    International Drivers Permit

Well it is not a licence. It is only a translation. If you do not have your actual original driving licence with you in addition to the IDP, you will be in trouble.

    SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Just went through CDG this morning. In the air at present. From check in to passing immigration and security only took 30 minutes all up including the walking from check in to the boarding gate barriers where there was initially immigration and then security to go through. Flew in J with SQ...

    International Drivers Permit

Just flew out of France today....currently in the air....near Tehran. ;) In France many of the majors require the IDP. IE I checked by calling Avis/Budget while I was still in England and for France was required even though in UK was not required. Small independents often only need passport...

General Estate Planning issues (Wills, PoA, AHDs)

Your last point is but one of many why you MUST have a will. However also consider that both you and your wife may die at any time. In such a situation would you really want your daughter to be left penniless till she is 30? PS..perhaps financially educate both your wife and your daughter...

    SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Yes I was most glad that I booked my wife and I into the YOTEL, rather than rely on the nap room in the lounge on our transit in June.

    New Amex statement credits

I can only see the direct hotel/car rental offers and not the spend $400 via Amex Travel, get $100 back offer that I got on my primary card.

Four seats in J opening up in the European peak travel months of June/July would be pretty unlikely. And as others have said you would have to cancel existing flight and pay the cancelation fee, and just book the flight as a new booking.

A new Dawn around Europe Then the UK.

When we flew in to LHR on 17 June the arrival lines were pretty long (compared to our last pre-Covid LHR arrival), but they moved quite quickly. The e-gates have sped up the processing.

    Japan Tourism for independent travellers

Yes I was looking at coming back from the USA via Japan in July/Aug 2023 ( I mainly tend to redeem almost a year out)......but the way things are going I might just unfortunately have to give Japan a miss till after then on another trip. Like many other Japan watchers, we were looking go in...

    SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I had a look out of curiosity while I was in the lounge on 17 June. They do not look that comfortable, and so I doubt that I will ever try them. Having said that people in the previous lounge late at night used to nap on the old couches that were not quite long enough. So these are major...

KrisFlyer redemption rates increasing [from 5/7/22]

Yes SQ changed before midnight Singapore time which I found surprising, though I did note that departures from the USA which I am monitoring for when I book in a month or so, still were at the old rates. I was not actually looking to book, but as I was online at the time I had a look out of...

Saver Awards to/from Oz appear to have dried up!

Well being ex-Perth I assume you suggest nearest alternative city for SQ, rather than "nearby".

Saver Awards to/from Oz appear to have dried up!

Same here. Unless there is an extra Amex inducement I use a VISA that has no fx fees for all foreign currency, plus it still earns FF points though at a lower rate.

Saver Awards to/from Oz appear to have dried up!

Well a cent a point seems a bit low, at least for me. ie On the old award rate 232K was a return J flight to Europe with $175 in fees. So at 1 cent per point that is say about $2500 for a SQ J Saver Flight. Now rather than value on the cost of a SQ J flight I would look at a discount J rate...

Saver Awards to/from Oz appear to have dried up!

I just logged on to say that J Savers are back out of MEL, and have noted that others have also now found this recent change. We have booked 2 J Savers to EWR New York for mid-June 2023. Now to get back......and to decide if we spend more time in Canada or the USA.

    Superannuation Discussion + market volatility

With Covid I switched to to cash early and did very well from switching back when I thought things had bottomed out. This time I did not move quick enough, and so will just ride it out. I am still in front though. So "swings and roundabouts" for myself. I do have a sizeable cash reserve...

    SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

UPDATE: We have now completed our one night stay. As Lemon-Party stated: Tried the yotelair just before the apocalypse - room isn’t much bigger than the bed but comfy, modern, well located and probably better overall than the aerotel if time allows. Would definitely stay there again if I had...
