10,000 bonus points per 20 transactions

yeh, as silly as it seems, somehow I have managed to spend double what I usually do on amex, all the way up to my (very small) credit limit.
paying friends' bills, etc, tho maybe i'll have trouble if they ask me why I have 3 telstra bills/mth

I have put through many many transactions on Amex, mostly shifted from other cards, but in the absence of any points posting, while others are reporting them, I am thinking of scaling back on the Amex card and going back to my old ways.

Likewise... although only for any transactions that have a surcharge, everything else still says on the AMEX.

During this promotion, I do not believe I have had any surcharges applied, so nothing to change there.

Most IT suppliers, whether wholesale or retail tend to charge a surcharge for any c/c whether it be Visa, MC or AMEX. I guess margins are thin on hardware as it is, so it all counts..

I've had surcharges with Telstra, Qantas, Cabcharge and TaxiEpay, but that's going to happen whatever card I use. There are other promotions to be taken advantage of though....

I am going to book 7 SYD-BNE returns, possibly another 1 or 2, up to end of March 2009 with the current QF specials. Normally I would pay with the Amex QF premium card but I decided I will use the Amex Gold card this time.

Assuming I book 7 returns the QF premium card would generate ~3038 QFF points and the Gold would generate ~2025 Amex MR points but generate another 7 transactions under the 10/5K promotion which are potentially worth another 3500 MR bonus points.

As I have not received any bonus points in November I am starting to regret the decision to use the Amex gold card....

Or even other Amex Cards..

If one is eligible for the Earth Plat Amex Promo Bonus of 3 points per $ (or 4 for QF spend) then where should one spend and in particular for larger sized transactions?

In theory the "Everday" promo is more generous for low to medoium spend...as long as one does not get "Capped or Culled" in some way...

But with Earth one knows one will get the points....in theory with this promo I will too..

I have two QC Membership renewals due...and I will wait till points post at the 10 weeks max period...or not before deciding which Card to pay them on.
In theory this promo will earn me 2750 MR points vs Earth Plat where it will earn 2000 QF points.

Now MR points are more valuable to me than QF....so I would prefer this promo.

No bonus though and it becomes 750 MR vs 2000 QF...in which case I would plump for the QF points.

Likewise! I normally use my Qantas Ultimate card, but for the promotion period decided to use my Gold charge card as I wanted MR points rather than QFF points. However, after being POC'd and receiving my letter confirming 10T/5K enrolment, no bonuses have been posted, despite more than sufficient transactions being made. I have just returned from the dentist (who fortunately accepts Amex) and paid my $1500 bill via the gold card - big mistake I now think  Financial and dental pain - a bad combination :(

That is the problem with AMEX Everyday Promo, People can not trust they will get their points. Many have already had points debited and many have been changed from their original promo.

I would go with Earth or anyother Credit Crad promo, just because the credibility of AMEX's Everyday is right now on the floor.

It makes little sense to me that some people are getting points and others are not. Unfortunately, one cannot even find out why, as Amex say to wait the full 10 weeks before they will even look into it.

Pretty hard to keep motivated by the promotion now.

It make little sense to you? It makes no sense to me!

I think I will persevere trying to get as many transactions just in case I see that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow....

Well after reading some more posts from people who seemed adament that their bonus points being credited this month were for November, I decided to revisit my theory and investigate a little further. Originally I stated that the bonus points currently being credited to my account were for September transactions, with a six week lag.

Let me reconfirm my situation:
  1. Registered for 5/5k promo with postcard 17 September
  2. No multiple registrations, therefore no POC or follow-up letter
  3. Received some alotment of 5,000 points up to 24 September
  4. Began receiving more alotments of 5,000 points in November
However, after counting the number of transactions from 1 November, I can now see that I am getting 5,000 points every 10 transactions, despite me never being on the 10/5k promo. I was one of the lucky ones who did not register multiple times and therefore there was no need to 'switch' me over. In fact I still have the 5/5k promo card.

One could easily jump to the conclusion that somehow I have indeed been switched over, but I think there is more to this than meets the eye. Perhaps Amex do not want to build up their points liability, and they have selected some account holders to start receiving points again, but at a set rate.

In light of this, could anyone who is also confirmed as registered for the 5/5k promo, and who is currently receiving bonus points, go and check their MR statement too? Count from 1 November and see what you find...

Maybe Amex are doing a correlation between the posts here relating to selective awarding of bonus points to ascertian our identities ...

;):p

data points:
no postcard
multiple registrations
5k points rec'd first 5 transactions after second registration
poc'd
5k points deducted
Eventually lettered ...10t/5k uncapped
no more points .....zilch
Hard copy of monthly bill and rewards summary received by post says 5k recredited.. webpage said and continues to say ... this is not so..
( left amex hand is clearly not conversing with right amex hand and brain is disengaged and out for a long lunch)

Still no more points...just checked.

I guess they hope that if they can spin us all into sufficient disbelief we may just lose interest...

Success is theirs. I will await the points due to me, but will now chase other promotions.

It's interesting that in a long promotion like this, without the instant feedback, many of us are getting "promotion fatigue". After all, many of us are uncertain if they are even getting points, when sometimes there's an effort in switching the spend from cash or other cards to Amex (different retailers, surcharges, minimum spends).

I'm looking at others that are getting points whilst I am not, but I am not convinced that it means that I'm not getting points ever. I'm going to wait it out and continue to take advantage of the promotion until 31st December, and then expect the points to be credited.

Amex said 8 - 10 weeks before points are given out. Some may well have been given "early", but really, no offence, but some of you are actiong like a bunch of little kids.

I see no reason why they will not give out the points, why are so many of you assuming you will not receive them?

"patience is a virtue"

I did not say I did not expect to receieve them - I do. If you think I am acting like a kid because I have decided to move to a different promotion then so be it.

(and I do have a much bigger beef with Amex at the moment than this promotion)

Amex is assisting enquiries about why people were turned away, including the invited postcarders, on/after 20th Sept.

Seems agencies, like the public and Amex call centre staff, are a bit confused by the way these promos were run.

And some don't think 'we can change our terms clauses' are really legal.

But what should people do? I mean do I hoard every cash reciept and m/card invoice and say 'hey I would've made a zillion points too if Amex let me join?"

I'm off to see Amex in a fortnight. I'll be asking questions. Seems recruited businesses have questions too.

Amex has a 'relationship' with all its customers, and one aspect of this promotion was to build loyalty to Amex as part of buildng that relationship. However, there are a number of other factors in that relationship and in some of those other areas, I have issues that remain unresolved.

I have had an issue with another financial institution in the last few weeks, but it was resolved and we move on. Amex is a banging head against wall exercise in comparison.

The points thing is an irritant in the scheme of things. But another institution is doing so much better at customer service at the moment.
