I tried to apply for this card but was declined for some reason. Rang up to ask why and they said they couldn't put me through to anyone who could discuss my application. Any suggestions on how to further pursue this?

Same here, I ended up calling back again today, asked to speak with a supervisor. Supervisor said he is going to "send some emails" and call me back tomorrow. I'm not holding my breath, but I have no idea why I might have been declined.

I didn't have to provide any proof of income to them, however I was a customer (transaction account) already, and they sent me offers to sign up for their cards constantly. A friend of mine who applied that wasn't a citi customer has been asked to provide proof of income, drivers licence, etc

I'm an existing customer with Clear Platinum credit card and Plus transaction account.

Probably for being vegan.

Sorry, couldn't help myself! :p

Well just got of the phone to Citibank and they have put in my upgrade request from my platinum card for fee free for life signature card should know in 7 to 10 days apparently.

Did you apply through family and friends page?

got approved for the platinum card.. does anyone know what the minimum credit limit is for the card? I didn't ask for a specific limit so wondering what the minimum is...

I am keeping the fee schedule letter they sent confirming fee free for life of the card...

When I got my platinum with yearly fee of $149 upgraded to Signature last year, they sent the card along with the welcome letter that stated the yearly fee of $495 as well. I called them to confirm the yearly fee of $149, they gave me a reference number. Just make sure you keep that reference number. It seems no matter what kind of yearly fee you are on, when you request for an upgrade and get approved, they will send out the default letter with the $495 fee but in fact, it's the original yearly fee.

Unfortunately it seems that they're giving me the runaround for the new Signature card, despite the fact I want to transfer from the Platinum Card, maintain my current limit, and I have a long history of running lots of expenses through the card paying it off every month for about 5 years. This is a little frustrating. They want to speak to my accountant, etc.

I have had a huge run around w' this mob. I'm sticking w' it now just to see how many times they can be pedantic on the documents, how long they can keep asking for the same things again and again, how often they can be reviewing it etc etc. I qualify more than adeqautly just fine, but the quality control and consistence is all over the place. It borders on being a joke.

On Monday they tried to call me when I was on hold with them then said I never answer their calls.

I was slightly amused.

It's Citibank, it's always a personal decision of "is this product worth the time they'll make me waste". For most things, no, but for this and Citibank Plus, it's a pretty convincing case.

Currently have a platinum card with annual fee
Been with Citibank for about 7 years
Usually have the card pretty maxed out and pay most off each month/two $20k limit
Rang and asked about the offer, and was transferred to customer service. Was given the option of applying for the Signature in addition to the Platinum, but didn't see the need, plus wanted to reduce the need for additional ID checks etc as I can't be bothered
Confirmed that I could apply for the fee free for life offer on my current Plat card and/or apply for the Signature card. Confirmed that I could get 6 months at 1.99% as a balance transfer and that any existing balance on the old card would transfer
Just confirmed my name/address etc and sent off the request for the Singature card for approval and will know in 3-5 working days

Will update the thread with the outcome, but was hoping it would automatically be approved :(

Mon 2/12
Rang Citi today to check the "status" of my upgrade request and they confirmed I was approved for the Signature card, fee free for life and that I could do a 0% balance transfer as new customer :D :D :D but will confirm they didn't mean 0% on purchases when I activate the card!

$1 for 1QF point is great for a Visa
$1 for 1SQ point is good too, as I closed my Westpac Plat SQ card :(

Looking forward to using the card more and reducing my spend on my CommBank Mastercard with their poor airline transfer rate

Wed 4/12 - Still nothing in the mail... but Citi seems to take ages for anything to post to me!

Got my card yesterday, called to activate it today. I inquired about being transferred to Signature at no fee given I had sufficient credit limit. I was told a request had been put in for this, and to call back in 3-5 days to find the outcome. I reiterated I wanted the Signature for no fee ever due to the current promotion. The CSR confirmed the request was for no fee Signature. Made sure to get the lady's name and noted the time I called, just in case it goes pear shaped. Can't hurt to ask, so thanks Plutonus for the suggestion. Worst case is I still get a fee free Platinum.

Above post made on 30/11. Called today and was told the request had been approved and the new card was on its way. Also confirmed again it has no annual fee. Now to see what documentation comes with the card.

In short, didn't have the income for Signature, was approved for Platinum with limit $15k+, requested transfer to Signature, which was approved. Just waiting for something to go pear shaped here.

For those that are getting the 80% of credit limit as a cheque, are you planning to use the card for purchases as well?

One of the risks is that if you have that balance, and you use the card for purchases, the amounts that you pay off will be paying off the balance of what they sent you as the cheque, which means that what you purchased on the card doesn't get paid off and you end up getting charged interest on the purchases.

Usually these 0% interest deals work only if you are only going to keep the balance on there and not spend anything more on it.

http://www.citibank.com.au/aus/credit_cards/pdf/MCG10963_2011.pdf - check point 12. Application of payments. You'll see that when you make a payment on the card, any payment goes to pay off the balance transfer and special promotion first, which means that you'll have a recurring purchases balance which might be getting charged 20.99% currently.

I think there is an updated version of these terms that complies with the new requirements for credit contracts entered into since July 1 2012. The order payments are applied to any balance is now to pay off the portion with the highest interest first. See Australian Banking Reforms - What Reforms are Next?

Still, you would not want to use the card for purchases, as there would be no interest free days, if you had taken the Balance Transfer or Cheque to Self options.

I have taken them up on this offer, however, I will not be using the card at al until I pay off the balance. I'm putting the funds on my mortgage for 5.5 months, netting an easy $500 for the time. At the end of the period, I might balance transfer to another bank or just repay it and combine the credit limit on this Singature card with my current one

Despite citibank being a pain, they are worth it.
