10,000 bonus points per 20 transactions

So it would appear that post Dec 31, when a lot of points were dished out that the supply of bonus points has largely been turned off?????

As I would imagine that Amex has a huge liability from this it would not surprise to see this strung out a while as a lot of the points if awarded will quite possibly be transfered swiftly to other programs. When they are transferred it of couse becomes a "real" cost that Amex then has to fund by paying for the points transferred.

While some Members have been told by CSR's that all points would be paid by Jan 31..I would imagine that Amex will stick closer to 10 weeks from earn.

Still no reply from Amex to me on my suspension. Though the form letter did state that they may take upto 30 days to reply and it has only been a fortnight.

I've just spent nearly an hour on the phone with MR concerning the 15000 I'm owed from Sept/Nov/Dec. The best I could get was an acknowledgement that I am owed the points, a lot of "we understand your postion" and a promise that the points would be awarded no later than January 31 due to a "glitch".

It would have been far cheaper for them to give me the points after 5 minutes and save themselves the cost of trying to placate me.

But, but, but, if Amex were to give all the points owed by say, next week, then half the pople on this thread would have nothing to complain/speculate about!!

Not too mention they would also have to find something else to do with their time instead of posting on this board daily.

And you would be able to free up a tiny part of your busy and important schedule not having to whinge about whinging..

I would be more than happy to stop posting in this thread if I get 186K points next week...

Rather an obvious statement is it not?

err..yes that would be working out how to spend the points gained.;) So get ready for a new thread!!!

Out of interest how many points did you earn by Dec 31?

Like a number on this forum Amex, owe me over a million points and Amex have not abided by their own T&C in awarding bonus points gained and have been thoroughly unprofessional from the first day of the promo up and until your very post, and no doubt will continue to be for a while yet.. This no doubt colours my degree of interest....and the matters I speculate on...as well as fuelling matters for speculataion and discussion.

It also has me with so much at play, eager to read anything that may be of advantage to me.

I am one of the naughty multi-enrollers who were moved to the 10T/5K. Based on my firm belief that I am entitled to at least 5K/5T I am owed about 500K for a total of about 800K. I was going pretty nuts to rack up that many transactions while preventing bankruptcy and avoiding "bill splitting" so kudos to those who cracked a 1000+ transactions.

Back at you lovetravellingoz: Just how many points did you earn in total? I assume you've already been paid at least 250K (please correct me if I am wrong) and you are still owed over a million!

Chicken has not hatched yet.....but yes. ;)

To me the 1000 points per tx were worth a fair bit and so I treated it as a tax free part-time job. I knew from the first moment that it was a "mistake" promo in terms of the bnus rate offered.

I shopped hard for the first week believing that Amex would can it at any moment (but would honour what had been bought till then).

However to my amazment they kept it going to Dec 31 and so I kept shopping, albiet at a slower rate that the first week.

I view this as a once in lifetime promo opportunity and so yes decided to make the most of it.

Amex called it an Everday Promo..and by and large I spent part of each every day shopping. Some days more than others. Some days just a quick dash...other days yes for an hour or two. Quite amazing how many tx per hour one can do with a bit of research, analytical thinking and planned execution.

My total spend per month increased but one upside to shopping every day was that most of what I bought was on genuine sale (as opposed to the many stores that have sale items which are not)or at best-price, and so I actually saved money in the process even allowing for some extra cups of coffee and the odd milk-shake!!.

for example one daughter loves bananas and so I buy them often.

Buy visiting supermarkets daily at least one store would have them as a loss-leader and so most weeks I would buy them for only a $1 or so per kilo.

DSE had an amazing mark down on Wii games...and so I bought half a dozen for only $10-20.

Also bought half a dozen Nintendo DS games brand new marked down to only $5-10... etc etc..

Noted Amexes concerns on bill splitting and so avoided that and instead shopped a lot, at lot of different businesses.

Still chicken not hatched yet as bonus points are not awarded.

I suspect that we won't see just how many points people earned until after American Express has paid out the points owed in full, which judging from the way things are going, could be some time.

Besides with Amex changing the rules does anyone really know what they have earnt yet?

When I settled, the lass counted the txs one by one til 30 November, and I quantified the debt. I will not be happy if I miss out on bonuses to send, maybe, to Velocity after it reveals its next promo.

It strikes me as odd that people are reluctant to reveal their point earn as if it will somehow incriminate them. Surely AFF forumites have nothing to hide?

There are certain notable exceptions to this seemingly excessive desire for anonymity including simongr and JohnK.

pomjim,

The paranoid (quite a few people here) could simply re post the same rubbish for the umpteenth time and that should get about another 1000 posts on the thread.

What? 1.25 million points?

Unbelievable !!!

Me? .... Nil. Zero. Zilch.

I just can't believe how I missed 'the boat'.....

GORDO

I got an FSO letter today. They have given Amex until 2 Feb to resolve this. If not resolved by then, I need to give the FSO permission to chase Amex.

Not really..

The promo ran for more than an 100 days.

Just each day buy:

Newspaper
Bread
Morning Tea/Coffee
Snack
Lunch
Afternoon Tea/Coffee
Wine
Meat for Dinner
Fruit & Veg
Milk

And you have a million points....

Then add bills, xmas shopping, clothes, photo printing, bus tickets, music, petrol, movies, etc etc and you gain some more.....

1000+ tx was pretty easy...but yes time consuming.....

Not so unbelieveable. I'm on the 5T/5K promo and have received 175K points so far and have no reason to believe that Amex won't cough up the 370K points they still owe me. A total of 545K without really trying. (average of less than 6 trans per day).
