Priority pass web site says the Reef lounge at Cairns International is a participating lounge, so only 1 lounge now in Australia. Though the last time I was in the Reef lounge it did not excite me.

Their standard drinks are high at 12g vs 10g in Australia but I guess that article is only meant as a guide as everyone is different. Having said that I would never have more than a couple of drinks before the flight as you could be refused boarding if the crew though you were intoxicated.

I have been Diamond for 3 years and should drop to Gold. I registered and got 4 stays or 10 nights. I think the reason they do it is like Qantas with comped Platinum, they think it makes sense for them commercially.

If QANTAS have redemptions for Business at 188000 points and Approx $147 Syd-LAX return like Virgin ( with lots of availability most days even in may this year) I will be happy.

I agree you need to play the system but it does not mean I won't call shenanigans if the same service is charged at different prices (after allowing for exchange rates) in different counties. If your costs are the same charging different amounts in different countries is profiteering.

Would QANTAS also pay for prepaid accommodation etc that is lost due to arriving the next day, I wonder if travel insurance would pay if they find out you could have flown but refused? Also people don't always have a chance to allow extra days in trips, if you have five stopovers in a trip do...

It would have been interesting to be there if the hotel was fully booked and the guess who booked the room you took arrived, "sorry Sir no rooms, please go somewhere else".

Also as Red Roo said over booking is required for QANTAS to keep fares down so if your get caught in a downgrade you are taking one for the team to help QANTAS profits.
