QF Domestic cabin refurb, new seats etc

The airline will phase out some of its oldest planes, to be replaced with new ones, while 16 of its Boeing 737s will undergo an interior overhaul.
The overhaul will entail planes being fitted out with renowned Sydney designer Marc Newson-designed interiors, new carpets and curtains and brighter lighting.
Qantas trialled the internet on six Airbus A380s flying across the Pacific, but its cost is expected to delay its introduction in the near future.

I suspect by new seats, they mean new seat covers, but we will see.....

Not so sure, given the lockers are getting a blue sky lookalike treatment, anything could be on the table, including AVOD.

The report notes 767 will have new business clas seats and new aubergine seats in economy as well as having Ipads to hand out so looks like some kind of 767 upgrade

Does anyone really care about LED lights? I think BSI is such a waste of money, my care factor about it (on any airline) is so low....

Perhaps on long haul international it's a nice to have but there would be 100 things I'd put ahead of it it...

Some what ironic comment given the lower power consumption of LED lights. I'm sure airplane engineers (or whoever) trying to balance power demands for IFE and wireless systems and etc. from a fixed power source care about LED lights.

Sorry if that wasn't clear to you - I meant more from a direct customer onboard experience perspective not the airline saving $ / engineer POV.

The changing colours - not so much...
The substantially lower power usage and 30,000 hours lifetime - the accountants love it - lower fuel costs, and install once never need to replace (10hrs a day for 8yrs - probably the remaining life of many of these birds)...

At home I have replaced 500W (10x 50W halogens) in my kitchen with LEDs totalling about 45W for minimal loss of light...

You're kidding me, right? "Really responded?" You'd be lucky if we can call the move "sabre rattling", let alone sharpening the old sword.


If Qantas are going to roll out a "sleek black leather" in Business, wouldn't this render the current "new" Business in claret red pretty much useless?

Qantas will move to leather seats.... frankly I'm not sure I like leather seats on long haul. Short haul may be OK. Cynically I smell another move to "increase compatibility between QF and JQ fleet requirements".

Can anyone imagine aubergine coloured seating? I have nothing against the colour of aubergine, but I'm not sure how it will blend with the cabin, let alone the QF colours.


The proof will be when QF actually do something. Until then, QF, don't p*ss on my shoe and tell me it's raining.

l'm all for the 767 interior refit. About time. Some of the 767 are in dire need of a makeover....almost all the seats l've sat in, in Y, recline on their own and still mainscreen TV...
