Well no bonus points for me today..

But then as I originally received points for all three promos, with a 10 week lag and allowing for me to pay back the double rate of points I calculate that by around todays date date (Dec 10) that my points points should commence again.
So hopefuly tomorrow or the day after they will.

No letter received. I was senta postacrd for the 5K/5 originally.

Data points now:

Non-targetted
Enrolled in all three original promotions pre-20 Sept
Rang up and cancelled all by MYREWARD on 19th Sept
Received bonus points for all three until 24th Sept
No points posted since 24th Sept
Confirmed after lengthy investigations with CSR that I was only on MYREWARD now.
Not POCed
Received card in email encouraging me to spend on card for Christmas ("as per the T&C of the original mailer" on the new card
No notification yet that I have been moved onto another promtion
No bonus points at all recently

I'll be really interested to see if as the CSR said above, the 10K/5T letters were a mistake. However, no-one knows any more - the info given today is conflicting and we're none the wiser.

Anyone in contact with Executive Relations got the inside info on whether the letters were real or a mistake? I suspect it's the former.

Maybe they were real ... until someone realised they had made a mistake. I can't work out Amex. They seem like headless chickens running around in circles. Very amateur behavior.

Almost everyone has a different scenario and there is no rhyme or reason why points are appearing and for which transactions.

I was not targetted, enrolled for all 3 promotions pre September 20, received bonus points in September, POCed some bonus points in October, received a letter early October confirming I have been moved onto the 10T/5K promotion uncapped and did not receive any more bonus points until this afternoon.

I guess we will have an explanation in due course....

As stated by Amex, the points posted today are for September transactions only, most have been credited in full (all transacs to 30SEP08), however some still have points pending.
To remind us all about today's bonus points posting...if you trust what Amex are saying

I received a letter today signed off by Corinna Davison, Vice President Brand, Loyalty & Rewards saying that I was never sent an invitation via mail and that I had been placed on the 10T/5 "MYBONUS" offer....

Anyways, the phone call, as mentioned previously clarified that I was on the "MYREWARD" promotion, and that several hundred people had been sent this letter in error (the supervisor in the MR team stated that they were getting flooded with calls regarding this).
Those receiving this letter (like cardiology, oliverd) need to remember that file51 made this comment earlier today.

Yes, but are they saying the error was sending the letter to those receiving the invite card or do they include those registered before Sep 20? The letter refers to the the FAQs on their website, I just checked it and it remains the same (my bolding):

For Cardmembers who enrolled in the Promotion prior to 20 September, the original bonus points offer remains unchanged and there is no limit to the amount of bonus points you can earn during the Promotion period as long as your transactions are for legitimate everyday spend*. This was communicated to these Cardmembers via our call centre teams or the enrolment website page.

snufl, I suppose it depends on whether the couple of hundred letters sent in error was the sum total of all letters sent, or only a proportion. I hope for all it is the former, not the latter.

Aww come on Lindsay, not good enough, I want a definite answer ;):)

My wife and I both received the 5T/5K promo, and I registered. My wife for some reason couldn't register. She doesn't use her card much (it's a corporate card, and she's on maternity leave). I use mine a lot for personal and work, and my wife has a linked card - I'd do 100+ transaactions and > $10K month average.

A friend at work who also has similarly high usage also received the promo.

Since then, I've received a capped 10T/5K promo which I haven't registered for... I'm wondering if it's a strategy to get people off the uncapped 5T/5K and onto a lesser, capped promo. Or this may be must my conspiracy theory...

My situation:

No card, registered ONCE for the 5T/5k pre-19th, confirmed multiple times over telephone that i'm in the unlimited group.

two lots of 5000 bonus points in september, then nothing since. Not POC'd either.

Never received any correspondence in the mail from AMEX re: anything at all.

They owe me a hell of a lot of points.

