AA Status Run - Nice little earner

Crum has cracked the less than USD1.00 / SC Golden Jackpot. :shock: Just confirmed his latest SC run. 960 SCs for USD931.68 (USD0.975 / SC). 12 sectors, 10 in F and 2 in J. :D Way to go Crum. :mrgreen:

While not as good as Crum's record, I have a run from HNL that earns 1,140 SCs for USD1,350.85 (USD1.18 / SC). J* has very good prices to HNL. Total SCs (from SYD) are 1,280. Not bad for a weeks flying for around $2.5k.

(Serfty?) Not sure if this is the right place to post, but if anyone wants a personal demo, I'll be in the BNE Dom. J Lounge at about 5pm on 21st December, and the SYD Int. FLounge at about 10am on 15th Jan. Will have family so can't guest.
 
If I might ask two basic questions please:

- flying domestic F in AA on an AA booking counts as F and not J travel for QF status credit purposes?

- how do you calculate which mileage band of the QF status table an AA flight falls into? Is there a tool that does this directly or do you have to calculate the distance between the locations in miles using a generic distance tool?

F P and A classes when booked as revenue tickets on AA earn as First Class, along with Status and COS bonus.

The table tells you the SCs earned by distance bands but do we know how QF calculates distance between US locations for SC purposes? For example, if I want to fly LAX to DFW and I google for distance calculators and use them I get results in the range of about 1215 to 1235 miles.

On this basis I should I be confident that the flight falls into band 3? Or is there a definitive calculator somewhere that AA or QF use?

It would seem desirable to take flights that just fall into a band if possible.

Getting the best out of both worlds; 1. might have to book a F Lounge run 2. and learn more juicy F runs :lol:
 
Cannot post link (iPhone) but google "mileagemonkey" and the first page found contains a SC calculator tool. Use the One World Explorer validator enter route eg LAX-DFW-ORD-MIA tick the "ignore errors" box and at the bottom of the page the QF SC's come up per sector.
Also if you have an iPhone Tuppaware has created a Frequent Flyer app which is a more sophisticated version

I don't think what a few AFFs are doing in Australia will cause AA to remove YUPP fares. There are many more yank based FFer talk forums that discuss how to do this to get the lowest $ / mile routings. Here is the HNL - PTY quick run I did. Please note it is not optimised for min O/Ns nor for lowest $/SC cost:

I suspect there are better routings and lower $/SC runs available. I feel HNL is a better place to start and end the run than mid to north west coast US cities.

One way raw miles and SC earns are:

Hnl-Lax (F) = 2,556 miles for 150 SCs
Lax-Las (F) = 236 miles for 60 SCs
Las-Dfw (F) = 1,055 miles for 90 SCs
Dfw-Msp (F) = 852 miles for 90 SCs
Msp-Mia (F) = 1,501 miles = 120 Scs
Mia-Pty (J) = 1,151 miles for 60 SCs.

Total SCs are 1,140, total miles are worth 14,702 QF points. Platinum 100% bonus will boost that to 29,404 points. AA 50% cabin bonus will further boost points to 36,755.

A J* Syd-Hnl rtn in Starter + points, no check-in baggage will cost around AUD1,200 and earn 140 SCs plus 20,296 points for a WP.

Total cost would then be around AUD$2,500 and earn 1,280 SC plus 57,051 points for a WP.

The trick is to just lob into Zone 3 IMHO, if you can't do two Zone 2's for the same $$$
 
Thats fantastic...thanks for your help! I am experimenting away. Just a little question. Do I get into trouble for not taking all the connecting flights. Let say. I flew only 2 of the 3 legs...is there a penalty?

I did this recently - managed to squeeze in 6 segments - but very date/season dependent. no overnights, unless u count sleeping on the plane an overnight! :rolleyes:

Just curious as to what the difference is with selecting "Business Class & higher with restrictions" vs "First/Premium with restrictions" as I always have selected the "business" option as per advice I've read on AFF?
