Not forgetting, of course, that the offer was clearly shown on their web-site. And any web pages that exist have to be treated as freely available unless they are password protected.

It may not be what they intended, but it is what they did.

It is not just that one could access the page without restriction - it was on the main entry page (for me at least) meaning that when I normally log into Amex it was the thing I saw before actually logging in so at that point it was open to all.

To be fair to Amex. I wouldn't hold it against them if they stop the promotion.

Because this is getting ridiculous. "NO LIMITS" if your spending was normal. We got people who are contemplating putting through matches and bread rolls, drawing up a strategy. It is like a hostile takeover of the program. (Anyone going to get reward points redeem it for cash then buy Amex shares to see how long before you eat the company inside out?).

Think about it? I think the minority has abused the program so now people who want to sign on can't.

Do you have any evidence that anyone has actually abused the promo? Setting aside the ridiculous $1 bread roll comments, yes people have developed a strategy to maximise benefits but for most that just meant switching cash to Amex transactions - exactly the point of the exercise.

What do you think they were expecting? I would guess people were already using Amex for big ticket items - the only option really is to increase lower value transactions.

@ NSWhere I will get back to you later - points noted, comments coming.

Had to laugh when I saw this post over at the Ozbargain website commenting on this promotion - please bear in mind this posted a couple down from where they reproduced the posting of Luisa's message from this forum.

Sounds like a great deal for those who get it. It’s just a shame there is so much verbal diarrhea on the frequentflyer thread

You disagree? :D

well... no points deducted.. no points accrued... i guess today will be the day i find out if AMEX are sticking to their guns and delivering on the promo they sent me..

If they were a company who cared about cust care or CRM they'd be all over this and continuing by grandfathering those who are legit and signed up from the DM they received.. and removing those who were targeted as part of the DM. oooor for those who read about it and signed up with no DM, offer them an alternative program.

Ive got to tell you... the MR system should be smart enough to cross check against their marketing system to validate and accept ONLY those targeted, therefore not create a minefield for the CSOs, their brand and the people who have been eligible but now "gimped" and those who werent being let down.

I received another 5,000 pts this morning bringing my running total to 45,000 pts since I enrolled in the promotion.

Couple of interesting observations:

1) I have not received my full complement of points as has happened in the past. By my calculation, I should have received another 5,000 pts; and
2) I did not receive any points for the transactions that I put through yesterday (even though they have posted).

An ominous sign perhaps?

Same here. No bonus points this morning.

With the way the bonus points post, It's hard for me to work out what's been counted, and what's not been counted - but I think I'm also missing a 5000 pts bonus from this morning. Not worried at the moment. Still < 40K bonus points earnt.

^ have I missed something? where exactly has Amex stated that this promo was only for members who received the postcard?

why then have the Amex call centre been accepting sign ups from any member?

a side note - just because we are talking about a large corporate don't assume that their systems are seemlessly interfaced and talking the same language! quite the opposite really

This Amex disaster has been reminding me of the problems of Hoover in the UK in the 90s. They offered free flights with a vacuum purchase. It was something like people could get a GBP700 flight for a GBP100 purchase.

Hoover free flights promotion - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I've been linking this to the recent Amex/Qantas changes and this was originally devised as a way to motivate people away from the Qantas card to the Amex MR products

Where is Slater and Gordon when you need them?

That's the promo that advised points would post in 8-10 weeks? Rather than immediately?

I have noticed this morning that bonus pts have not been applied to the a/c this morning for the last 5 transactions made. I have already exceed the 40K pts capped. MR points have been posted to my a/c for those transactions but not the bonus points. I wonder if anyone has had the same thing happened to them today??

True, but in practice, the bonus points have been credited within 24 hours of the charge appearing on one's account.

:(Same to me. No more bonus points this morning after the extra 7 transactions in last 2 days all being posted on the MR reward list, but no extra 5,000 bonus points! (I got 15,000 pt total from previous 15 transactions)

 For my QF AMEX, 6 transactions posted this morning BUT no extra points whatsoever - I ahve registered for the MYREWARD on the phone the 2nd day after this thread started and was told to be successful....

Anyone lese got similar expereince today??

Noted but if one is going to push Amex on what they contracted to deliver their response can be an easy - wait 8-10 weeks.

Yesterdays transactions now apprearing on MR My Transactions list.

Another 5,000 points credited including being credited for a <$4 iTunes transaction from a week ago (just posted on MR today)

I got my points posted yesterday but no bonus applied. However all caught up this morning. I have 50,000 points in the 5 for 5 offer. Don't panic, it may well catch up tomorrow.
