Going by the constant whinging, there must be a hell of a lot of Poms on this board!

err cough cough... you obviously have not been:

* sent an abuse letter where they do not actually say what or how..but demand you prove it is not abuse!!!!
* moved from a promo that you registered for (not I, but has happened to many)
* denied points posting as per the T&C

Whinging my friend is complaining when there is not a valid reason for the complaint.

I would also note that over the last few years that Amex did not award my wife and I about 100,000 points which we only got by following up and complaining to Amex . A meek and accepting attitude would have had me screwed out of 100,000 points.

So sit back and relax if you wish....but I will as I have done in the past "whinge" to Amex to get what was ageed upon....for it is regular practice of their to get people in on promos, or bonus eals and then not deliver what was promised whether it be points or coffee machines (and yes a coffee machine was another item I had to "whinge" to get after it failed to arrive.

I will deal with Amex as I have done in the past:
* firm
* polite
* logically
* as per the T&C (where in each case it has been Amex trying to wiggle out)
* but will not accept no, when it should be a yes

This promo will be like many in the past...I will get my points, but will probably have to repeatdely contact them to get them.
Unlike in the past I might have to involve an outside agency.

Previous post isn't talking about what you did/didn't say to Amex. Previous post is talking about all the whinging *on this forum*. A point you appear to have missed.

The whole point of this promotion was to increase the use of the American Express card. That being the case, your previous transaction history has no relationship to how much you have used it for the past few months.

There's a huge number of places that I never realised accepted Amex - this promotion has changed that awareness.

What I do know is Amex promoted "everyday spending". For most of us who joined around Sep 17-19 the promo runs for 104-106 days.
No one can argue that 5, 6 or even 8 transactions per day for "everyday purchases" is excessive .

For those on the 5T/5k promo, 5 - 8 transactions per day means in excess of 500,000 - 800,000 points. I've just looked back at my pre-promo Amex statements and my "normal" TXs were about 2-3 per day. My transactions have increased during the promo to just over 5 per day.

hehe, who reads posts here anymore anyway? it's post 1st, whinge 2nd, then accuse someone of abuse 3rd. :p

That's what you get if you don't actually read the posts glass - you only see what you think is here. There is a lot of cr4p, whingeing and bullsh1t but there is also a theme of information sharing - maybe we could focus on that rather than the whingeing?

Can't agree more. This forum has become a goldmine of information on this promotion, and understanding how it has unfolded.

United we standed, divided...

Now that is amusing.. a "whinge" on too much "'whinging"....a point you appear to have missed.

Thanks for your whinge anyway.

Actually, the dictionary definition of whinge is "to complain or protest, especially in an annoying or persistent manner", regardless of the reason.

Indeed, the word actually stems from the word "whine". Quite apt really, in respect of a large amount of the posts in this thread!!

There's a goldmine of info in these pages. And a regulator asked me for a summary sometime ago because there was no wiki at the time.

I recently got a letter from Amex stating that I have been suspended from the bonus points offer due to potential abuse. I called them up and spoke to a MR staff who said that they cannot resolve this over the phone and that I needed to put this in writting. I was wondering if anyone else have had success resolving it over the phone? By the time they receive my written reply the offer period would have lapsed and I would have no opportunity to earn more points.

And of course now that there is the wiki, people need to update it and give it a depth of (correct) detail so that it can be used to quickly summarise what the promo was and where things are at.

My suggestion - lodge your complaint with Amex stating that you will continue to spend as if on the promo. Then if they maintain their abuse line, complain to the BFSO and ask for points to be paid on the T post the abuse letter as well.

I'd be writing something like:

Dear Amex.
I refute any and all allegations from you that I have abused this promotion, and do not appreciate that you are now on a fishing expedition looking for ways to not fulfill your side of the promotion. I will continue to spend on my Amex card and expect that I will earn the correct amount of points for these transactions as per the promotion that I signed up for.

From your letter, you indicate that only some of my transactions are suspect to Amex. Within the next 7 days, please advise which particular transactions you consider suspicious, so that I can provide an appropriate response to your concerns. Should your response be inadequate or not forthcoming, then I will refer this matter to the FSO.

Sincerely yours. Big Spender.

Have had no luck with the CSR - she was unable to advise why or which transactions (apparently it was blocked). She did state that the system appeared to show that I had already replied to this abuse letter (which is wrong, because it is still being drafted).

Just assume you will still be on the offer, this is merely Amex trying to limit the people participating. After all, they don't threaten to kick you out of the Membership Rewards program !! They just dont want to pay up and they have scr3w3d their response (obviously being run by someone who has no idea about customer service).

No whinging on my part. I merely made a statement of fact about what the previous poster had written. You then wrote something completely irrelevant about how you had dealt with American Express.

Previous poster was talking about posts on this forum, not dealings with American Express.

Again, this is a statement of fact, not a whinge or complaint.

I have no idea why you find it amusing - your sense of humour is obviously different to mine.

As the other people have mentioned above, those of us that have received these letters are contesting them. Amex appear to be trying to induce people to stop spending before the end of the promotion. However, if you stop running up transactions on your Amex, then you won't be eligible for any bonus points for this part of the month, even if Amex were to reverse their decision!

I think we're at the point that we suspected a long time ago that Amex was going to reach - that they have no real reason not to pay up under the terms and conditions, but they're still not doing it anyway. I suspect that people will continue to get these sorts of letters even after the promotion is over, in an attempt to retrospectively limit things, which puts them on rocky ground.

Bottom line, you're going to have to do what everyone else here is going to have to do - continue to spend on your Amex, and then argue the point with American Express about having the points that you should have received actually credited.

...whinging...

Guys, if we could maybe take this to Private Messages and keep this thread marginally about the Amex promotion?

Not trying to add to it - and not blaming anyone - just a general request that we move forward rather than get tied down on this. There are other threads on this board that are better for this sort of thing!

beardoc,
why PM only? Surely they are trying to contribute it to making 10000 posts for this thread ;)
