10,000 bonus points per 20 transactions

I have put through many many transactions on Amex, mostly shifted from other cards, but in the absence of any points posting, while others are reporting them, I am thinking of scaling back on the Amex card and going back to my old ways.

You can't tell me that Amex didn't expect 'maxing'. I wonder how many ff seats really are there in school holidays, especially with Amex making so many people 'points rich'?

Citibank is with Velocity now - thanks RickyRiccardo.
Yeah, I think its 1.5 citi to 1 velocity. More important though is Amex's reliability as demonstrated by their roughshod arbitrary activities and delays exciting suspicion about 'what'll they do next?"

Amex said 8 - 10 weeks before points are given out. Some may well have been given "early", but really, no offence, but some of you are actiong like a bunch of little kids.

I see no reason why they will not give out the points, why are so many of you assuming you will not receive them?

"patience is a virtue"

I thought they denied entry to people in 48-72 hours of the postcard and the open offer on their website.

I thought they put 5k/5t people on 5k/10T, and clawed backpoints as they felt like.

I thought they changed the conditions 5 times to save their bacon.

I even think they were planning changes as soon as Luisa read Buckscoop.

And letters purport to put the onus on the customer to prove innocence. Sorry Amex, but the onus is on amex.

Sorry, just small txs for me to build up a court case.

Have a Board meeting soon with our honorary QC. I'll ask some questions abouit damages

Another data point .. Is the sky about to fall after all ???

Bailout shift: Wednesday's selloff gained momentum after Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson said late Wednesday morning that the government will no longer use the $700 billion bailout fund to buy illiquid assets from banks, which was its original intent. (Full story)
"Indecision is the worst thing for the market," said Dave Rovelli, managing director of U.S. equity trading at Canaccord Adams.
Paulson said the Troubled Asset Relief Program would have taken too long to implement and that direct investments in financial institutions is a better way to restore confidence and ease credit conditions.
The program will also be broadened to include support for non-bank financial institutions that provide consumer credit, such as credit cards and auto loans.
The modifications come amid reports that American Express (AXP, Fortune 500) has requested an estimated $3.5 billion in aid under the bailout plan.
On Monday, AmEx got approval from the Federal Reserve to become a bank holding company, giving it greater access to Fed funding and government rescue programs.

I was a bit surpirsed to read a day or so ago that Amex had morphed into a bank all of a sudden. Of course, that would have been done with a reason.!

So what does this mean?

AmEx received approval earlier this week from the Federal Reserve to become a bank holding company, which is a similar structure to traditional commercial banks.

Thanks Serfty. I thought you would come to the rescue.

Reliable as always:D

American Express Bank has been a bank for a long while.

Dave

American Express' application relates to becoming a commercial bank. This is so that they can take deposits and also access the US governments TARP aid.

They have been reluctant to confirm they will access the aid but having a deposit base will keep the wolfs from the door for a while. The financial companies that have performed the best in the US have been deposit taking institutions. This is why a number of US investment banks such as Goldman Sachs and the like have recently made the same application.

Did anyone else notice who the spokesperson was in the NZ link. -- None other than our Luisa. She certainly gets around.

""this certainly isn't a wrap up of New Zealand operations," said Asia vice president of public affairs Luisa Megale."

Edited to add that obviously Flashware noticed and beat me to it by a millisecond

Seems that quite a few forumites are getting their bonus points, still nothing for me :( 40 transactions so far this month, only ever received 5k points in September which were POC'd back so effectively nothing received from the promotion.

Also no correspondence re a change of promo (they told me they moved me from 5k/5t to 5k/10t as I was not targetted) nor suspicious transactions.

So between getting multiple stories from Amex CSR's and no points being posted, I have no idea of my actual promotion status.

And from that NZ article, we are told that Luisa is still around

Presuming that its the same Luisa (and I would have to think that its highly likely with that name), I find it interesting that someone so high up was willing to speak out on this forum, and still be contradicted by others within Amex (CSR's and managers). Says a bit about the level of confusion at Amex really

Welcome to the no POC, no letter, no points group :) Maybe they haven't dealt with us yet

Hmmm, I don't expect to be POCked, or get a letter as I rang up and cancelled the 20T/10T promo code on my account and was left with the 10T/5K (the one the CSR said would have been my targetted promo). As for the points, I'm yet to see any but I'm not concerned (whether they are picking randomly, or in card number order, or in surname order, or in date registered). Too many options to worry about. I'm just going to continue to tranact and build up a nice points liabiilty for Amex to pay me at some stage:

Code:
Month Transactions Points Credited Points Owed

September^ 23 5,000 5,000
October 72 0 35,000
November# 31 0 15,000

^ from date of registration (18/9)
# up to and including 12/11, with at least 4 transactions to post. Goal is 90

No idea where Cabcharge are sending their transactions, but they aren't hitting my MR account (should go and see whether they are hitting my account via online transactions)

JohnK, you do know that you can buy each of your SYD/BNE/SYD tickets as two separate transactions....that'll help your transaction levels.

It's wonderful to be buying dinner on the way home...and getting SMS's from my wife to say "pick up this and that"...and having to go to multiple stores for the best deals.

Well, she's basically a public relations person, and they seldom have much idea, rather like most media people.

It does increase the fees levied though, so the value of doing so is quite dminished.

Yes, but it's an extra booking fee for another transaction - you have to decide whether the potential 500 or 1000MR points are worth the extra cost.

In JohnK's case it's currently $7.70 additional per booking per pax; that's pretty borderline @5K/10T certainly worth it @5K/5T.

There there is the opportunity to be a good eco-friendly citizen and pay the carbon offset on the Amex as well ;)
