$0 Annual Fee for Life on Citi Platinum/Signature CC Complimentary Insurance

Took up the offer of free Signature Card for life - was lucky enough to take advantage of the free gold/platinum offer from Citibank from 2007.

Got my welcome pack about 4 days after sending in verification details, impressive. Was hoping to use the free prioritypass passes for me and the missus but just found out that it's 2 free visits for me only, missus will have to pay to get in :(

Well really, how much do you really expect from a free card, of course the prospect of devaluation exists so abuse it while you can!

I expect as much from the fee free as when I was paying a fee.
(I know, what am I thinking...)
Indeed the prospect of devaluation always looms, so we always should *maximise utility* while we can. ;)

While I never trust Citi, they were very good with the last free for life offer and I see no reason to doubt them on this offer. The last gold card rapidly have platinum then signature so this one may end up as a select when a better card comes out.

Card arrived today.

Fine print says additional cardholder Fee Free as well :p

While wife could get her one, being on mine is muc better as it simplifies payment, and points are all in the one account.

Currently have a platinum card with annual fee
Been with Citibank for about 7 years
Usually have the card pretty maxed out and pay most off each month/two $20k limit
Rang and asked about the offer, and was transferred to customer service. Was given the option of applying for the Signature in addition to the Platinum, but didn't see the need, plus wanted to reduce the need for additional ID checks etc as I can't be bothered
Confirmed that I could apply for the fee free for life offer on my current Plat card and/or apply for the Signature card. Confirmed that I could get 6 months at 1.99% as a balance transfer and that any existing balance on the old card would transfer
Just confirmed my name/address etc and sent off the request for the Singature card for approval and will know in 3-5 working days

Will update the thread with the outcome, but was hoping it would automatically be approved :(

Rang Citi today to check the "status" of my upgrade request and they confirmed I was approved for the Signature card, fee free for life and that I could do a 0% balance transfer as new customer :D :D :D but will confirm they didn't mean 0% on purchases when I activate the card!

$1 for 1QF point is great for a Visa
$1 for 1SQ point is good too, as I closed my Westpac Plat SQ card :(

Looking forward to using the card more and reducing my spend on my CommBank Mastercard with their poor airline transfer rate

Card received today (signature).
Called and activated and signed up for QF rewards @ $49 annual fee.

Was offered zero % balance transfer for 6 monthw. I Declined.

I was then offered 80% of my credit limit as a cheque sent to me at zero % interest for up to 6 months with no fees or charges. Provided it is 100% repaid in 5.99 months then it would be 'free' cash ... so I can stick it in my savings account earning 4%. Just got to remember to transfer it back to the card in time.

It feels like the GFC is over when these cards are now so easy to get + they seem to want to throw money at us. Who am I to say no.
The interest buys me a few nights next Christmas in a hotel.

So whilst this card waits it out on the bench for 6 months I'll use my newly minted Macquarie QF Visa.

All too easy.

Hmm I think I'll take the cheque to self offer as I can think of a few nice ways to play with that money over the next 6 months which may (hopefully) get a very nice return!

I assume you would still need to make minimum monthly repayments on that for the 6 months, just like a 0% balance transfer ?

Great question and didn't think about that.
I can only presume it works like a balance transfer.

Now I only wish I had asked for a larger credit limit.

I am still on cautious as usually "if it seems to good to be true" ... well you know the rest. But I've also been taught to not look a gift horse in the mouth ... so I'm treating this one as a day at the races ... a bet each way.

It does work just like a balance transfer so you will need to make min payment each month. Last time I took a cheque as well and put it in my saving at 4% for 6 months. Few hundred bucks after 6 months and all I had to do was a few clicks of the mouse. Not much in term of dollars but hey, it's free money.

Thought as much, unfortunately they moved the same credit limit across to the Signature card for me :(

Think I'll try to increase it when I get the card....

Have any existing customers managed to get this deal with the 80% in cash for 6 months?

I'm an existing customer, I called up and asked about the balance transfer and cheque to self. They said they could do 6 months for 0%. Only problem is that I need to wait 7-10 days to get the cheque, but way worth it given they gave me a $30k limit

How meticulous are they with checking income?

It's Citibank, so will be no clear pattern or logic applied to how meticulous they will be with your application, however, should they want more information, they'll usually ask for stacks of it.

How long is it supposed to take for the PIN to be sent? Thanks

Within a few days of the card. Sometimes the PIN comes first.

They coughed and moaned with mine but I shut them up with a tax return.

I didn't have to provide any proof of income to them, however I was a customer (transaction account) already, and they sent me offers to sign up for their cards constantly. A friend of mine who applied that wasn't a citi customer has been asked to provide proof of income, drivers licence, etc

I tried to apply for this card but was declined for some reason. Rang up to ask why and they said they couldn't put me through to anyone who could discuss my application. Any suggestions on how to further pursue this?

As far as I know they aren't allowed to tell you what the reason is that they rejected your application
