishes, etc. I later moved onto restaurants / bars and nightclubs while studying at university.

Many years later, this is probably why I am one of those people who respects hospitality workers and uses the P and T words.

I also did a stint at that iconic Australian supermarket, Safeway (of course it is now called Woolworths, and has gone through several uniform changes).

You haven't changed much over the years. :)
Oh nice work. :)

Updating MrP's never ending journey in NZ. He has just arrived in Rotorua, approx 30 hours after he started and which comprises of 4 plane flights and a four hour trip in a mini van. The Hotel had been made aware of the issues and has upgraded him to the Royal Suite and which consists of 12 person dining room, lounge room, valet kitchen, three bedrooms and huge spa. I told him to collect the bath products.

***Reporter :Fergus Hunter - I've just come across a delightfully colourful defence of Barnaby Joyce from his Country Party ( AKA the Nationals ) colleague Senator Barry O'Sullivan.
"I don't want to lose one of the best politicians we've had in my lifetime. Are you going to shoot your best horse because he jumped the fence and was found in the neighbour's paddock?"
That's one way of putting it. ***

I put the Country Party AKA the National bit in there as it sounds just like the 1960s !!!

Pushka, glad he finally made it!

Mrs DrRon, youre not wrong. I was reading today that he didnt break any rules in hiring her because she wasnt technically a "partner", just someone hes cough*ing on the side who he happened to knock up.

The boys club is obviously still in effect.

Sexism alive and well on AFF ( and everywhere else).. it's all Barnaby's fault

No but your neighbors will have already shot the horse I would expect.

Hypocrisy rules in the NP.

I would suggest not only political parties, in many, many other spheres too. But, I do think political points should be discouraged as we have done here in the past.

Not just the NP

From where I’m sitting it seems that it rules in ALL of our political party’s.

I was specifically talking about the NP and LP's appalling behaviour wrt Julia Gillard and Sheryl Kernot.
I was specifically talking about the appalling behaviour of running on credentials of strong family values and lack of support for women re Gardasil and other actions. Notwithstanding Barnaby's 'lecture' on the person in questions was not his 'partner' at the time, to the poorer members of society where he says he 'prefers' to live in Armadale because the housing is cheaper, when in fact he's been 'given' an apartment and has had tax payers beef it up for him

I think that all colour politicians these days are self serving and hypocritical. Can’t think of anything good to say about any of them and it’s just an historical point as to which colour is caught out at the time. A pox on all of them I say.

And I’ve just had some bad news about a friends son and so I am angry and sad.

Opposition had a hard enough time with Gillard having a hairdresser boyfriend. Can you imagine the meltdown if she was getting funky with a young stud on the payroll?

Im OK with Joyce being hauled over the coals because of the bulls***t he said over same sex marriage and being holier than the homos that dared to not marry his precious daughters (still trying to get my head around how same sex marriage would impact negatively on his daughters).

ie: "We know that the best protection for those girls is that they get themselves into a secure relationship with a loving husband," he said, "and I want that to happen for them. I don't want any legislator to take that right away from me."

Seems I have opened a little can of worms here so to finish it off. I can, but won’t, quote examples that run the other way.

There are plenty in both directions if people take off their blinkers and actually sit and look at them.

No and you should not. You can't escape the issue by trying to blame others. Don't be a Mathias and just give a political answer. Address the specific question of the behaviour of the soon to be Acting PM.

Sadly he’s not a bus sleeper. He will be in his business suit. Meant to be working right now not travelling. Not sure how we can bill the client either.

If nothing else it might identify that your procedures manual needs to list such a scenario and how you will assess/process it in the future?
