Re: Qantas domestic Lounges pathetic wifi

I can't remember (and don't want to go back to see) who posted that it was moving to Optus, but this fact was straight up confirmed yesterday at the QFF Lunch.

Full roll-out of Optus services to lounges expected to be completed before end of Q1 2012.

You can always rely on qantas to act quickly.....

Re: Qantas domestic Lounges pathetic wifi

In the MEL J lounge ths morning and the wifi is absolutely flying. I've never seen it run so fast ever. Luckily I was sitting down!

It's been like that since mid last month. (Will reported it on the 12th, see post #155)

I observed it for the first time on the 29th.

There is no longer any hot-spot logo to 'click'. It just goes straight in. :D

Did you have to pay the $5.00 ? I ask because the last time I tried it there I did. However when I was in the QP yesterday in ADL, it was free!

There has never been a charge for QP wi-fi. Are you sure you connected to the right network?

pshepvic, I have had this happen to me in the SYD J Lounge. The WiFi was pathetic (non existent), and up pops a 'Broadband for $5 ad'.

That would be for a public wi-fi in the airport terminal. The QP/J-lounge wi-fi (at least until the recent notification that it would be changing to Optus) has always been run by Telstra and has always been free.

Probably. But it's annoying that the ad pops up right when the free lounge WiFi is below turtle speed.

Re: Qantas domestic Lounges pathetic wifi

I have found the lounge WiFi incredibly hard to connect to but once connected not too slow. It will be interesting to see how the switch to Optus performs...

Yes!! No splash screen either.

Actually, before April 2007 the QP WiFi as provided by Telstra was indeed a paid service.

Indeed it was, it wasn't until someone (maybe The Australian?) sponsored it that it became free.

It was The Australian first.. then several other have followed..

Was that in all lounges? I never paid for wi-fi but was first a QP member back in 2004 and recall using it without paying back then ... maybe I managed to find some other free network though!

I believe so, I've been a QP member since 1994 and when WiFi was introduced I was travelling through QP's almost weekly.

Yes i certainly remember having to pay for it. or you could use a bigpond wifi logon. that what i used to use.

Improved wirless access in J Lounge

The wireless access at the SYD J Lounge seems to have improved exponentially over the last few weeks. I'm able to connect to the wireless access point without acknowledging the T&C's either.

I tried a variety of connection methods, ssl vpn, ipsec vpn and they connected immediately. I will try the access at the MEL J Lounge tonight.

Big thumbs up Qantas.

Yep, BIG improvement ... happened sometime before in mid October (post #155).

They still haven't changed ISP's - SSID is still Telstra and IP address range is with Telstra.
