The more reports lodged at BFSO mean its more likely the BFSO sees systemic issues that need to go to ASIC and the ACCC.
 
Did you guys notice that T&C said tx from Sep 1 counts, while CSR usually quotes tx from 'today' (date of reg) counts.

btw, my CSR told me 6-10wks normally, see even they aren't sure.

My original card said tx from Sep 10.
 
Trying to decide whether to register or not.
I have also received the new postcard for December. Does this postcard replace the other promotion or are you able to enrol in both promotions at once? I think best not to risk it and remain on the original promotion. I can't see too many transactions in December anyway....
 
However unfortunately today the owner was staffing the till.....who refused my proffered Amex Card.:(

I met one of these bozos today (Manager) at an Oporto where I've previously used Amex. Proffered my Amex for a ~$14 tx. He looks at it, and then basically says that he can't accept is as they've had issues with Amex transactions sometimes not going through properly. The way he said it (with some hesitation) made me think he just didn't want to accept it and had to make up a reason on the spot.

Ended up paying cash, and noticed while waiting for my food that their "Amex accepted" sign is still up there. +1 report going to Amex for a merchant abusing their Amex aceptance contracts.

I've just got off the phone to Amex.

Adrian was very polite and pleasant but not particularly clued-up.
He put me on hold while he talked to MR for 3 or 4 minutes then said bonus points would begin re-appearing 10 weeks from the end of October!! When I asked about the balance of the Sept points owing to me (20,000) he was very vague and said he'd put a note on my file that I'd like my bonus points ASAP ie - He fobbed me off.
Next Wed, which is 10 weeks from the end of Sept, if my Sept points haven't posted, the BFSO will have one more complaint to deal with.

If I could be confident of the points posting from mid-January onward I'd probably be happy to wait but the fact is, I've lost all confidence in Amex and I might as well get my complaint in sooner rather than later.

Issues with it not going through properly. The moron probably means that sometimes AMEX will decline when it cannot communicate properly through the bank system. I had the twice over the past week at two places.

They simply tried again and it went though

Interesting conversation with Amex customer service a few days ago. I was talking to them about other things when I mentioned this promotion and they said this promotion has been cancelled because of abuse. What about the people that have not abused the promotion? CSR still taking the same stance giving various examples. To the guy(s) who paid a $1,000 bill in $1 transactions you are a moron!

OK I have a letter that confirms I am on 10T/5K. Hang on while I speak to MR people. Came back a couple of minutes later confirming that I am enrolled in the promotion and that points will credit withing 6-8 weeks witihin the end of the month. Yet another time frame mentioned from an Amex represantitve.

Assuming that September is OK for me then I need to wait between 12 Dec- 26 Dec to see if my October bonus points have posted. Interesting times ahead....
 
Checked the MR account this morning. All the points owed for Nov in the account by 3/12:)!!!!!

What about Amex yelling 'free money' and starting a stampede?

On 18/9/08 I called about something totally unrelated to any promo. I was very surprised by the 'helpful advice' from the csr. The BFSO and other agencies were aware, on 18/9/09, about the types of transactions Amex reps were saying were acceptable. I don't have a mobile phone and can barely email (on a neighbours internet) who was totally aghast at learning one could actually pay off Vodaphone in tiny transactions. (Why on earth does Vodaphone allow that????). I've asked Amex to provide the BFSO with the operational manual and the instructions given to call centre staff and the recorded 'quality control' conversations. To my way of thinking, Amex has itself to blame. I also believe Amex should have emailed and written immediately. It should have put clarification on the homepage and on the e-statements and paper statements.

Well that is Amexe's spin anyway..and no doubt what they have told their CSRs.

Much more palatable for them than telling their staff that their Marketing Dept was grossly incompetent in 1/ calculating the bonus rate, 2/ writing appropriate T&C (ie as per all their other promos) and then 3/ execution in allowing non-targeted people to sign up.

Genuine abuse such as paying one bill in tiny increments should have always been able to be addressed by the overriding general provisions of the MR T &C.


What about the people that have not abused the promotion? ....

In my mind that is probably 99.9% of cardmembers.
As mentioned way back at the start of this thread...the real problem Amex have is not abuse of the promo..but use.

Simply put the promo is just way too generous.

Unlimited tx....no minimum $ tx size...and a a huge bonus per tx...was always going to result in high numbers of tx.

This is simply use of what Amex offered and not abuse at all.

I don't think that the 1000 bill phone-guy had much to do with it....and has been now covered off on and tightened up with the amended T&C.

This IMO was clearly a mistake promo...which once Amex realised that they had stuffed up was always going to have the brakes put on it. This why the cap was put in place and why many with postcards who did not register quick enough have missed out.

Again Amexe's real problem is not abuse..it is use.

2 lots of 5000 have posted to my a/c just recently (i.e. within the last week).
 
Was at a trendy bar tonight, I asked if they accept AMEX the answer is yes. This was after checking on the AMEX website first, so I knew the answer should be yes.

I order a round of drinks which comes to $38 I give them the card, and them I am told the minimum for EFTPOS is $50

Yes. I only had 19 transactions in September. I received 10,000 bonus points initially and was then POC'ed 5,000 bonus points in early October. So I think September is up to date but no bonus points received since.

I'm still in the samw, no points posted queue. I suspect that the postcard that asked me to sign up for Dec is a bad sign.
