And far greater availability - 3 flts daily ex Melbourne invariably give you great connections.

Re: revision of redemptionaward and upgrade award charts

That's win win .... better plane + shorter layover ;)

Back to the topic, I know it cost more points under the new rates BUT SQ awards are LESS than similar QF awards. Less look at SYD-SIN in J ... SQ is 46,750 after online discount whilst QF wants 60,000!

Difference is even greater in F:
SQ 63,750
QF 90,000.

It depends on how you earn them. If you've earn't them by spending $46,750 then you are probably better off than with QF.

But if you've flown 31,166 miles (ie 46,750 KF miles) as a KF gold in business class you would have earnt 70,000 points if you were a QF gold in business class. Likewise you could have earnt those points by 94 Hilton stays, which would have accrued 94,000 points on QF...

Having said that I tend to find SQ availability in business class more easily than QF, so swings and roundabouts.

Definitely agree with your post dajop and its the earn ability and burn rate that matters.

My SQ points earn and primarily via AX credit card spend where I use an Edge card ... earns 3 MR points per $1 at supermarkets (bulk of my spend really) .. and hence, it really is 3 KF points per $1 [so spending $15K or so at Coles will give me a free o/w J flight to S.E Asia] .... there is no QF card that comes close to this. I also rely on a free-for-life CB card (where AX isn't accepted) that is really 0.8333 KF points per $1 ... which isn't great but at least the KF redemption rates are lower.

Definitely need to keep this in mind. Most of my spend goes to Amex MR, which technically could work best for KF for me, however a lot of my points across all of my programs (with one notable exception) are earned through flying.

Earning SQ points through flying is a royal PITA unless you fly premium classes, plus I'm not a fan of the 3 year expiry.

In the end, you do what works for your budget and habit.

I suppose you mean the availability of Saver awards, though I'm inclined to agree with you anyway. It does help considerably that SQ has a network and schedule frequency to key destinations that easily supports this.

Re: revision of redemptionaward and upgrade award charts

I warehouse Kris points in the credit card I use to avoid the 3 year expiry starting too early.

Re: revision of redemptionaward and upgrade award charts

I booked a Saver J for Perth to Los Angeles including my favourite A340-500 100 seater. Very, very impressed with the changes.

We're on the same wavelength, Cove!
J savers, when available on SQ, are high on redemption value list.

(sent from HKG, on J saver x 2!!)

Re: revision of redemptionaward and upgrade award charts

I am impressed with the changes.I was able to get J savers BNE-SIN return at only 6 weeks out.
Helped friends out over weekend and able to get them J savers return to NYC-there on 345,back on 380.But what was good is that this was late december, january.they also had a lot of Velocity points but on VA was over a million points each.Great to have a backup program.

Re: revision of redemptionaward and upgrade award charts

I also agree the changes are a great thing, although its a slight increase in points needed, at least now I can see quite a few more flight choices including 388s and 77Ws.
