It's today's Diner selection in the SYD J Lounge.

Unlike most other "free" or buffet tacos I've had before, the meat component of this one actually isn't bland (of course, no significant spicing, but still tasty).

A lot better than the Mexican bean mix that VA had out during their little sortie of evening Cantinas.

Its an Aussie thing :p

Don't get me wrong. I love tacos, and Mexican food in general. Just don't get the hard shell fascination.

I was speaking to one of the Ansett staff who had been with Ansett since the days of Reg. She is still so sad, and angry about its demise. Not angry with Ansett the brand, just angry.

I guess they could've offered soft tortillas, too. So yeah, no idea why they went for the hard ones.

Reminds me of that Old El Paso ad where they were having the exact "debate" between hard and soft tacos. Of course, the product in question was then a new SKU for taco shells which were half hard and half soft shells.

I don't understand Mexican food. Isn't it just a difference in the way it's folded?

I have trouble myself. From what I can gather - yes, the way it's folded, whether the shell / wrap / chip is made with flour or corn, and how it is finished (baked, stewed, fried)...

I've probably just offended a whole ton of Mexicans right there.

I love proper soft tortilla tacos, but I also have a soft spot for the Aussie mince meat hard shell version.

That's like saying all Asian food is the same. Or that Australians only eat bland meat and veg. Or the only difference in Italian food is the type of pasta.

I suspect most Australians only exposure to Mexican food is via bland Tex-Mex.

Agreed. Even the "explosion" in Mexican food places all over Australia doesn't really show off much. I'll claim ignorance.

LOL Asian food being all the same - it's funny because it's almost true! Ever got a flyer for a Chinese / Asian local place that says to order an item, you just pick the meat and then the sauce style you want? Real Asian food isn't easy to find.

Italian food gets stereotyped much in the same way... along with the fact that the Western world has also completely corrupted the original idea of the pizza.

Well I've been to Mexico and also to a couple of Mexican restaurants one in Australia and the other one in Asia and still hold that opinion. One dabbled in the savoury chocolate thing.

The new app is still doing that incorrect attribution thing.

The updated Android app now shows the author attribution in the quotation, and it seems to point correctly too, with original post link available. The only thing is cosmetic and that the program hasn't quite got the name "quoting" correct, so every name is surrounded with " rather than a quote character, or nothing.

Mole is delicious. :D

I don't really care whether you like the food or not. The fact is that Mexican cuisine is far more complex than you seem to give credit for.

Agreed. It's hard to find "real" food in this country.

Grr. The new app is still crashing on quoting.

With regards to Mexican food I can only describe my experience. And I'm not a fan. Maybe I exaggerated the folding a little :p but the point remains I didn't enjoy what I experienced and that's all I can call.

That's fair. Everyone has different tastes.

I've always thought the rule "between the age of 4 and 17" meant under 18 years of age:confused:

Families

Qantas Lounges welcome you when travelling together with your family. In addition to your normal guest allowance you may also bring up to two children, between ages 4 and 17, into lounges operated by Qantas. Children aged 3 years or under are not counted as guests for the purpose of determining the number of guests of the member. If you are travelling with more than two children, the Qantas lounge manager will try to accommodate them, subject to reviewing the space available in the lounge.
Note :
Qantas Lounges

  • Children of Qantas Club members aged 18 years and over are counted as a guest of a member if they don't have their own membership.
  • The service of alcohol to anyone under the age of 18 years (21 years for USA) is not permitted.
  • Children under the age of 18 years must be accompanied by an adult when visiting any lounge, except in the United States of America, where all persons under the age of 21 years must be accompanied by a person aged 21 years or older.

That does say Qantas lounge though and I think the OP was in an AA lounge?

So true... there's nothing quite so good as a margherita pizza in Napoli! 3 EUR, massive and massively tasty :D

If it was an AA lounge in LAX only I child allowed no matter what the ages are :(
