.... We have booked a direct flight from Brisbane to Adelaide in August but if that gets re routed into Melbourne then we cannot get home!
Just stay in QLD a bit longer if need be, and wait for a direct flight. I’m sure that QF will look after you. 😀

Edit: Adelaide is nothing special in August, from memory. 😉

We do need to get back to work but I do see there is another flight the next morning in case it all goes to carp. Of course plenty of flights via Sydney (=14 days iso) and Melbourne (= infinity days camping at the Qantas Club in Tulla)

So of the Victorian extra cases today:
267 in Metro Melbourne
0 in Mitchell Shire
26 in Regional Victoria (17 in Colac Otway, 6 in Geelong, 1 each in Macedon Ranges, Horsham, South Gippsland and Mount Alexander, 1 less in Wangaratta).

Do feel a bit sorry for residents of Mitchell shire, with now only 11 active cases - less than all the Metro LGA's, Geelong and Colac, and same number as Ballarat).

New cases in 5 new aged care facities. So the spread in this sector continues :(

I'm curious about the spread in both aged care facilities and abbatoirs. It was not a surprise that these are both high risk. Maybe it is simply impossible to keep the virus out of these sorts of facilities, or maybe measures taken to prevent spread were inadequate.

Do feel a bit sorry for residents of Mitchell shire, with now only 11 active cases - less than all the Metro LGA's, Geelong and Colac, and same number as Ballarat).

Though,
Mitchell has 2.5 active cases per 10,000 people.
Greater Geelong has 1.2 active cases per 10,000 people.
Cola Otway has 20.5 active cases per 10,000 people. But these are all in the abattoir cluster ( Note 43 cases have been linked to Australian Lamb Company in Colac. This is every case in the LGA )
Ballarat has 1.1 active cases per 10,000 people.

I am in Monash which is 2.1 cases per 10,000 people.

So Mitchell Shire has a higher active case rate than many including other LGA's both with restrictions and without.

If community spread is about then it is likely that as cases can then occur anywhere that yes some would get infected, just as anyone can get infected. Asymptomatic seems to be in the minority but can occur, and certainly pre-symptomatic spread can easily occur.

However to turn into large cluster would indicate that with many, or if not all, that various control measures were not really in place or were poorly done.
I suspect too that some of the lowly paid workers at these establishments may have been amongst those who waited to get tested, did not test and/or did not isolate.

Abattoirs as they have always operated have from reports been in ways that there is close contact and other factors that make Covid 19 spread. How much some practices altered how they operate would be interesting to know. Then apart from the working hours themselves, workers are quite likely to mix and socialise. This in itself could be the problem and particularly at abattoirs. Remember that many of the infected at these locations could have been when gatherings were still allowed. At Colac as was not a restricted LGA this would have been the case till the first positive tests started happening.

LGA's in Vic with new cases today outside of restricted LGA's.

Greater Geelong 6
Colac Otway 17 ( Note 43 cases have been linked to Australian Lamb Company in Colac. This is every case in the LGA )
Macedon Ranges 1
South Gipplsand 1
Horsham 1
Mount Alexander 1

So outside of Colac, the spread is less in non-restricted LGA's.

The further easing of restrictions in W.A, to remove capacity caps at sporting events and large venues, has again been postponed. That seems to be a pretty sensible decision.

It has also been announced that all persons that flew into W.A from Victoria during the month of July have now been located and tested with no new infections found.

Don't worry, I've got a spare room. ;)
We may be there for a verrrryyy long time! Got some masks?

So a South Australian cant return home, even with quarantine, but SA will continue to repatriate Australians from overseas in Adelaide. On what freaking planet is that ok? I do agree we should be bringing back repatriated Aussies btw, as long as our own residents have the same rights!

Didn't you know, being in Victoria is much higher risk than being in the US or UK

I pity those doing straddling Sunraysia/Riverland and Nelson/Mt Gambier. In fact I'm pretty sure there are farmers whose property straddles the border, with paddocks on both sides!

Tas closed to other EasternStates And Territories (Vic, NSW, ACT and Qld)

from ABC Covid live blog

Tasmania is going to open their borders ... but only to NT, SA and WA

From August 7, travellers from South Australia, the Northern Territory and Western Australia will be able to enter the Apple Isle using its Good To Go travel registration system.

There will be mandatory health checks for all passenger arrivals, and anyone with symptoms will have to take a mandatory COVID-19 test at the airport or sea port or entry.

Refusal of a test will mean mandatory hotel quarantine for 14 days or travellers will be sent home on the next flight.

From July 31 there will also be mandatory testing of essential workers entering the state.

Premier Peter Gutwein said: "Tasmania overall appears to be cautiously confident in terms of where we stand at the moment."

He also said he couldn't see the border opening with Victoria "anytime soon".

On Queensland, NSW and the ACT, Mr Gutwein was taking a "position of caution".

Cue to Anna choking on her cake ‘What’s wrong with us?!?!’ 😂

Agree, and that’s the only flaw in the Vic review.

They will be comparing against the ideal, perfection, policy, etc. not other quarantine settings as far as I’m aware based on reporting.

They are on a hiding to nothing.

True - but as long as they can get to the bottom of what was broken and fix it, it will still be a worthwhile result. I am sure other states will takes notes!

Yes, so I hear. But the issue I have is that the SA Police regard a transit of the minimum time at the Tulla airport is considered the same as a visit! I dont want to visit there but i can see a situation where i might get on a flight that is redirected there because that is murphys law.

We hope to be in Cairns and booked Jetstar direct because Qld doesnt count transit as a visit in case JQ cancels, and then cancelled JQ direct back from Cairns because a transit in Syd or Mel would be impossible for us. We rebooked Cairns - Bne - Adl on Qantas.

Eerily similar to the spread in Melbourne as covid spreads into several schools in Sydney;

Three Western Sydney schools close after students test positive for coronavirus

Three Catholic schools in Western Sydney have been closed for cleaning after four students tested positive for coronavirus.
