New KF Redemption Rates eff 1 Mar

I have noticed 380 and 77W showing up regularly as 'Waitlist' post Mar - indeed I did get 2 J savers confirmed on 77W Jul 18 but changed to later flight so we get daytime travel and lessen wasted time in SIN on way to AMS - I have a couple of J savers waitlisted out of PEK on 77W Apr and May - hope they do come through as it will make connections much better - time will tell.

AS usual Krisflyer living up to its name as being one of worst FF miles programs in the industry. Hard to get to Gold status, hard to burn and too many booking classes in Y that makes it harder to earn.

As a frequent flyer on SIA, even the flight experience not as good as it used to be. They seem to be following the A. Joyce School of Airlines managment.

Is there any change to Star Alliance redemption rates?

Rates to Europe do seem to have changed alittle and they have fiddled with the zones AMS, CPH,Rome and Athens now seperate from the rest .Standard award rates to europe remain unchanged ?????
The plot thickens...fingers crossed on those J savers availability

Seems that lots of J class have gone up, and Y classes have gone down (reflecting that fuel fines are huge perhaps).

Eg. MEL/SYD-SIN J: was 76,500 return. Now 93,500 return. But in Y was 46,750 return. Now 42,500 return.

The Australia (ex PER/DRW) chart, it seems that this is a real anomaly compared to similar distances destinations (eg JNB/IST still for 76,500 return ex SIN, Japan for 68,000 return. I wonder if this is due to the plethora of Credit Card points being earned in Australia and the relatively low cost vs competition (ie QF), especially if savers on new products are becoming more widely available.

Net-net I think this looks good - why? I think J savers are now definitely to be had on the A380 and 777W because I see i) the Europe I versus Europe II routes are differentiated by the 772 routes and 77W / A380 routes respectively. e.g. last time a SIN-LHR in J would have cost 120K pts, now its 80K pre discount?

I guess you are worse off if you were predominantly flying the J saver on the 77ER from say SYD to SIN...

Addendum:
Also, i noticed that the terms and conditions no longer have the clause where 77W/388 J flights can only be booked into the standard award bucket

As long as 77W / 388 award availability increases at the Saver levels, I'd be happy to pay a little bit more in points. Also that would increase alot of routes that one would miss out on because of only Standard award or higher being available.

Just got this from SQ Talk:

Revision of Redemption Award and Upgrade Award Charts, including Extension of Saver Award for First and Business Class to More Flights

Thank you for your continued support for Singapore Airlines. In our regular review to improve the KrisFlyer programme, we will be making revisions to the Singapore Airlines and SilkAir Award and Upgrade Award charts. We will also be extending Saver Award for First and Business Class to more flights as part of this upcoming revision.

The changes to the Singapore Airlines and SilkAir Award and Upgrade Award charts will include adjustments to Saver, Standard and Full Award levels in selected cabin classes. Some destinations will be re-designated to different zones. These changes will be effective for redemption bookings from 1 March 2012 for flights departing 1 April 2012 onwards.

For more details, please refer to the Revised Singapore Airlines and SilkAir Award and Upgrade Award Chart and Revised Star Alliance Award and Upgrade Award Charts.

We appreciate your invaluable feedback and are pleased to announce that we will also be enhancing our seat award redemption offerings. Currently Saver Award is only available for selected First and Business Class flights. With this improvement, you will be able to redeem Saver Award for First and Business Class on most flights, including First and Business Class on our B777-300ER flights; and Business Class on our A380 and A340-500 flights. This will be available for redemption bookings from 8 March 2012, for flights departing 1 April 2012 onwards.

To find out more, please refer to the Frequently Asked Questions below.

We hope that you will continue to enjoy the benefits of the KrisFlyer programme. I would like to thank you once again for your support for Singapore Airlines and we look forward to welcoming you onboard our flight again soon.

