10,000 bonus points per 20 transactions

Based on my transactions the bonus points seem correct for September and October but Amex has posted these points in a weird way and with little explanation. Maybe it will all make sense some day. I have a headache and a flight to catch....

I am debating whether to write to American Express seeking clarification - my points awarded bear no relation to what I should be owed under this promotion either.

I've given up worrying about it ... nor am I really trying to reconcile.

I've received over 170K bonus MR points in total - more than I would have received under 5K/10T but less than 5K/5T ...

Already moved some on to SPG for specific purposes ...

As I revisit the postcard, I was reminded that the offer was based on the number of transactions made in each month. Therefore would an account payment be considered a transaction on the card? I miscalculated my spends for October and am short of one purchase to make 20. Sigh.

Like everyone else, my remaining September and October points have posted with November and December to come (@150k).

Did anyone receive a phone call last week from AMEX apologising for the delays and advising that all remaining points will be posted by January 31?

The phone call was very apologetic and almost to the point of grovelling.

I've had nothing from AMEX about the promotion at any time during the promotion.

Did you ever call or write to them about this promotion ?

I know of several people who have written to Amex and had no reply!

No phone call here, then again I don't answer private numbers

I haven't had anything about this, but I usually get a number when Amex calls me, usually a Sydney number.

bravoecho, I can imagaine that they were grovelling to you and Mrs BE considering the significant level of your monthly spend through the card :o

Alas, no phone call here, but I am patiently waiting for the 10 week dates to see them meet their side of the agreement.

I received a call within days of BFSO writing to Amex. Magically everything was fixed up - but I have to wait maybe til the end of this month for the last of the bonusesii. Fingers crossed I get the rest of the bonii in time to see if Velocity's 'outta this world' promo is tempting.

" ..... significant monthly spend.....?"

I was told by an AMEX telephone supervisor, that the promotion was directed towards those card holders who do not spend on their cards, and this promotion was to encouraged " everyday spending habits ".

Thus, my record shows an " everyday spending habit ", and that's why I was not invited.

Yet, from this thread, I note virtually the full range of card use, from a few transactions a month, through to tens of thousands of $.

I consider AMEX staff to be liars. I haven't heard an honest word from them, about this promotion ( and the others like it ). I've spoken to so called 'supervisors' three times, and had a different story from each one.

They all claim, " I'll check with Marketing, and get back to you ". When they do get back, there's a variation in the excuses.

Needless to say, I didn't get a single point from any of the promotions, and AMEX Plat CC is my primary everyday card. Basta*ds !!!!

GORDO

Which promo did you get the points under? Just one or all three?

I think that was the original plan, but much with this promo went awry. I wouldn't say the staff were liars, and I certainly believe that the original promotion would have been at the lower end transactors.

Why would you target high transactors? They use the card anyway.

Correct Marketing 101... As per the Amex T&C's

"
This year we have made a significant effort to increase the number of businesses where American Express Cards are welcomed. The purpose of the offer was to encourage Cardmembers to spend with these businesses.

Cardmembers were selected based on:
  • Where they live – in areas where we had signed the most businesses
  • How often they use their Card – the offer was structured based on a Cardmembers current and likely use of their Card.
It is common practice for American Express and other organisations to target offers at specific customers. "

simongr, I had nothing show until 3 Jan and then it updated for 2nd & 3rd Jan transactions (no transactions on 1/1). Haven't bothered to check yet today for 4/1 transactions (who cares anyway, promo over). The only reason I am checking is to see the bonuses post on time (or before time would be better) :D

It seems that there are many and varied ways that Amex works - what they do for one is not for all - so must be a very manual process in their back office. Oh the costs that this promo must be eating
