What he is getting is a bonus 0.5 points per $1 spent. Interesting?!

Example:
18/09/2008 RTA $269.00 spend : 336 points, 134 bonus points, total 470
img_clear.gif
- Bonus points on spend 134

I am a bit confused by this - does he normally only get 1 point per $?

I have Plat Chg so it shows as 0.5 bonus points per $ spent on my card anyway.
Code:
Date Description Amount spent Points Bonus Total

22/09/ WOOLWORTHS $42.02 42 21 63

A Qantas Ultimate card earns 1.5 point per dollar.

Yes true, it's all getting a bit confusing - I forgot what the actual promos originally were :)

Clicking the + sign reveals all - good tip :)

I've received 7 x 5000 and 1 x 10000 for a total of 45000.

So it looks like I am getting points from at least 2 of the promos. I still can't explain why ~25 transactions has produced 7 x 5000 when it should have been 5 x 5000 - unless they have in fact counted transactions that occurred before I registered for the promo.

It's all a bit of a mystery :)

It is no mystery - it is clear:

1 x 10K for 20 trans
2 x 5k for 10 trans
5 x 5k for 5 trans

One promo is 5000 points for every 10 transactions (gives 2)
One promo is 5000 points for every 5 transactions (gives 5)

Total 7

Well, I've chalked up 10000 extra points so far. Been a long time since I've been able to garner up a set of points at that rate, so I'm happy.

Looking forward to filling the void up to the cap - if there is one - else it's go go go!

Unlike most of the other people here, I've registered for just one (5k for 10 trans); as my gut feeling is that the greed of others (who have signed up for multiples) is going to come back and bite them in the @$$. Or at least I hope so

perhaps this is all a really clever viral marketing campaign, and we are the stars

After a couple of days of shopping I am started to run out of ideas as to what to buy...

Still the point of promotion according to Luisa was to get us to go out and buy from all the stores that have Amex.

So it is working.

Well considering TV ads can cost a fortune...and then buying of airtime.

Just consider us all "casual? Amex advertising reps at present;)

Stopped inat Wine Lovers yesterday. No Amex...so no purchase!!!

Of course, they could throw big bucks at a TV campaign, or throw big points at us. I know which I prefer.

Interestingly, while we all have become advocates for Amex, we can really only spread the word to people who already have Amex cards...because as I understand it, this promotion is only valid for existing Amex/Membership Rewards members....(happy to stand corrected here if I am wrong!)

Imagine the impact if we could convince non-Amex card holders to join in the fun too!

I wonder if the problem is that Amex have got to a point where there is reluctance to get an Amex due to the perceived lack of acceptance. The focus of this seems to be to encourage use to use Amex accepting establishments, so maybe it is a way of helping Amex to encourage more merchants to sign up.

Now excuse me while I go transfer these points to Qantas where they'll be safely locked away :)

Don't count on it - people have reported on this board before that if there's a reason for it, American Express can reverse points back out of QFF. They're not necessarily "safe" in QFF.

I signed up for all three as progressively the bonuses were better (5k/10 trans means less chance of 19 wasted trans) - I assumed one would supersede the other and so on. I fully expect the points to be reversed - although one could argue that I was allowed to sign up for all three and the T+C I saw did not say that they could not be used in conjunction with other offers... Now I am not advocating starting a class action but to hope for other people to get bitten on the a$$ is pretty bloody rude.

Similarly they could just reverse the points and leave you with a negative balance on your account - which is what I am expecting will happen to mine.

But we are spreading the word to shopkeepers:

*those that have recently signed up would be pleased that they have people coming and using the cards..

* those that do not take it might be starting to wonder why there is a surge of people coming in and asking if they take Amex..and even more so wondering why they are just walking off when in the past yhey would just drag out another card or pay cash.

Now my last point in bold..has to be worth good marketing $$$$ to Amex. The question is how much is it worth to Amex?

Indeed... and also to maybe Amex spend on cards had been dropping alarmingly????

Maybe also existing business had been dropping out of the Amex network? If so then Amex may have been about to become another Diners Club Card where lesse stores with it in turn leads to less people having the card.

Apart from which businesses had it remember that there is a credit criss and it may be that people are spending less as well.

If so this may be Amex's way of suddenly reversing the trend.

If so it has worked with me.

What does this mean? There are seems to be an element of smugness in the comment. The fact that ejb expects points to be reversed does not imply that a cap will be applied.

Obviously things could change going forward but that would again be pure speculation.

Hi,

I was not expecting points reversed due to a cap, as I beleive there will be no cap, but I think I have been granted points under two codes so I think they will pick up on this and reverse the 10000 point bonus.
