Cellarmasters have 30% off site-wide with BLACKFRIDAY coupon code today. They have so much of their own-brand stuff it's usually pretty uninspiring to browse the site, and I can't be bothered trawling through it all, but one thing I did notice is they have Nugan Estate Manuka Grove Vineyard...

Re: Vinomofo Wine Deals If it's mostly the Halliday points that are attractive about it, this dozen might be a better deal for you: http://www.winemarket.com.au/Halliday-95-and-96-Point-Mixed-Red-Dozen . Especially since they're not offering free shipping on either (which they have done...

Thanks AC, I agree that looks more likely. (They got me again. It's always a nice bit of misdirection for the VM copy writers when grapes sourced from one region are used by a winemaker based in another.) EDIT: I should note there is still at least one inconsistency: VM say American oak was...

Cheers, Steady. I found it at #4075 in that thread. Sounds like it wants to breathe a little so I'll take that into account when cracking one. I notice VM have added a 2012 Durif with good points today; seems like it might be the Campbells, though various details don't match up (e.g. the...

Re: Vinomofo secret wine deals Same here, and I haven't tried mine yet either. If anyone has, I second the request to give us a review. And, if you're looking for more, I notice WineMarket today have something that fits its description at $17.50 in 6-packs. That's poorer value than it was...

Re: Vinomofo secret wine deals Fascinating. I'd never heard of that. I'd pay $10 for tasting glass of such a thing. Not sure I'd take a punt on a whole bottle, let alone a six pack, even at this price. Obviously a divisive style, as Campbell Mattinson (who of course nowadays seems to...

It certainly does. My guess is Grant Burge Filsell. (RRP $45 but $26.90 at Dan's right now (for the 2012 according to the DM site).)

I see in the current listing it's got a stamp on the graphic, proudly proclaiming its 93 points from, um, well, actually it doesn't say. VM's equivalent of the Dan Murphy's Wine Panel, a.k.a. the marketing department, no doubt. Gee that's a bit cynical.

Ah yes, and now I see it's the same spiel they used before for the Shortlist. Sorry for the noise.

Ah well, that could be true -- they do say that it's one they've had a previous vintage of. Cheers Red.

And then, here's something a bit odd. There's a JH 94 point shiraz, $30 down to $13.90, and I'd have assumed it was this one. Glen Eldon Wines · Wines What's remarkable is that the winery is claiming a $50 RRP. That is $20 more than either VM or Halliday say is the RRP. Of course I may...

    Vinomofo Wine Deals

For anyone interested I assume the Halliday 95 point Cabernet 2010 that's on at the moment is the one you'd find here: Estate Reserve Interestingly the price from the winery is $5.05 more expensive than the RRP quoted in the actual Halliday review. Maybe they would argue that's for bottle age.

I think JH gives an extra 5 points to any Aussie pinot. Like Aussie film critics always have always given an extra star to any Australian film, like some kind of prize just for making an effort at all. Personally I've given up on Australian pinot entirely as being overpriced and underwhelming...

Thanks Director for reiterating your opinions. By searching for "haselgrove fruit bomb" I was able to find the original posts (in which it was referred to as "batch 87" which explains why my searches for "batch 187" didn't turn it up).

Hi Dr Ralph and AC, With my 'a bit meh then?' comment I was referring to the vivino ratings, which were three 3* and one 5*. (Maybe I'm overly cynical but I tend to assume that a single high outlier may have been contributed by someone with a vested interest -- which leaves only the three 3*...

Hadn't realised that it was actually on sale again (at least for the next 12 hours) at $9.90 a bottle. Have had a couple of Capel Vale Cabernets in the past (but not this one) and enjoyed them. Given the mixed reviews and my heaving stockpiles, I will restrain myself on this occasion.

I also suspect that the mean score for Australian wines would be deservedly higher than for the "Un Bagettes". No government subsidies to grow grapes here, so a lot more of those who do it will have some idea of what they're doing.

Thank you. Actually I need to correct what I wrote; in fact I had it filtered to 94+ point wines and the total number in the 2016 book is 9083 (though this actually further emphasises my point). Actually it's: 100 points: 0.01% / 1 in 9000 99 points: 0.1% / 1 in 1300 98 points: 0.4% / 1 in...