Yours Sincerely,

Nice posts edison
I will be on the money on 8/3/12 as I have 3x Standard J bookings LHR to SIN for travel on 11/4 and I know from the manage my booking that J is 19 out of 42 full at the moment . I am only expecting 2 saver seats max for the plane but it may prove worthy to canc and rebook. Nice one SQ. Best J seats in the world IMHO( thats 11a and K on the 77W) and potentially at saver rates. That remind me its tax time again..time for more points

Actually I think for not too long day flights, I actually preferred the New Regional J over the A380/77W Js. A380/77W is great for sleeping.

Ironically last time I tried on A380 J during Xmas, my better half and I sat in 1 seat (!) together to have lunch! That's how wide it was!

AUS to US - Star alliance award has gone up heaps!
I booked for 140K, now 195K!!!
Not impressed.

Well the increase in points is a negative, but the ability to redeem Savers on 77W at least is good, and even Saver J on A380 and A345.

I can imagine it's going to increase the scrum considerably, but it's at least a nice sign for KF members.

I wonder what this will mean for other *A FFPs attempting to get seats on SQ flights? (I've heard limited cases of SQ releasing seats very close to departure or very, very sporadically, but as said - they are rare). In fact, I wonder how much inventory VA members have access to in SQ?

Actually, I wonder if VA is going to change the redemption tables for SQ given the SQ rejig anyway? At the moment there is NO WAY I would redeem VA points on SQ.

You can try SYD/MEL-SIN-HKG/ICN/NRT-SFO/LAX SQ J on A380/77W instead with cheaper miles if booked online!

I highly doubt it.

The underlying "cost" that partners have to pay SQ (or SQ KF) I would assume has not changed. KF are simply changing their rules so that members can redeem seats in a different way (in this case, opening up more options but also increasing costs).

Whilst VA does reserve a separate table for SQ (except for Australia/Singapore redemptions), the prices are set delicately high as they are. I can't see a reason to shift the levels.

Will they shift them down instead? I doubt that too.

What SQ KF (or SQ generally) can do to other partners is change the inventory made available to them (both if at all, and as a function of time). This is what SQ was doing for a long time to other *A FFPs with respect to protecting SQ Suites and generally premium classes in their 77Ws and 345s.

It's kind of unfortunate that nothing except Saver awards is practical for SQ given the low earning speed and hard points expiry. It's not too bad for those who supplement their KF with a credit card. (Some Standard Awards are OK in a pinch. Full Awards are really asking for bend over - i.e. if you got it, well, good for you...)

Not surprisingly, rates have gone up, quite substantially for AUS-SIN J Savers
eg SYD-SIN was 45K, now 55K, though F Saver goes from 70K to 75K, all before online discounts.

But maybe, just maybe, J & F savers will now be available on the now-getting-on-a-bit 77W and A380.
As long as 77W / 388 award availability increases at the Saver levels, I'd be happy to pay a little bit more in points. Also that would increase alot of routes that one would miss out on because of only Standard award or higher being available.

I have to say I like the changes, in partic. the availability to redeem J saver awards in J and F on all plane types (excluding suites). Given that of the 4 daily Syd-Sin flights, 2 are the A380 and occas. the 3rd one is a 777-300ER, that only left 1 flight bet Syd and Sin that one could redeem a saver J award. Now you can redeem a return saver award in J betwen Syd and Sin on the A380 (or 777-300ER) for 93500 Sq pts (with 15% online booking discount); previously a standard award had to be used which cost 153000 Sq pts (with 15% online booking discount). I'm very excited....I think cove will be wetting himself with excitement!!! I suspect I will be transferring a lot of my AMEX points to Sq now as opposed to Qf!!!!

For credit cards this is all good, as many have pointed out the opening up of saver awards. For flying, I'll wait and see what the reports are for LH's Miles & More redemptions on SQ's 380/77W's, as their earn/burns would seem better.

Both not as good as BD which will be sorely missed. Was great it whilst it lasted, 75K for WAW-LHR-SIN (380)-MEL with six week stopover in SIN, as well as 37.5K for the A380 SYD-SIN and 77W MEL-SIN :(