How much longer should i wait before i do something? At present, the only thing AMEX hasn't lived up to (in my case) is the timing of the bonus points posting. I have not been informed of anything different from the original promotion that i signed up for (which was reiterated on the website via the amended T&C - still current at American Express, Bonuspoints FAQ)

IF there is anyone here that's familiar with common laws - is it legal to retrospectively change T&C to suit them? Or do they have a legal obligation to honour what they promised? I've been religiously reading this forum, and frankly i don't have a good feeling about how amex appears to be screwing us all. i'd like to know where i stand with this.

Thanks.

BenHadi

BenHadi - sounds similar to my situiation. I received about 5x 5K in September; nothing since the 23rd. I was told today I was still in the 5T/5K promo, and points would be credited this week. Seems to be stretching the "10 weeks" slightly, and as you suggest it must be generating a lot of calls to Amex and confusion...

Somehow it doesn't feel so bad knowing that i'm not the only one. Hope points would start posting this week. Been waiting too long for it.

Just out of curiosity, what kinda amex do you have?

Platinum Credit Card, with four linked cards - personal, extra one for work expenses and one for my wife, plus a Gold charge card which I rarely use.

Benhadi, on 18 Sept various regulators said Amex can't resile from representations by call centre people and said Amex rely on certain 'terms' (including a possible attempt to shut the promo totally or exclude all non-invitees and/or exclude 'late' invitees ).

Then, lo and behold, the boom was lowered to quarantine liability to different groups. FAQs were changed to say "Rather than cancel a great promotion, we (Amex) decided to amend the terms (to cap people enrolled later)". The FAQs also said non invitees were on the offer they accepted before 20/9/08: and then we see Amex poc'ing, capping, and delaying. Behind the scenes Amex is speaking to card holders trying to get 'admissions' to breaches (eg leaving a card at a bar as a tab!!!). FOS will soon be getting letters drafted by MR via Exec Services saying "Mr Blog admitted ....'. I'm told there's Presidential-level input into these letters causing delays.

Meantime those who got in early to Financial Ombudsman Service :: Home Page have rulings that bind Amex.

The FOS is the only way to make sure Amex can't change the T&Cs again.

The FOS also brief all case workers on developments so let them sort things out.

Bear in mind that most lay people who get these Xmas promos or the latest letter will cop it sweet or accept the deal without knowing they're maybe giving up 5/5. Maybe Amex will change your deal again later. So go to Financial Ombudsman Service :: Home Page and let them decide. And because the ACCC and ASIC can also obtain enforceable undertakings, go to their websites and log a complaint.

May I ask what exactly has this acheived for you so far, or are you still waiting on a call/letter/return call/investigation etc ?

Not interested in wasting time if nothing comes of it

Whilst I haven't yet launched my complaint with the Ombudsman, I am about to. I have experience in lodging complaints with other Ombudsman services.

I think it's unfair to say that nothing has been achieved by vet merely that there have been no rulings. These processes are slow, and meticulous, and aim to provide fairness to both sides (you and the financial provider). As vet has mentioned, discussions with them suggest that Amex are doing things that are unfavourable (retrospectively changing T&Cs, etc.) and this is now at the "systemic investigation" level with the Ombudsman.

If you do not get resolution with Amex, then the Ombudsman is the best avenue to get resolution - it is free, relatively easy, and it's binding on Amex.

Didn't mean it like that, I was just asking if anything had been resolved yet :)

I must have missed that bit, glad it's being investigated :)

I don't think anyone has had resoution with AMEX to their sastifaction ;) At the moment I am just spending as much as I can on worthwhile purchases based on the 10/5 promo which I was never invited into anyways, so I consider myself lucky.

Received 5000 points pm yesterday.

I have no idea if this is just a nice christmas freebie (hahahahaaaa) ,or the first instalment on my10t/5k promo.

If it is the latter they are again making heaps of work for themselves by not spelling out the maths that support their result.
I have MY math , as do many thousands of others, I surmise.

Another nail in the amex credibility coffin .. or work in progress .. time will tell.
