Not sure how they could make a notation without adjusting the points balance - the POC note has been linked to only adjustments that we know of.

It is more than just adjusting your enrolments, as the post I was replying to suggested - it requires a change to points. They can unenrol you without changing points and no POC is shown.

I strongly suspect that you only get the POC notation if they actually reverse points out.

There was actually reversing done before POC'ing came into play. What that means for the eventual promo I'm on is yet to be determined..

Does anyone know what the "Platinum Points Accelerator" is? I've been getting this since 26/09, but the only promotions I've signed up to have the 5/5000. Its effectively crediting 2 points per $ instead of the usual 1.5

No..but I have heard of the Business Accelerator:
https://www.americanexpress.com/aus...EOAFF&CRTV=AM08Q1V94696&sourcecode=875806X001

You'll earn 2 Membership Rewards points for every $1 spent up to $150,000 - reverting to 1 point for $1 thereafter (reset annually)¹. These points are not capped and will not expire as long as your account remains current

Well it may be the W...for I am an M.;)

But I think that the reason that you have not been POCked is not the cancelling.

For I registered for all 3 on the 17th...and then on finding my 5000 for 5 postcard at home waiting for me I rang on the 18th to ensure that I was enrolled in my postcarded offer.

I was informed that the other two would be cancelled.

After points starting posting...and obviously from all three I again rang and was advised that yes that had my correct one...and that they yes would cancel the other two.

So I suspect that they could not actually alter people enrolments till some software fix was prepared....and that this is what POCking does. It puts people in the one enrollment if in multiples, and if only in one, but the wrong one it swaps you.

I think that the inability to cancel, or correct, enrollments was one of the reasons why they stopped awarding bonus points....that plus the bill splitting which was going on.

I signed up for all 3 and then called up to cancel the first 2 only received bonus points from the 5/5

Well then, there is then only one consistency in Amex's various responses...and that is that there is no consistent response or pattern!!!!!!

It is almost as it is up to the whim of the CSR you speak to as to what happens!!!

And they don't call you back - I'm still waiting for that call from Friday!

I've got the Platinum Credit Card so its not the card your link goes to, the reference to "Platinum Points Accelerator" comes from the points statement when you expand the detail on a transaction. No complaints here, that little bit helps until the 5/5000 points start coming in, but strange as I haven't received any promo material about it

I've now been POC'd:

Group - POC High engaged V2 and a multiple of 5000 points removed.

That makes it two bites of the cherry that Amex has had taking away points. They first removed some a few weeks ago (I assume removing excess promotions), and now have taken away more. They did put back some points they took away (confusing!), but that's because they credited points before they removed points and the removal happened first (if that makes sense).

I have still earned points from the promo. No idea what deal I am on now though.

Everything is being documented and stored away ... may come in handy :) At the end of the promo I will be auditing my spend and auditing Amex's maths.

Mal,

Until your post this thread went through nearly 12 hours of silence.

I think your approach is to be commended and is what I believe all the sensible people will be doing.

Call them if you really want to know which promotion you are on. My guess would be you are on the same one as me. 'MYBONUS'....

not sure who to transfer to. Depends where I go next.

Besides, they have already told me I will get them all back :D

They then take away any standard points you earn after they "poc" you less than they think you deserve.

S

That is assuming that Amex will actually give you the points after 8-10 weeks? And not capped? You never know they would change their mind.

If they are going to delete my standard points earning it would take them a while to do this ..... and I may as well close and restart MR account :p

I am personally not that worried about them not crediting. If you do cancel your MR account wont that definitely drop you out of the bonus scheme?

Not sure what you mean about it taking Amex a while to delete your standard points earning unless you mean them progressively deleting regular points until they have removed the "excess" bonuses you have received?

After a lengthy conversation with the folk at ACCC after submitting a complaint last week in regards to the changes made and enforced by American Express, things have been escalated to the Banking and Financial Service Ombudsman for investigation.

The positive thing so far to come out of this is confirmation that retrospective changes to advertised Terms & Conditions are not permitted. Which in effect may mean the date of the 20th which various changes were set to, could and may well be changed to the 27th, which was the day they were publically made available.

This can be prosecuted under both state and federal laws, along with breaching elements of the trade practices act.

I would be confident in saying, the legal and marketing departments at Amex, may be getting into a level of panic soon, as they probably expected customers to just play along with the new rules and only go so far as potentially cancelling there account in anger over what has occurred, this wont be the case.
