Eerily similar to the spread in Melbourne as covid spreads into several schools in Sydney;

Three Western Sydney schools close after students test positive for coronavirus

Three Catholic schools in Western Sydney have been closed for cleaning after four students tested positive for coronavirus.

That’s a bit alarmist.

There is a link from these cases is back to Thai Rock and the Maronite Catholic Church.

Hoepfully I’m proven right (on it being alarmist)

More worshippers warned after woman tests positive to COVID-19 after attending several funeral, church services

Health authorities are urging hundreds of worshippers and funeral attendees to watch for COVID-19 symptoms after a woman who attended a number of Catholic services in Sydney's south west tested positive to the virus.

NSW Health said those who attended the following services over a four-day period should self-isolate and get tested immediately if they develop symptoms.
  • St Brendan's Catholic Church Bankstown
  • Ausia Funeral Services at Fairfield East
  • Funeral service at St Brendan's Catholic Church, Bankstown
  • Burial service at St John of God Lawn at Rookwood Cemetery
  • Our Lady of Mt Carmel Catholic Church at Mt Pritchard

Which bit is alarmist? It has been pretty well standard practice that if a school has a CV19 Case that it gets closed for deep cleaning.

After reports in VIC, NSW and QLD quarantine hotels, also problems in WA needing fixing

ADF personnel brought into WA's quarantine hotels after whistleblowers sound alarm

ADF personnel brought into WA's quarantine hotels after whistleblowers sound alarm
Note that NSW, Qld and WA have now had their quarantine intake substantially reduced. I wonder why? It's certainly not because they've run out of people to repatriate. It's surely a complete coincidence that they can now use this period to address any outstanding risk management issues of their own. ;)

As I said previously, I understand SA has managed hotel quarantine reasonably well...

15 today, 6 in overseas arrivals quarantine.

The 15 new cases are:
- Eight are associated with the Thai Rock restaurant cluster.
- One case is under investigation.
- Six are returned travellers in hotel quarantine

By my count since Crossroads Hotel occurring up to 14 were announced under investigation for not being immediately linked to a known case. Hopefully most of those announced as under investigation has been resolved by finding the link.

Edit: if my understanding is correct, Thai Rock cluster is now 60, surpassing the Crossroads Hotel cluster of 56.

Can we deduce that she's a funeral director or something like that?

That's right. I don't know why the news reports (or the health department) don't just reveal the person's job nature.
I guess people’s privacy.....

For Thai Rock, there was a staff member but with the cluster so large I’m curious was it in the kitchen or front of house staff.

Crossroads Hotel seems to be one person infecting 14 people at the same dining time, including one staff who presumably infected another customer two days later.

Age data has now been updated for Victoria (previous detailed age split was as of 15 July).

Cases in last 7 days:

Cases in last 7 days in 70+ is now a massive 11.6%

85+ is 5.5% (This trending up as previous 24 hours 6.3 % )
This is obviously not good news in terms of possible future mortalities.

Sutton confirmed what we already knew, which is that cases in aged care facilities and abattoirs are a large proportion of new daily cases at present in Victoria.

For reference, from 2016 census data (admittedly could be a little out of date), I've added the proportion of population in that age group. Interesting and not surprising, those under 15 and aged 50-79 under represented in new cases, those aged 20-39 and >85 are over-represented in new cases. Other age groups roughly in proportion with their age profile.

... We have booked a direct flight from Brisbane to Adelaide in August but if that gets re routed into Melbourne then we cannot get home!
QF re-routing to MEL, instead of BNE-ADL direct. How often does this happen? Is it a regular occurrence (e.g., fog in ADL)?

Hopefully never! 😂. I do believe in Murphy’s law though and plan for contingency. And SA Police has this stupid notion that being in an airport for transit is the same as staying in a place overnight.
