..I think cove will be wetting himself with excitement!!!

 Paging cove !

I think the changes are for the better.
Good strategy on SQ's part:
starve us of Savers on the 77W,380 and 345 for 5-6 years,
to the point that now we are happy with the increased redemption rates.

I particularly like the US J savers...very very attractive.

Yes we have been thinking about 5 or more long haul runs a year. If there was a cure for jet lag we could do more runs. Our trips to Los Angeles have been working out at an average of $1500 return out of Perth for the return in J so we are really happy with that.
More Saver options will be nice.
i still don't see many from our populous east coast going backwards to Singapore to go to Los Angeles....in fact there were 33 seats out of 100 seats taken on the LAX run in late January. I barely used my spare seat because I slept so well in the fold down J bed.
I think SQ is so good that I finished the calendar year with less points in the bin than I started with.
Also I have started recognizing staff members on the A340!

Pollywaffle which direction are you trying to do NYC for your one way?

Clearly the access to J savers on 380 and 77W is a positive for most SQ redemption pax even though burn rates increased slightly.

It will advantage me as it does make for some more suitable connections from MEL into / out of PEK / PVG / CAN.

I already have 5 J savers waitlisted on the 380 / 77W prior to this announcememt.

I think terminology used was - "for redemption bookings made from March 1, 2012 onwards" does it not?

I wonder would waitlisted bookings immediately confirm on March 1 or would new redemption require to be made?

Best I call KF and speak to a supervisor to see if they know.

FWIW - just called KF - waitlisted bookings that confirm post Mar 1 will indeed be honoured at old redemption rates.

What they cannot tell me is once Mar 1 ticks over and previously Not Available becomes Available on 380 and 77W whether or not previously waitlisted redemption bookings will automatically confirm.

J saver redemption for AU east coast to SIN increased 22%. I wouldn't exactly call that "increased slightly".

However, I can now fly SIN-EWK non-stop in J saver... :p
And then, I would be able to say that I have taken the world's longest commercial flight at its times, in a relatively good looking aircraft which no airlines in the world can make any money out of.

I have to say I like the changes, in partic. the availability to redeem J saver awards in J and F on all plane types (excluding suites). Given that of the 4 daily Syd-Sin flights, 2 are the A380 and occas. the 3rd one is a 777-300ER, that only left 1 flight bet Syd and Sin that one could redeem a saver J award. Now you can redeem a return saver award in J betwen Syd and Sin on the A380 (or 777-300ER) for 93500 Sq pts (with 15% online booking discount); previously a standard award had to be used which cost 153000 Sq pts (with 15% online booking discount). I'm very excited....I think cove will be wetting himself with excitement!!! I suspect I will be transferring a lot of my AMEX points to Sq now as opposed to Qf!!!!

I am holding points with AMEX, and wondering too - what happens to the QFF program, with both VA and SQ offering great deals.

I think residing in Perth instead of my eastern state cousins has finally yielded some positive benefits :D

Personally I'm very excited about the following changes:

  • Perth - Hong Kong is now only 32 500 points pre-discount for J saver
  • The points increase for J savers ex-Perth are a lot more palatable compared to the east coast and hence I can easily justify spending more points to redeem on a greater choice of flights
  • Now I can fly Perth-Sing-Hong Kong-San Fran and return New York-Frankfurt-Singapore-Perth and not burn an abundance of points!
Providing award availability increases to what we all hope to expect, I will be sending all my credit card points to Kris Flyer. :D

I might even do the unthinkable and get a Citi Select card and pay the $700 annual fee on top on my Amex Plat $900 fee even when I have a free for life Signature card!

Pumbaa you know the Citi new credit card journey can be pretty frustrating so be ready for testing times on Select. Let me wish you good luck for when you start this journey.
Perth folks have been dealt good cards which usually went the other way previously.
I used to have to get to MEL or SYD to take off to the US and other than the midnight express(which I won't use) you had to waste a day to get a direct flight to Los Angeles.
I hope to see you all out there soon seeing our currency is running hot.

Pollywaffle which direction are you trying to do NYC for your one way?

It's SYD > NYC for a trip in late August.

I have spoken once to the Singapore call centre who advised United was my only option and they had no availability.

I was planning to call regularly but unless I get something this month this plan is out the window. It looks like I should resign myself to economy for this leg - and definitely not on United. :)

Well I think it would be safe to assume that not ALL would....particularly on popular routes at busy times....and also in particulat if say no Standrd is showung now.

Plus also high staus later waitlists can still gazump earlier waitlisted low status Waitlisters.

Pollywaffle if you have QF points AA is really acceptable to go LAX to NYC.
It was 50k for J and 75k for First so I have never needed to pay and we have been doing that every two years as one ways on American.
Others buy AA points and there is a thread on doing that.
Then you could go the other way and cut across to NYC from Europe which could be fun but a few hours longer.
I hope that gives you some thoughts that might work for you.

Is there any change to Star Alliance redemption rates?

To answer my own question - yes. But business class within south-west Pacific remains at 35k, and that's the main thing I care about.

Wouldn't it be nice if this table has reset the fuel calculations. I mean, we all know that an aircraft is going to use fuel, so it would be nice if the redemption bookings included fuel. Then as fuel increases/decreases then the fuel subsidy can calculate from 1 April rates.

I think the benefit for me will be positive as my Europe destinations are now all A380.

Email in my Inbox just arrived from Krisflyer.
will have to go and get my glasses before studying it.
will report back soon

You have options with Air New Zealand and Air Canada. AC may require you to use Toronto as a hub.

I only have a piddly 20K QFF points. I'll check out the threads about buying AA points as that could be something to consider.

AirNZ will only take me as far as the West Coast, which is why the agent I spoke to did not investigate further. I had forgotten about Air Canada. Will take a look at this as an option.

Thanks for the help, everyone.

AA points .....they are less numbers to go further than QF points to go AA to NYC so you can lok that up on AA.com

Realized there's post by Edison (post # 9) which I was about to repeat. Email from SQ received this morning.

I currently have 4 J Saver redemptions on 380 or 77W on 'Waitlist' between April 25 and Sept 12 - all these flights do currently show Standard available.

KF suggested I call again Monday and talk to Senior Manager to clarify whether or not automatic confirmation can / will occur as of Mar 1. First person I spoke to yesterday said YES - then I was transferred through to team leader - she said MAYBE - then said best I call back Monday and they should have answer then.
