Hi everyone,

I have visited 4 restaurants that were supposedly awarding 3 points per $1 spent. 3 of those restaurants refused to give me points either because their "machine was broken", "we do not have machine", or "our machine is not working today".

Yet, 2 of those 3 restaurants that failed to give me points were advertising the fact that you can "earn Qantas points here".

I have already contacted Qantas about 2 of those restaurants, and they awarded me points after I faxed them my receipts. Today, after another restaurant refused to honour my QFF card, I am really starting to lose my patience. The phone calls, faxes, stress, and time surely cost more than the points that would usually be awarded.

I am thinking of writing them a letter of complaint about this.

Any comments?

Cheers,
lenyJUL

re: Qantas Restaurants that DO or DO NOT award points

That's funny. I dined at a restaurant which stated when I went to pay my bill "Machine not working" - so I kept the receipt and had the manager write and sign on it that points were still owing.

I e-mailed Qantas and was told nothing could be done about it, so I have just kept the receipt in the back of my wallet and have since attempted to return to the restaurant once to have the points issued, however, received the same answer - "machine not working"

Maybe it'd be easier if I did as you did leny and just call QFF and explain the issue and fax the receipt.

Other than this one restaurant (which is 2 hours from where I live) I have dined at about another 5-6 and have had no problems.

re: Qantas Restaurants that DO or DO NOT award points

I have just gone ahead and sent an angry email, so I hope that I get some justice! Qantas need to be hit hard enough to do something about this troubled feature of QFF.

Personally, I'd say don't give up on getting your points. There are obviously some serious flaws in the system, and the restaurants are taking advantage of this free marketing my advertising themselves on the websites, and having stickers in the window and other material that promotes their participation in the QFF program.

Wake up, Qantas and non-compliant restaurants. We're coming to get ya. :p

The "machine broken" is an interesting one. My favourite Sushi bar in Sydney now accepts FF cards. It is the same machine as they use for the Credit card payments. so they swipe it once for the payment and then swipe my QFF card for the points. 3 times, and 3 time points have posted about 8 days later.

I'd say it is the restaurant claiming it isn't working as they are effectively paying for those points.

Aaah so that's how it's meant to work.

I went to my first restaurant that offers QFF points on the bill and even the manager had no idea of how to credit the points.

I raised the matter with QFF the next business day and whilst they said that "it was not possible for them (QFF) to retrospectively give me the points", the phone attendant sent the details off to the relevant section in QFF for investigation and follow-up to follow (the call was made two days ago now).

The lady at QFF said "they were just meant to swipe the card in [the] machine". She did not know what kind of machine she was talking about, but it seems that the credit card machine is the go. FWIW the manager swiped my QFF card in the machine and it just said 'card unknown'. I'm not sure whether he had to do the swipe of the card after typing in a few instructions or what not; hey, what would I know, it's my first time doing this (it was also the restaurant's first time a customer had asked for this) and I don't know how it works.....

re: Qantas Restaurants that DO or DO NOT award points

Any reason why none of the above posters are naming the restaurants where they are having troubles?

Yes my experiences have been the same. They swipe your QFF card through the CC machine and press a rewards/loyalty button vs charge button (or it could be the other way around) and then enter in the number of points that they are awarding you.

You then should get a little receipt for the points; like you would when paying via CC.

re: Qantas Restaurants that DO or DO NOT award points

If you are seeing restaurants being proactive in not awarding points, thereby reducing the costs while still getting the benefit of the advertising I see no issue in naming them!

re: Qantas Restaurants that DO or DO NOT award points

It's interesting.

One of our regular haunts is absolutely superb with posting points, and the manager regularly eggs us on about our points madness. A couple of others we've been to are also pretty good. Have only had one that's refused (on the basis that we were downstairs and not in the 'restaurant'), but otherwise it's been fine.

I've heard of places still advertising (and still on the QFF restaurants site) that simply refuse and say they no longer do it. I find that pretty unacceptable (and subsequently don't bother going to those places).

Sounds just like what Travelex does when you purchase currency - after the transaction they swipe your QFF card through and credit the points - mind you, if often takes up to a week to come through. Should be simple enough!

Well, OK.

Restaurant was Taj Mahal, an Indian restaurant on Brunswick Street in New Farm, QLD.

Manager was earnestly nice but he did not have a clue how to process the points. A communication breakdown between him and QF obviously (he said he'd gotten a letter from QF, but "that was it").

Was going to eat there tonight because of the FF points....! Is there somewhere in Brisbane that does post points without issues?

re: Qantas Restaurants that DO or DO NOT award points

I had the same problem after I dined at a restaurant in Sydney.....BAYBLU SEAFOOD which is at Blakehurst. I'm happy to name and shame them for all the trouble I had to go to to eventually get my points.

The restaurant bill totalled $205.00 so the points earn was considerable. When we paid and presented my QFF card the Manager said he did not know how to allocate the QFF points to my account. I suggested that he swipe my card into his machine, however he said he didn't know what he was 'machine' I was talking about. I felt at the time I was duped but thought I would just send in my receipt to QFF as I have done in the past when points from hotel stays are not allocated.

Anyway, I sent my receipt off along with a very pertinent letter off to QFF customer service advising them of the trouble I had with BAYBLU and the Manager.

I got a call from QFF and I was advised that I had to go back to the restaurant and get them to swipe my card. I was annoyed with that response, as I explained to the QFF customer service lady that if they didn't 'know' how to allocate the points at the time of my dining there, what difference would going back there make, unless of course someone from Qantas had taken the trouble to phone the restaurant and had given the Manager training on how to allocate QFF to their patrons who are eligible.

The QFF CS lady then relented and said she will allocate the points from her end. The points were then allocated about 5 days later.

My advise, don't dine there and expect to get any QFF points without having to fight for them.

Decided not to goto Taj Mahal tonight because of this post. Instead I went to Tandoori Place at Albion instead. But after the meal, they gave the "machine not working" excuse.

NOT HAPPY

I have been there recently too - and was given the same excuse. Only went there because they offered QF points.

Sounds very shady.

I called that place one time to ask them about QFF points, and they said they hadn't got the process ready yet. So I didn't go.

I called Taj Mahal in advance and confirmed that one could earn QFF points there, so I was rather disappointed when at the end of the night when they had no idea of how to process the points.

re: Qantas Restaurants that DO or DO NOT award points

Has anyone reported this to Consumer Affairs / fair trading department in the relevant state? This is reading more and more like false advertising...

Who would you report though, it’s hardly QF’s fault that the restaurants don’t train their staff/keep their machines in working order?

As previously posted in another thread, I’ve only been to one Indian chain that offered points and they posted within a couple weeks, everything worked perfectly, other than the fact that the restaurant was dead! :p
