Just got of the phone to Citibank and Fee free Signature card approved, no need to verify income etc,
but then again have been with Citi for over 20 years now waiting for delivery, happy chappy:)

I am citibank customer (though only really used the account once when travelling), I signed up the other day and was approved instantly without providing any documents

Just got approval email. Applied on the day it was posted here, sent docs via email during the application, called by them couple of days later to double check my income details. Not sure if they called my work but now approved.

Total 9 days inc. weekends, not bad considering how many applications there must have been.

They havea 2 stage process.

Virtually everyone gets instant conditional approval.
Normally there is a stage 2. So was your approval the conditional one, or the full approval?

Just called them to confirm and they said not to bother sending anything in as it's already been approved and I should get a package within 2 - 3 days. I figured I wouldn't need to send drivers licence, medicare etc given I'm already a customer but thought payslips would be compulsory. Anyway - not complaining!

Hmm, got a text message from Citibank saying "Due to the overwhelming response to our offer, we are experiencing some delays with our processing time. We thank you for your patience and we will be contacting you shortly."
I got a conditional approval email yesterday morning and I got this text this morning. I'll stick with my refusal to provide ID and income docs (requesting a waiver due to being an existing customer) and will phone to follow up tomorrow or Friday.

If you are getting the run-around and have online banking, try logging in to see if a new account has appeared.

After getting inconsistent emails/messages (send documents, then approved, then a delay text message, then required to send documents, then a text message asking me to complete their request for documents) I logged into online banking (as I have a Plus account) to check for a new account. There in the account list was the platinum card with a limit a bit over $15,000. I don't have the salary for Signature but am happy with what I have been given (hoping for an upgrade down the track as credit limit is already high enough). Can't complain about a fee free card with benefits other than just interest free days.

I'd call up and ask if they've already given you a credit limit of $15,000 - that seems the real 'barrier'. The income is probably just there for new applicants as they consider $75,000 to be the minimum required to service a fully utilised $15,000 credit limit.

I asked for the max allowable initial limit ($50K) on the Signature :P knowing it'll fall through to whatever they're willing to give me based on the financial info I supplied, plus I'll roll my $9K Clear Platinum limit onto the Signature and cancel the card. A man can hope...

The run around is quite something. Been a credit card customer for 20 years and they've made me jump through all the hoops to get the fee free version of the card. I love the way the emails all ask for slightly different things. Nothing extra has turned up in either of my online banking accounts....

Whilst I can't comment on Citibank specifically, this is generally not correct.

All card issuers have similar min. Income requirements for similar types of cards (e.g. Platinum), yet have different credit criteria.

My understanding is the min. Income and limits are set by MasterCard and Visa.

Do I bother applying purely for the free PP which is mainly useless in Australia and im QF SG? Also already earning 1:1 on non-Amex.

PP question. Can you take a guest in or just single admission?

I don't doubt this at all, especially as all the platinum/signature/world cards across the banks have very similar if not mirrored minimum income and credit limit requirements. It was more based on several posts about all other banks that makes it seem less strict if you're an existing client and meet the minimum credit limit.

Anyway if tim374 would prefer the signature the worst Citibank can say is "no".

I assume it's the 2 pass per year membership, on which you can take a guest in, but will be charged USD27 for the guest.

Can you please point to where it states max initial limit is $50k? I only saw max limit of $100k.

Got that from two different CSRs over the phone. $100K max limit is correct but max they will issue initially is $50K and you can work up to $100K.

I'm already a Signature card holder. I just called Citibank and mentioned the offer. On hold for about 3min while she checked a few things (probably that I am a customer in good standing) and was approved for the no fees for life. No drama. I must say, I am very happy that I didn't have to jump through any hoops. Thanks for posting this information - I was a going to change cards later this year, but now Citibank has kept me as a customer and I don't have to pay the annual fee. Win/Win!

Do you know if We get the full benefits of the signature card if it's fee free for life?
