Yes there’s a Notam released for Ukrainian airspace but I don’t think QF usually flies that south nowadays.

Highly unlikely...but if the last two years have taught us anything.....

Could well make people more jittery about booking travel to Europe though, especially eastern Europe.

The Russian areas to the east of Ukraine such as the Rostov on Don FIR are closed due to the Russian military activities so you really have to go west of Ukraine now.

Note that the path to the east of Ukraine is also closed by Russia… very little moving over those FIRs… you have a long long divert to stay out of the closed airspace.

From a safety perspective the route is well north of any hostilities, i wouldn't be concerned.

The principle of an Australian airline paying Russian ATC fees is another story.

So we enter Russian airspace and all of a sudden a MiG is inviting you to land at an airbase. No thanks.

A bit of perspective I think is helpful. It is no more or less safe than it was 24 hours ago (i.e. it's safe).

Its about principles to deal even in minimal with dictatorship regime that completely lost its mind.
