re: Qantas Restaurants that DO or DO NOT award points

My experiences so far:

Good with points:
Mount Coot-tha Summit!!! - The little book they put your bill in even has two pockets/slots; one for your credit card, and one for your frequent flyer card - lovely!

AVOID:
Tandoori Place Albion
Golden Palace Chinese Restaurant
Mandarin Palace

Who would you report though, it’s hardly QF’s fault that the restaurants don’t train their staff/keep their machines in working order?

Report the incident as it happened - it's up to the department to investigate. QF's branding is all over it and they are promoting the offer, so they are in part responsible for it.

Surely not that fine place that was "award winning" before it had even opened according to the signage.

Qantas should be resposnible for ensuring that anything they are promoting is being adhered to under the conditions of their contract with the establishment. If an establishment can't get its act together, then they should go their separate ways, and be removed from the program. It is up to Qantas to ensure that the contracts they have are being complied with.

Qantas Restaurants NOT awarding points

Sounds like I have some places to eat next time I'm in Brisbane. ;) do you think the machine would suddenly start to work if I refused to pay until they gave me my points?

Or alternatively, after paying by credit card, and they refuse (or can't) give you the points, mention disputing the charge with your bank as you have not received what you paid for (meal with points).

If we are naming then:

Positive!

UMI in Sydney.. Was absolutely no trouble at all to run through my QFF card, points posted a week later. Have done this 3 times already. It's a popular place of mine as it is close to the hotel and they do great Sushi.

Cheers,

Nick

There are 2 issues at play here:

(1) When the restaurants "give" you Qantas points they have to pay Qantas money. Therefore, it is in their interest if the "machine isn't working" or "manager doesn't know what to do" or whatever the excuse is.

(2) Earlier this year Qantas revamped the whole Qantas Frequent Flyer Service Centre. Instead of processing claims themselves, they now push back to the service provider eg hotel. Qantas used to take the details from you and then chase up the supplier for the points and credit them to your account. This is no longer the case - the Qantas department that did this is now much smaller.

Again, the same issues are at play when you go back to the hotel (or whatever) - points is money for them so it is not exactly in their financial interest to "give" you Qantas points.

I have got around the unwillingness of the Qantas Frequent Flyer Service Centre to help by writing to them.

A clear letter together with photocopies of receipts, boarding passes, credit card statements - all of the "evidence that you have" and posted (the old fashioned way with a stamp) to:

Qantas Frequent Flyer Service Centre
GPO BOX 4357
MELBOURNE VIC 3001.

Whilst it can take some time, this method always gets me a result. Qantas logs all incoming mail, then scans it and then it is dealt with by somebody - you can't simply be fobbed off by a 3rd party contractor call centre staff member.

Visited Southern Spice Indian Cuisine in Upper Mount Gravatt for lunch today.

Absolutely no problems with getting points. :)

re: Qantas Restaurants that DO or DO NOT award points

Vivo Cafe in Sydney has been great so far - all points credited within 4 days and they even gave me a receipt after swiping my QFF card for the points.

I think you’re meant to get a second receipt, I did too.

I had a problem at the restaurant I regularly dine at that they didn't accept to take my Qantas card because I am using an Entertainment Book voucher. I can't find it anywhere where there is a rule about discounted dining not accepted to get points - do the restaurants have to pay Qantas for them to be part of the points network?

Yes they do. just like Woolworths pay when you use your everyday rewards card.

re: Qantas Restaurants that DO or DO NOT award points

I think it is common practice at restaurants where you use an Entertainment book voucher or card, that you don't get the opportunity to earn extra points such as Qantas.
For example at Crown restaurants if you use the Entertainment Book card, you don't earn Crown points.
May not be fair or correct but I think this is the reason.

re: Qantas Restaurants that DO or DO NOT award points

I gave feedback through qantas.com about machines 'not working' and received a phone call today thanking me for informing them. The call seemed genuine but who knows that will become of it.

Here's an idea QF: Charge merchants a dispute fee where for each customer complaint the restraunt is penalized.

Any other restruants in Brisbane giving points? Need a new spot to visit next week

re: Qantas Restaurants that DO or DO NOT award points

We also had problems at MANDARIN PALACE in the Valley (Brisbane). They said to send the receipt to QF as the "machine wasn't working". I did that and QF said they can't allocate from there end - I have to go back to the restaurant. I'll try that but I'm not holding my breath. Good to hear that QF have actually ended up allocating for at least one person. I'll keep that in mind if I have to get back in touch with them!

On a positive note, the Spanish Tapas Bar in the Valley did swipe my FF card and the points went through no problems. Decent restaurant too, I might add.

It was for this reason that I thought the whole restaurant's points thing was a bad idea. It seems to me that the restaurant business is hard and pretty much a hand to mouth type of business. Sure they can make decent money but I also suspect they can also being going very badly. Plus they also probably don't really have a day to day view of how they are going. So IMO doing points that will seem to be a case of giving away hard earnt margin everytime they swipe a FF card is a bad idea, especially with the free advertising from QFF. That might attract partners who are less than honest. Perhaps these reports of broken machines supports my view. Perhaps not.

Sure something needs to happen but I also think a penalty could only make the situation worse. The answer I suggest is 3 strikes and you're out.

In at least HKG, there are many restaurants that allow bonus Asia Miles / MPC earning and that’s a pretty big scheme. They have lots of different places that offer points with no problems. As I’ve said before, I’d hoped that was where QF was heading… but maybe not.

Happy to name a restaurant with no problems - Macchiato in Sydney. Didn't plan on going there, but walked past this evening and remembered the name after investigating what's on offer because of this thread. The fact that I was thirsty helped.

Card swiped in the standard EFTPOS machine with no questions asked -the bill was only for 2 drinks. AMEX accepted too. Very impressed.

Another Sydney restarant crediting with no issues - China Doll in Woolloomooloo (sic). Entertain there frequently have racked up some serious points!
