QP/JL Wireless Access problems [Fixed Oct 2011]

In the MEL domestic J Lounge at the moment and it looks like they have switched over to Optus as well. The speed is quite remarkable - 30Mbit/s. Even faster than what I have noticed in the BNE J lounge.

I am downloading a movie from youtube at the moment and the speed is fluctuating between 2 to 3 megabytes/s.

Looks like you are using Apple or Unix traceroute. I used windows tracert and it worked ok. I think Optus might be blocking the UDP port that Unix traceroute uses. Windows tracert uses a different mechanism than Unix traceroute. Try using traceroute with the -I option to use this different way and it probably will work for you.

Anyway these are the traceroutes I got from the BNE J lounge.

>tracert www.google.com

I haven't the faintest idea what you are 'talking" about, if indeed that is what you are doing in a sort of ethereal way.

Bottom line: does it work at MEL BNE PER domestic QCLUB lounge, on an iPad or iPhone?

It hasn't for me much at all over the past twelve months.

I usually end up turning the wifi off and using my Telstra 3G (which I suspect, being a conspiracy theorist myself, is the idea all along!!

So to put it in simple terms. During December Qantas has switched to Optus for wireless internet access in some of its domestic and international lounges (BNE, SYD, ADL, MEL - maybe others as well by now) in Australia. Not only does it work well. It is about the best performance of any wireless network I have seen anywhere. Quite a turn around from the beginning of the year. Suggest you give it a try.

Is it just me or has the Wifi in the MEL, ADL and SYD QPs/J Lounges been very slow lately? This weekend, I couldn't even open Gmail. Maybe they have blocked certain ports but it certainly has been significantly slower than when Optus took over and improved the service..

I got 18mbit/s in the syd j lounge on Friday arvo and actual usability was excellent.
