My question is - has anyone opened a case with FSO purely on the basis of late payment? I have been assured four times by Amex I am on the original 5T/5K scheme, but have not received points for over 14 weeks (I reported in an earlier post that I was given "firm" date of mid-Jan)."

1. If anyone has, there'll be a time lag. FOS has a backlog of 3 weeks just opening a file. Then it gives Amex 30 days. If Amex refuses to agree to your request, then FOS starts a process. Then sometime later the Ombudsman makes a decision that binds Amex. In other words, months could go by. Hence, get in the front of the queue with a complaint to FOS sooner than later, imo. After all, unless these points are 'good' for QFF after 1/4/09, they're not much good for many people.

2. Beware that csrs and computers say you're on things but the people in MR - who devised this promo - are known to say the opposite. Caesar is deciding if Caesar is right?

3. The goal posts move too often.

So one of my friends has just received the two letters

The first saying you have been moved to 5/10
Then an apology saying you have been moved back to 5/5

Unfortunately I am still stuck on the 5/10 after "multi enrolling"

But the fact that YET AGAIN, Amex have stuffed up their mail outs does make me laugh.

I am now using my friends card on the 5/5 instead of mine which is on 5/10

Thanks Amex!

To clarify, I am using his card for online shopping, donations etc etc of course I cannot use it physically in stores as the signatures will not match.

He is happy for me to get/take his points :)

I will transfer them to his Qantas account and then family transfer to my name :p;)

Personally I think he is crazy to not use his card for himself.

While I agree, I think that anyone who posts on this forum would say that, as we are all slightly obsessed with points :oops:

He doesn't fly that much and just "can't be bothered" with the hassle of using credit cards and the Amex hassle in more places (Speaking of which two restaurants which I used to visit weekly have stopped taking Amex  The first as they are new owners and they are "waiting for Amex to set them up" and the other as they are trying to cut costs)

There is also another new business near me, which has been opened for two months and they are still using "we are waiting for AMEX to set us up" I spoke to the owner the other day and pushed this, in a nice way, and she insisted they will take Amex, eventually..... I dont' believe them somehow...

Back to the topic at hand, I know lots of people that dont' care and don't know the best value for points.

I know of a few people with their own business who have millions of Amex points and usually waste them on $100 vouchers  One of the worst returns on points from memory.

I have even offered to buy points from them at a better rate than voucher, as I can still make $$$$ from doing so

Well luckily for you then that he was at least "bothered" enough to register his card in the 3 day window available for the promo......and to then not want to use it (which is why I made the comment I did that having registered that he is then crazy to not take advantage of it...)

Yep he read the promo on another Forum and thought he would go for it, but once he was POCed and received the you are now on 10/5 letter he thought it was too much effort and the points would never come.

I think that the letters, delays and POCing is all part of Amex's plan to stop people using their card as much and reduce their liability.

Sending letters in the 2nd week of December advising of changes effective 1st October is "interesting"

It only gives people 10 or so days to maximise use of their card

Data point.

No T posted from the weekend yet (as expected) so as of Friday evening I was at 72T with 120K points posted under the promo and and 166K owing :)

Over the weekend I had I think 14T and today mrssimongr does her Xmas shopping.

I dont think that I will crack 150T for the month but we wont be far off.

The financials of my weekend at Chadstone :) have posted (except that last couple last night), which has for the most part concluded my Christmas shopping.

I finished all my Christmas shopping in November.... so December has had very few tx

4000 posts + is enough!

After December 31 we should all stop using our Amex cards until all points are allocated to us under the original terms of the promotion.

Amex may then get the message that their games, misinformation and delaying tactics have backfired.

In the meantime, if you join Earth Platinum before January 10, Qantas Frequent Flyers can get 20,000 points (worth $200) for a reduced annual fee of $125 for the first year, plus 3 points per $ until March 31.

Nice idea but I personally do not want another credit card or credit check and am happy with my permanent 1.5 points/$.

I just want my other (likely) 200K points...

I have always intended swapping to my new Earth Platinum from Jan 1 (at least until Mar 31).
Last Monday I was told by Amex that my points would be posted to my account by the end of the week. Here we are, another Monday has arrived, but no points. I am now taking the first step in the complaint process and putting my complaint in writing to Amex. I have been patient long enough

There are many MANY accounts in this thread of Amex promising to deliver by certain days, and then failing to do so.

Add to this that they are clearly in breach of their own T&C on when points should be posting and one can see that Amex is quite clearly up to funny business at present.

For most now you will not know if you are getting points till after Dec 31 when the promo will have finished.

Others such as me have been sent suspension letters...but with no clue as to what it is that they are unhappy about. (My guess is it is more that I was a very high transactor)

The approach seems designed to have people minimise their spend as Amex stall, and stalls......handling out small bonuses to a few....but even those would seem to be getting less than they are entitled to.

If the points had been posting as they should have been no doubt many would have been motivated to go and and spend more, and IMO this is the last thing Amex wants to do at present.

Well, a poor weekend of transactions I think (but can't tell as Amex still haven't posted Friday, Saturday or Sunday's transactions to my account). Seems that Mrs LW had done most of the Xmas shopping so was just the last minute ones we did on the weekend.

Code:
Month Transactions Points Credited Points Owed
September^ 23 10,000 0+
October 70 10,000 25,000~
November 102 0 50,000
December# 89 0 40,000

^ from date of registration (18/9)
# up to and including 19/12. Goal is 150, so I'm back behind target :( and will be exacerbated by weekend [That would make an overall target of 155K bonus points]
+ Points owed were 5,000 but paid on 10/12
~ Points owed were 35,000 but 10,000 paid on 10/12

Re: end of january

:shock::shock:

I'm told by the 2nd in command that all my Oct, Novembre & December points for quite a few flights on the 5/5 deal are only a month away. Maybe it'll take 30 days to count them by hand

Question: do ff seats open 11 months before you need them: I need 3 ff seats for 8'ish Jan 2010 to fly Syd-Honolulu-SanFran return on V.
