Well, I'm still waiting. grrr.

Keep pushing.

IMO if I had not pushed back (politely, but consistently) I would only have about 380K rather than 2.8 Million.

To be fair to Amex they considered and accepted all my arguments....and also to be fair if I was handing out such a large awrd I would probably want to verify things too.

The silver stripe on the back of my card is now a lot more black than silver...as it has worn away.

Never happened before.;)

One of my AMEX cards is somewhat the same after the promo - and also the clear laminate has come off most of the front of the card too (peeling separately from 3 of the 4 corners).

I'll advise my final points pay out when they finally arrive - but suffice to say it won't come close to yours lovetravellingoz (expecting it to be about half).

Update;

  • I have gone back and looked through all points awarded now
  • Amex would seem to have fully paid for all tx (or close enough)
  • The bonus points awarded would also seem to include return of the points I was POCed in Oct.
  • Therefore final Promo Points gained would appear to be 2.825 Million :)
Goodluck to the many members I have been PM-ing with for a while over gaining of the points owed to us as we swapped tips and advice, some of whom are still awaiting their final payouts..

Now you really need to go to places like Maldives and Bora Bora using points enjoy your Points Run hardwork!!!!!! Suggestion: Hilton Maldives and Bora Bora .... Amex -> Hilton HHonors is 1000:1000 .....

amex did come through with all the bonus points that were owed me. for reference:

- no postcard
- enrolled in the mybonus on the web on sept 17
- called customer service two days later and asked them to cancel the mybonus enrollment and enrol me in myreward (5t/5k) instead. (note: i kept fastidious notes and screen shots through the whole process)
- points stopped accruing on or around sept 24. never received any more until this week.
- never POC-ed
- received the infamous demotion letter relegating me to 10t/5k in mid october
- wrote a protest letter in november. didn't hear anything back so wrote again in january and registered with the FOS
- in early feb received a letter from amex confirming that "after careful investigation...." they would credit me for the 5t/5k
- approx 410,000 points earned (all inclusive) which is exactly accurate as best i can tell
- balance of points credited earlier this week
- got a letter yesterday from the FOS that they are extremely busy due to an unusual, sudden influx of complaints and won't be able to get to my case for a while. so obviously amex did the right thing on their own w/o having to be pushed by the FOS. have now cancelled the complaint.

my hat is off to you lovetravellingoz. i thought i worked hard to get the comparatively small number of transactions that i did compared to you. i admire your focus and drive to get that many transactions. congratulations.

also, thanks to amex for doing the right thing and paying up what was rightly due. because they were so slow, i expected i would have to fight (and was prepared to) but they made good.

Congratulations Loves. As you worked full time promoting Amex's card, maybe you should ask them for overtime.

Keep the faith Yeti.

*hi, first time poster*
I just discovered this thread through another forum and spent the last couple of days having fun reading a lot of it :)

I too, registered for this promo (was given the postcard for 5/5) and was very happy with just over 100k points I earned.

I may have tried to spend more on my amex if I had discovered this thread earlier.;)

But it's good to see that many have benefited from the promo. :)

Thank you Straitman,

I wish the best for the others still fighting for their points.

Still waiting :(

As mentioned, if you have not already followed up with Amex I would recommend doing so.

I always took the tack of being polite, but firm and willing to answer any and all questions....and yes persistent as repeated follow up seemed necessary.

I have been seeking enrolment in the 5/5 promotion with a Qantas card since late Sept - (sent by mail to Amex my screen shot of the webpage dated 21/9/08, no mention of Qantas card being excluded - letter from Amex in Jan '09 rejected my request based on the offer was only available to Membership rewards program cards).
FOS was contacted and has replied that I need to supply them evidence of suffering a loss as a result of Amex's misleading original T & C 's - any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I guess the key here is did you at anytime get registered?

If Amex did not accept a registration from you in at least one level of the promo, then I would guestimate that you will not be successful.

Numbers fascinate me and I am bored so did some quick calculations based on random observations and curiosity on my part.

I just had my first batch of points post since Sept 24.

After losing some a bit later when the "Days of Poccing" were upon us.

Today another 2.4 million points appeared.

IMO if I had not pushed back (politely, but consistently) I would only have about 380K rather than 2.8 Million.
If my assumption is correct that would make 380 transactions from Sep 17-24, as you mention the day points stopped posting, which is 8 days at ~47 transactions per day. On the assumption of 5-10 minutes per transaction that is ~4-8 hours spent shopping.

An average of approximately 27 transactions per day :confused: (Sep 20-Dec 31)
My first promo spend was on Sep 17.
The Amex promotion ran for 106 days and ~2825 transactions in that time is ~26.5 transactions per day. Achievable but requires a lot of hard work. On the assumption of 5-10 minutes per transaction this would equate to at least 2-4 hours spent shopping everyday sometimes more if you are going from aisle to aisle in a supermarket or from shop to shop in a shopping centre and no waiting time in queues.

All very interesting and I am sure you are sick of shopping by now. Enjoy the windfall....

I remember lovestravellingoz mentioned that he treated this like a part time job - he was prepared to put in the time because he was calculating that the reward divided into the time and the money that he had to spend. If you just measure it in RTW J fares on SQ, then he earned at least 11 of these, which are about $10,000 to $13,000 if you were to buy them individually.

That means he's netted up to $140,000 worth of airfares for his time (not instubstantial) and about $28,000 (by his reference of about $10 per transaction).

Not a bad effort, I'd say!

Add to that the 456 posts (to date) in this thread and I am sure he is ready to get his life back .
