Re: Still trying to pick myself up from the floor...

This one has to be recommended for Post of the Year surely???

After wading through countless pages and numerous posts of dribble this is a stand out, kind of reminds of the light bulb thread but we wont get into that one will we?

Thanks thegurio, I try my best. I can't believe I'm back for some more..... this is a loathsome, offensive brute (thread), yet I can't look away.

I'm a relative new-comer to AFF so I'm gonna take the bait - what's the light bulb thread?

By the way Tiki is a she...and not a he...and has written some great and detailed posts in the past.

From them I know that Tiki is not blessed with the high salary of some on this forum...and so I think the jibe about her buying $5 T-shirts is most uncalled for.

Like many on this forum she has a genuine passion for travel and she has used this forum to try and increase her travel as much as she can to satisfy that passion.

Thank you, lovetravellingoz! I do sometimes feel out of place here because I am a data entry/accounts clerk and my husband is a labourer, we are budget leisure travellers and I would say that most people on here make more than my husband and I combined. As I said, it is much easier for us to use cheap "disposable" t-shirts for my husband's job. He wears normal clothes travelling to and from work and changes to the cheap t-shirts there. We frequently use Lowes and Best Buy, KMart, Target or whoever has a special on for the cheap work clothes. So these are legitimate expenses for us.

BTW, I am up to 15,000 bonus points with the transactions still at the 19 I have so far since I registered. 6 more and I will have what I need to complete my SPG points goal!

With 4 kids, these are certainly common shopping locations for clothes for my family as well!

My 11yo daughter says Best & Less is her favourite shopping store . Who am I to try to alter her perception.

Now my 16yo son has different perceptions, but at least Jay Jays is not too expensive.

When I know the kids need "disposable" clothes for short-term events like school camps, its time to visit the second hand stores - but they never take Amex.

Does anyone know if the 40K points cap letter will be out in the post 2nite??

How can you say that when it still hasn't been officially confirmed! As i posted earlier, a 40k cap is only 40 transactions! As mentioned before, many people do 80 per month without trying. I am sure AMEX were well aware of this before deciding on the promotion.

Take a chill pill and relax.

Why do you think there will be a cap when others have posted that they have been told there is no cap?

There has been several reports of reps saying there will be a cap and a letter sent this week advising of the new T&C's

Q: Why would a rep make up this for no reason ?
A: They wouldn't, hence letters coming out this week

As for in the post tonight, who knows all that I was told is "this week"

Who cares how much you earn, where you live etc etc, not really sure how that came up, nor do I care.

Your very welcome here of course, now coming from a newbie like me doesn't mean much but you get the idea

15,000 points very nice indeed!

So what wealth of knowlege have you shared in this thread ?
None. I was just grateful that someone posted a fantastic opportunity to earn some extra points. I did not post ways of trying to manipulate the promotion and then make idle threats I could not back up.

All you have done is quoted people and tried to make yourself superior ?
Obviously you have a lot to learn. You have no idea about terms and conditions and how when you sign up to a promotion you abide by the terms and conditions and that these so called terms and conditions can change at any time without them needing to consult you or any of the other people enrolled in the promotion.

For your reference just take a few minutes and search for the Citibank promotion thread on this website a few years back.

Either way I could not care less. But I would be seriously disappointed if someone like you spoilt my chance at earning some extra Amex MR points.

By the way did I mention that I would be completely satisfied if I earned 40,000 extra MR points via this promotion without changing my spending habits. Greed is relative....

Surely they would post it on their website first? I certainly haven't seen it there.

And a 40k cap is very small compared to other promotions they have run in the past. Perhaps they told people that so they would abuse it?

I added bold to what you meant to say :)

Perhaps! Time will tell, if nothign is in anyones letterboxes by the end of the week then the original offer stands!

The T&C's of this promotion were pretty much non-existant, hence this whole thread. It was surprising the lack of T&C's.

So if AMEX is changing the T&C's (still only slightly above rumor status) according to you they don't need to consult us, so why whould they send letters out to advise us of the changes (which is again just rumor).

If changes are made to a promotion, customers do indeed need to be notified.

Has anybody tried to register for this promotion tonight.

I just tried and got this message:
'We're sorry...

This offer has been temporarily suspended due to operational issues. Please try again later. '

I then rang Amex and got a really helpful Australian guy in Melbourne. He said the link at the website site was down due to the large number of people that registered over that last few days. He said it will be up and working within the next day.
When I questioned him as to whether the promo offer was being changed he said no.

I did ask him once I was registered, does my 30 days start from the beginning of each month or from the day I registered.
He said that the 30 day promo would start the day that I registered and not from start of the month.

Does anybody know if this is the case ???

Hi Kazda,

Others have posted about this message but I would recommend phoning Amex and asking them to enrol you in the offer.

I enrolled in one offer then heard of a better one so got on the phone and the op sorted it in under a minute.

Has anybody tried to register for this promotion tonight.

The horse bolted and they locked the stable. Best bet is to call Amex and ask to be put onto the promo, but unless you've been targetted for the promo - they will be reluctant to add you.

The T&C's did state that it was each Calendar Month, so he was definately wrong on that, but maybe he wasn't

So much mis-information from too many reps!

Disapointing

Actually he was right. The promo starts from the day you register not from the beginning of the month - it just resets from the 1st of the month.

If I track back the number of Tran's and the bonuses (posted to Membership Rewards) - Mine goes back to Sept 7th. Then again, it's all too confusing for me to work out, so I'll just wait till Amex taketh away what they thinketh I shouldn't haveth!

My bonus points are calculated from the date that I signed up, based on where they are awrded on the on-line statement.

I have many transactions on the days prior and no promotional awards for them as far as I can tell.

I am enrolled in the 10,000 per 20 transactions. I have been confused by tht T&Cs. The card says 20 per month from 10th September, when I registered it said from 1st September. I had already done 30 transactions since the 1st, so I rang Amex to check.

I was told only transactions from the date you enrol are counted for the promo. So, as I enrolled on the 19th, only transactions from 19th to end September will qualify toward multiples of 20 transactions for Sept. :(

So, regardless which promo you are enrolled in, only transactions after your registration date qualify. Any purchases before registration are not counted.

The T&Cs of this promo are vague to say the least, I would have thought all transactions would count from 1st September, regardless of signup date.

Kazda I am too lazy to retype so the above is what I was told.
