You cannot believe HOW excited I am with this PROMO!

It really is 1 transaction is worth 1,000 points.

Imagine 1,000 transactions = 1 MILLION points.

WOW - HOT - AMAZING - WOW - HOT :p

At some of the conversion rates (e.g travelkey), that means each transaction rewards you with $10 worth of points. Quite extraordinary really - they really want us to be out there using the card!

So there will be no huge increase in my habbits really just another 3-5 transactions per day !

I really hope AMEX don't pull this promo as it does seem too good to be true!

There is obviously more to this promo that meets the eye, but my back of envelope calculations suggests they must have budgeted a fair amount for this, as the payback in points seems to exceed the fees they would get from the transactions. Maybe if we are trying to use our cards everywhere it will encourage more merchants to sign up...

It would certainly be interesting to know how they measure whether this is a successful promotion or not, as they must be throwing some serious dollars at it

Judging by the number of times I've asked places today whether they accept American Express (I've been trying to find new cafes that I can pick up snacks and coffees and pay with Amex), they're possibly getting a LOT of people now asking everyone if they'll pay by Amex, and possibly even walking out if they don't accept it (or won't accept it for a small amount). After all, that's what I was doing today.

By they way, the Amex Network map (The American Express Merchant Map) is very handy for working out who will take the card and who won't.

Is there a way you can check online what youre registered for or is ringing up the only option?

Good point because I was doing exactly the same thing too ;)

Guess if tens or hundreds of people ask a merchant and consequently leave because of their non-acceptance of Amex, guess that merchant may consider accepting Amex in the future.

Yep, I am sure they have budgeted a large sum to cover this.

I am still in shock at how good it seems

Well I have signed up for all three, and not called them - and I have just got my first 5000 bonus points from the 'myrewards' one.
Were you targetted with a postcard from Amex? I haven't received a postcard and was wondering whether that would have a bearing on earning these bonus points.

BTW, many thanks to the OP for starting this thread! ;)

No, I only have the OP and this thread to thank :)

For those of you with Qantas branded Amex.

I have a Qantas Amex Premium card and wasn't able to sign up online. I phoned Membership Rewards this morning and asked if I could sign up for the "Myrewards" promotion. Was signed up on the spot, no questions asked.

My target is 6-8 transactions/day = 600-800 transactions = 600,000 - 800,000 points Woo Hoo!!

Surely this is too good to be true.

While it does sound too good to be true, it's definately a valid and current offer!

The terms and conditions don't mention a limit on how many bonus points you can earn.

The postcard even states CLEARLY "No limit to the amount of points you can earn"

Off to the petrol station for 2 purchases in a few mins to start the day off

Sure but the promotion can be terminated at any time. Good luck to anyone that can milk this promotion to full potential without abusing it....

While that is true from a points perspective, caution should be exercised in going overboard with splitting payments and making multiple transactions at on place in a short period of time, as it can set off the suspicious transaction detectors.

Odd.

I just rang to see if I could put my QF card on it and they said it was only on the Maximiser Card. So would not enrol it.

Asking for a transaction to be split up will definitely trigged the fraud detectors. Buying multiple things at the same place, probably not so much so.

See this link for Amex merchants.

Yep totally agree, and people who end up at the self serve checkouts at Woolworths putting 10 bread rolls through seperately deserve to have their points cancelled.

For me I do have a habbit of multiple purchases from the same shop on the same day.

Each week I will visit the same servo twice to fill up my cars, I am just going to be doing that twice a week or more now.

When I buy a coffee/drink from the servo it will go as a seperate payment so I have a seperate tax invoice just for the petrol of course.

Won't be a huge change in my spending patternss but I won't be shopping/eating/drinking anywhere that doesn't accept AMEX in the next 100 days.

Wait - That's the idea of this promo :mrgreen:

I have to admit that I wasn't hopeful when I rang and was surprised when he simply said he'd registered my card and then went on to explain the conditions.
I'm still not 100% convinced that I'll be getting this bonus but only time will tell.

All I can suggest is you call again and try another operator.

I won't be changing my spending patterns too much or splitting payments to abuse this offer either but I will be topping up petrol and shopping more often than usual. Instead of buying a weeks supply of chocolate and lollies with the weekly shopping, I'll buy them daily. A bottle of wine per day at Dan Murphys instead of a monthly bulk purchase - that sort of thing.
