In both of the actions of mine that went before a body, the airlines argued mistake. Some people seem to forget that the doctrine has (at least) three limbs. It's not simply a matter of the airline saying 'We made a mistake. Here's your money back. Go away now.'
And yes, there's certainly risk...
In the case I won, no, the airline defended it using lawyers from what at the time was the second largest law firm in the world. The forum I brought the action in didn't allow lawyers at the hearing, but the firm did all the legwork and acted in all the ways that give lawyers bad names. At the...
I've alluded to it on AFF several times over the years. In one well publicised so called "error fare", the airline (certainly one of the 10 most recognisable in the world, I would think) cancelled. I took it to an Australian court for breach of contract and was awarded the monetary difference...
This "gesture of goodwill" reads to me as an actual gesture of goodwill, unlike how it's often used by big business in Australia as a fig leaf for the business's error masked as big corporate doing the customer a favour. I'm impressed, Qantas.

It's my understanding Australia has the second highest minimum wage in the world, behind France.
The first couple of members have received their goods.
Unfortunately, I won't get to any further mailing before Monday the 19th as I'm off on a short time. I apologise for the delay due to the late arr– Never mind.
I'm more confused.
Staff were apparently told they were going to be laid off on 31 August. If the property is continuing as a hotel, surely it'll need staff.
And the emails I've received from Hyatt don't help with the confusion. One read:
That suggested existing bookings would be honoured...
Assuming that you can earn points by buying gift cards, it's a way to reach a minimum spend quickly and earn points for transactions that otherwise wouldn't (e.g. council rates).
There doesn't appear to be any exclusion on earning Star points at the usual rate from the purchase of gift cards directly from a gift card retailer (e.g. Visa, TCN EFTPOS). Does anyone have experience with this?
